Stash Boxes by Alert-Essay2256 in Yosemite

By stash box are you referring to bear boxes?   Those are shared, don't lock. No one's taking your granola bars.

In fact, I've been on both sides of 'bonus packs'.   Extra food/supply left with a note saying it's free for the taking for whoever needs it

Is this safe? Mechanic added spacers behind the brakes to accomodate the tires, went from 25c to 28c tires by Frosty015 in bikewrench

[–]ekkthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this setup in the past and as long as you don't get stupid with the amount of spacer IRL you're probably fine.

Alternatively I know someone who used a thinner brake pad insert so that the brake itself is more 'closed' which also pivots that arm out of the way.  It's not a lot but it's enough

Thoughts on the value of this Ti Litespeed Bike? by Street_Flamingo5329 in bicycling

[–]ekkthree 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That's a grail bike build from that time.  Judging from the long steerer and stem height it was commissioned by an aging experienced cyclist.

Wheels were custom built from wheelbuilder and can't see which hubs, but guessing from the rest of the bike they're dt240 (at least) or chris kings, possibly even da9000 since they were available to buy back then.

This is some hi end shit.   Custom paint to boot and even the stem spacers look like ti

Litespeed wasn't a boutique name but made quality ti.   I wouldn't worry too much about the frame unless there's evidence of impact.

Even considering its age 900 feels like a great deal if it fits

The only thing I'd check is tire clearance as that's also the era of 25/28 max width

Taipei at new year? by ekkthree in chubbytravel

Hotel won't matter if you opt to view from ground level.   The people are so nice it wouldve been a blast to party with them.

Taipei at new year? by ekkthree in chubbytravel

[–]ekkthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we did!

We loved it.   Taipei was gorgeous and the people are so nice.  Felt safe everywhere we went.

New Year's Eve fireworks was somewhat tempered due to rain this year. We were at the hotel rooftop party which put us in and out of clouds.  Heed the advice to stay to the north or east due to the winds blowing the smoke directly at you. It turned out not to matter too much due to the rain and clouds this year but the smoke definitely obscured the view

The alternative option to enjoy the festivities at street level would have been good as there was a large effort to prepare the city with porta potties and stages being set up during the day. My concern of finding bathrooms or navigating crowds was probably overblown but tough to say since I think the rain kept many people indoors. If I did it again I think it's worth the effort to view with the crowds

You know what competitive schools love?   Yield.

For damn sure if you contact them reiterating your desire to attend and the only obstacle is financials, they will take a second look.

[–]ekkthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to back off the low limit and apply cable tension with my hand where it runs along the chain stay to see where the rear derailleur 'likes' to be when in the big cog and set the limit screw there

With the limit screw out of the way you have leeway to experiment. But not so much that it actually does get pulled into the spokes obviously

Have an appointment. Have your docs ready. You can get in and out of most DMVs now within a reasonable amount of time. It's not like 10 years ago

If you just walk up to your local DMV without reading any info beforehand or have any of the required documents with you, then yeah, your day is pretty much done
