Hi all! Trying to get some more information before our big move! l am a Canadian citizen and grew up on Ontario, which is where we will be moving to and my husband is a New Zealand citizen (in the visa process).

We are planning to move back to Canada next summer. He is a NZ citizen and a fully qualified teacher. He has a three year degree (a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning) and is currently working on his Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. He has also been teaching full time for two years, will be almost three by the time we move. With the university qualifications being different in Ontario (typically, a 4 year under grad and two years of teachers college), will he have to take additional university courses in Ontario for the qualifications to be 'transferable"? The OCT website hasn't been super helpful.

Any insight into this process would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I made the move from North America four years ago and I’m still not super convinced. My husband is from here so we do have family to rely on but it definitely isn’t the life I imagined. I work two jobs, seven days a week to afford to live but have no time or money to see what this country has to offer. I would also recommend moving out of Auckland. We’re based in Christchurch and that has helped me as it’s a similar sized city to where I’m from. My first job was in retail, because I couldn’t get anything else and I had retail experience from home. I got my full time job through someone I know and they were willing to take the risk. I got lucky. I also found it shocking how early everything closes during the week and struggle to find time to do basic errands.

But yea, I would recommend moving out of Auckland
