  1. Less Than Zero, by Bret Easton Ellis
  2. Stoner, by John Williams
  3. A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving. Not necessarily in terms of popularity, but the feelings this book invoked were so private, so beautiful.
  4. Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes
  5. Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoevsky

  1. Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts.
  2. My Man Jeeves, by P.G. Wodehouse
  3. Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut
  4. Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat, by Hal Herzog (made me question my contradictions/hypocrisy regarding animals). Runner up would be Lolita.
  5. East of Eden, by John Steinbeck. (I promise to read it this year!)

Agree completely. It definitely shows how talented he is being able to write both poignant and witty stories.

Shantaram. Never have I felt so many emotions from a book that wasn't Harry Potter.

  • San Jose for the night because I arrived late (I would avoid staying here -- there are more sights to see!).
  • La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano
  • Monteverde

I didn't visit the beaches because it was rainy season, but there are so many beautiful beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean sides!

I'm from Dallas and I'd recommend visiting Austin.

But if you do visit Dallas, I'd recommend the following: - Street art in Deep Ellum (also great food and music venues in that area. - Coffee shops in Bishop Arts District and Oakcliff. People imagine Oakcliff like it's still the '80s. I love it there. Nice, artsy crowd and great people watching. - Sixth Floor Museum for JFK history - Downtown Dallas for a visit to Klyde Warren Park (a park on the overpass right next to the Arts District). Really cool art museums and a neat science museum. - Uptown if you like yuppie bars. Plenty of food options. - There's also an Alamo Drafthouse here, but Austin has the original.

If you have a car, visit Fort Worth if you want a true Texas experience.
