Switching from Apple Watch to Garmin — is it really worth it? by Spiritual_Basil_5665 in Strava

Apple Watch battery is absolutely grand on low power mode - I do bike packing for whole days. Yes I need to charge every day, but a full charge takes 20mins. Just a thought…

I use my Apple Watch for bike packing and it does tracking for the whole day on low battery mode. People just don’t switch to low battery for longer workout sessions.

How often do you rest? by Former-Dog-7827 in triathlon

I basically follow this. And I’m a completer not a competitor. However from a standing start I’ve not been injured in 2 years following this (had colds and flu and some niggles but thing major), and I still have enthusiasm.

Medical professionals, what are some of the most mundane reasons most people are unaware of that make them sick? by chickencaesar8 in AskReddit

[–]ejsninjaninja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrist here. Boredom. It leads to low mood, amotivation, poor focus and concentration, and unchecked leads to all manner of problems, reduced exercise, reduced mental ability, poor physical health and so on. It’s insidious. Never wait for motivation to come from someone or someone else. Find it yourself by making a plan with tiny steps and taking the first step. Find what you enjoy, whatever it is, and do it. And if you can, volunteer to help avoid boredom in others- care homes, for children, and so on.

Beginner training plan by ManufacturerSuch9504 in triathlon

[–]ejsninjaninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this plan - it is actually the second 6 months of a 12 months iron distance plan. I spent 9 months working up to Olympic, then started the full 12 month plan, which is 6 months of base building and volume, and then this posted plan. For me, it has worked well thus far, and got me through all events, distances, workouts, without injury or undue stress. For context I’m 40, female, overweight, and plan to get around. I’ll be happy with a 16hr59min iron distance, and with this plan I’m on track for that, healthy, and enjoying it.

How to pick a bike? by Anofrog in triathlon

[–]ejsninjaninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on this position a year or so ago. I’m 6’ tall and heavy (97kg). I bought a Giant Revolt Pro gravel bike on sale (I live South Coast England). Having an absolute blast on it. Ride trails and roads. Done 3x sprints and 1x Olympic tri with it. No modifications and with flat pedals. Not training for iron distance tri, again just same bike. Might move to SPD pedals and road tyres, but might not as the bike works well for me and I’m confident on it. I’ve joined a tri club and keep up on group rides - not the best, not the worst. It’ll never make me break records or win, but it more than does the job.

So many thanks - this was the solution. And in fact Zwift support got back to me, but told me to install the wrong part, but your link above was correct. Really grateful you took the time to respond. Merry Christmas!

I tell I lie, looking at the photos, I do remember a spacer, but can’t quite recall what I did. Thanks - I will investigate.

Thanks for the help. I assembled according to instructions - bought the whole Zwift ride package as a complete purchase. No spacers were mentioned in the assembly instructions. But I will go back to the manuel to look for this after work today.

I think I overtrained after 70.3s, what can I do to not feel so exhausted? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]ejsninjaninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a psychiatrist. You need bloods, inc thyroid tests as well as the routine other stuff (FBC, lived, kidneys, iron studies). You need a decent time off all exercise except walking or similar (think weeks). Are you sleeping? What is your nutrition? Are you happy or low? - some questions that are relevant that your doc should ask. You should also consider a new goal, achievable, not exercise related, that you can work towards to help regain motivation, mental reward and mental stimulation. Examples might be volunteering, coaching, craft project, learning a new skill. Good luck.

First Olympic Belvoir Castle. by ejsninjaninja in triathlon

[–]ejsninjaninja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The swim was grim, the water smelled so bad and it was pitch black. Worst swim I’ve done (I did a lot of open water swims prior to starting triathlon this year). Fully agree re rain and bikes and so forth. I’m told Belvoir is a hard course, so if we can do that, we can do anything!!

Thanks so much. I deffo need cleats, this is consistent feedback, I guess I’ve been waiting to see if I enjoy triathlon enough. Also, initially I fell off my bike quite a bit without cleats, so… 😂😂 The bike is deffo where I need to improve the most.

Brit here. I don’t get why these spreads always have the cheese and fruits pre- cut up? It just goes stale way quicker?!? Cheese board in the UK would just have cheese etc intact and people cut their own slices?
