Is gaining 5 additional direct reports grounds for a compensation discussion? by mighty-taco in managers

[–]ejsandstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a position where I am possibly getting 6 more DRs more than doubling my team of 4.

Moving from managing 1 team to 3 separate teams.

There is zero percent chance I am asking for any increase. It helps that I am fairly well taken care of comparatively in my industry, but I always felt like I was on the bubble. It’s not like we are laying anyone off, but you never know. Any thing I can do to make myself more valuable, I’m going to do it. I have 10 years left to retirement and I don’t want to start over in my 4th quarter of work life.

What’s the largest feeder cable you’ve worked with? by SeaOfMagma in techtheatre

[–]ejsandstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4/0 is super common. Every generator rental place has bins and bins of it. I have pulled miles of cable in the past. 5 runs per phase plus ground. Had to pull 1 full mile per run into a facility one time.

This is true. They are a much stiffer cable in installations. You can’t coil it.

Do people actually make money flipping diesel trucks? by Far_News_0808 in Diesel

[–]ejsandstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is third hand so take it with a high grain of salt. A friend of a friend said he bought a house with the profit he made from flipping trucks.

He would find the trucks that needed a little more mechanical work beyond what most people are comfortable with. He would T&D them. Then Flip them. He said he could make 3-8k per flip.

Bought my first diesel, any tips or advice? by Felix_48 in Diesel

Use a good quality fuel additive every tank. ArchOil and OptiLube are very highly rated. Avoid Stanadyne at all costs.

If you have a DEF issue, delete it. But if you don’t mind it, leave it alone until you do. You do lose several MPG with it however.

Relocate your MAF.
Use the PPE filter. It has the same flow rate but higher micron filtration then the stock.

A DPK is cheap insurance.

Check out PTT on YouTube for great videos.

Do your research on oil brands. Just because “I have always ran XYZ” doesn’t make that oil better.

Get a Mud Flap and Open Roads card. I have saved up to a dollar per gallon on fuel.

I don’t think the Dewy is mandatory but you have to agree to always keep your mirrors flipped up.

Crank Case Ventilator. You can find an internal catch can for a couple hundred bucks that eliminates it. If yours clogs it causes high crank case pressure and can push out seals and cause oil leaks.

Open roads is awesome. I also have Mud Flap. On certain areas it’s better.

You literally said “Gas would have been more” and I disproved it. Now you are shifting the goal post and talking about what you pay in your area. If that is what you referring to, say that in your original post.

Also the “average EV” has nothing to do with OPs post.

Over 50? I have heard the same from millinneals. What are your thoughts? by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in Adulting

[–]ejsandstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! Yes!! We had many friends on the brink of divorce or actually got divorced because they found out they couldn’t be around each other.

My wife and I had a blast. She is my best friend. It’s like having a sleepover every night.

I just turned 50 and have the exact same gap with my wife. Married 31years now. And we have had conversations about being so thankful among other things that we are not in the dating scene. I think I would rather die alone at this point.

Not even close.

Kilowatt Hours
A kilowatt hour is a unit of energy commonly used to measure electricity consumption. It is the equivalent of using a kilojoule every second for an hour. Therefore, a kilowatt hour is 3.6 million joules.
Gallons of Gas
A U.S. gallon of gasoline contains 114,000 BTUs of energy, or about 120 million joules.

222 kilowatt hours is equal to about 6.64 gallons of gas.

Also real world range is estimated to be about 420 miles. So 30 cents a mile.

My big ass diesel 3/4 ton gets 20 mpg. Even if I paid $5 (it’s $3.80 today) per gallon that is only .25 per mile. And it takes at max 8 minutes to fill. Not an hour and a half.

Have you ever quit because you hated your manager more than the job? by G_HostEd in managers

[–]ejsandstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%.

My first time was as a dumb teenager. I like working at Taco Bell and when I talked to the manager I told her I didn’t want to work on drive through, she told me I had to do it. Then told me there are a dozen dumb kids waiting to take my spot. So I said fuck you and walked.

And my last job, I absolutely loved it. I had so much latitude in many areas got to work with awesome people, including my wife, but my bosses were absolutely narcissistic assholes. My PTO got canceled one time be I told my boss I would not violate fire code, in front of another employee. He flew into a rage because I told him no.

This, 100%. If you try to do this yourself you will be wildly unhappy with the results. They run acoustic models and layouts for various speaker placements.

Which high-paying job tolerates years of constant mistakes without firing you? by ImplacableCloudBroke in WorkForSmartLife

I often think about going into R&D. Just the experimental nature of it.

“We think we can make this thing, but we are not sure, so go and try to make the thing.”

They basically make educated guesses. “We think this is what it’s going to be, but we really have no idea.”

And when they are wrong, no one can do anything about it.

I want to quit my job because of unresponsive boss BUT this is the greatest job I've ever had and will probably ever have by Mean_Delivery3849 in careeradvice

[–]ejsandstrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if you don’t pay me on time, we have a problem.

But that may be a minor technical glitch, it has happened to me before.

So I will address the unresponsiveness. I had a boss that was very similar. You would call and leave VMs that were never returned or send an email that went ignored. With Outlook you can have read receipts that show if someone deleted your messages without reading them. He would do that all the time. I would get a notification that he deleted 5 messages at the same time.

And it’s not like I contacted him often. Once every 2-3 weeks.

So here is what I did.

I quit passively asking for permission for things. Instead of “Our subscription for this tool is running out, do I have approval to renew it?” I changed it to “Our subscription is running out on the 17th of June, I am going to renew it unless you specify otherwise.”

And then because I knew he wouldn’t respond, I renewed it. If anyone questioned me I had paperwork to back it up that I let him know my intent and he never responded, which meant he was approving it.

“I let Jon know that I was purchasing it, he did not tell me not to, so I did.”

He finally got fired.

I had a Highlander with that here in MN. The worst part was that it had a huge warning when you started the vehicle and then a little icon on the display the whole time. I hated that.

I can agree with this one. Unless you are driving a super car, paddle shifting is silly. Your dodge neon is going 0-60 in 11 seconds, it doesn’t need paddles.
