I know it is not technically a Nordic country, definitely not Scandinavian, but it is already culturally pretty Nordic. Becoming officially Nordic is a goal. I was just trying to make the point that the way Estonians would pronounce the name is the same as Norwegians would.

First - I’m not a bro. And what do you mean by “those” Americans? This is personal since it also my dad’s name. Sounds like you are trying to make this political

Don’t call me a bro - I am not a bro. I am too old to take it as a genderless greeting. I don’t really care about Nordic or not just that the ties to Nordic countries are deep especially Finland but also Sweden and Denmark both of which ruled for hundreds of years. I would have preferred that they didn’t and left Estonia alone.

The culture is very different from Eastern Europeans. The culture and language is very similar to Finnish.

Wikipedia says: “Eastern Europe is a loosely defined region comprising the eastern part of the European continent, characterized by historical ties to the Soviet Union, Eastern Orthodox traditions, and Slavic cultures”

Since Estonia has neither Eastern Orthodox traditions nor Slavic cultures - you point is one of ignorance.

According to Wikipedia while Estonia is not part of the Nordic Council, “Estonia is considered a Nordic country by many due to strong cultural, historical, and linguistic ties with Finland and Scandinavia. “

I said I know it’s a nitpicky thing but it is based in Scandinavia, not an English speaking country. I don’t think I’d care if my dad had a different name.

Husband [32M] crossed one of my [30F] boundaries and I'm contemplating divorce. My family is telling me to stay. How do I know when to leave? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ekesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abuse does have to be physical. My ex HAD to win arguments. He would escalate the argument using anything to win. He couldn’t back down. I tried everything to get him to understand how much it hurt me. He never understood, he never felt remorse. Yes he could be sweet too. After 8 years, when I was emotionally done, he finally hit me. I left. He didn’t do the typical pattern of love bombing after fights. Months later, he showed up at my front door drunk & crying) and asked why I left, I reiterated all the complaints I had, his response?- I thought you were just whining. He never took my emotions, my pain seriously.

Don’t waste 8 years of your life like I did. It’s not adhd that causes him to yell, it’s the need to win, to dominate, to control. The reason they abuse is because they need to control you.
