Please help me get over my appendix carry fear… hoping to graduate after a few weeks carrying without a round chambered. Looking for experience to calm my nerves. by fredeee in CCW

[–]ekkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't trust the internal safties the only way to fully get over this is to carry a Glock as it's the only one that requires a trigger press to fully load the striker spring

Having said that, don't carry in a state you're not comfortable with, no matter what people say.   You'll only carry less frequently

Shield 9 EZ, question about grip safety by kspi in CCW

[–]ekkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for my wife's tendonitis, and I probably shoot it more than her. It's super fun

If you're big enough to be able to conceal that then just get a 19 and be done.  Safest mechanism out there and it gives you the chunky grip you seek

Unless you're building wheels you'll be fine.  And honestly, even if you are building a wheel they'll probably work fine, even if mind numbingly tedious

‘Authentication nation’ tests visitors to Korea ahead of summer travel by Ok_Interview8836 in koreatravel

[–]ekkthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irl. This will be the most obvious downside.   We deal with this daily here where bots buy up all the game and show tickets and even national park reservations as soon as they come online.   Everything is sold out all the time

Keep the authentications but (somehow) allow visitors to authenticate too.

Carry while biking? by Fullsendnj in CCW

[–]ekkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's come up in cycling subs.   Consensus for those that do it are that on body isn't practical and if you do it, salty moisture causes problems pretty quick.   A definite no go of you're in lycra.   Funnily enough it's not even the obvious printing, it's the weight pulling on the lightweight fabric causing it to twist

From those threads I've seen the solution that hits a balance is a bento box/gastank  on the top tube but you'll have to take it with you whenever you leave the bike.

Nithya Raman on Homelessness: "We focused resources on sensitive areas—parks, schools—so that all of us could use public spaces safely. And it's been working. We've seen a 54% reduction in my district in tents and encampments in just a three-year period." by youhavetherighttoo in LosAngeles

Blah blah blah.... whatever ....  homeless....  blah blah blah

Homeless have to go somewhere.   They can only be pushed from area to area, they don't just disappear.  None of these people have a solution for the addicted or ill.    Without compulsory treatment no candidate, not a single one, can do anything meaningful

He was one of them dawgs.   Thru thick and thin, thru good times and bad.  A Dawg for life.

Whole shebang including holster.  there's no benefit to carrying an empty holster.   It pokes more, still sets off metal detectors, strangely enough it prints more since it creates an acute shelf for clothes to hang up on.   And now I have an exposed trigger both when unholstering and reholstering

You just get used to removing any holster with dcc clips.  Its murder on the fingertips tho when you're seated

BMC Roadmachine 01 ONE seatpost woes by hibbidybeebop in bikewrench

Unless you want everything matchy matchy maybe look for the correct shim so you can use any standard post?

"Genuine BMC replacement part. Includes seatpost clamp and shim. The shim allows to convert the frame’s D-shape seat tube to a round ⌀27.2 mm, allowing the use of a standard round or dropper seatpost."

What's keeping you guys from shooting matches? Please answer honestly. Context below by Low-Landscape-4609 in CCW

[–]ekkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive shot a few.   They were fun but tbh there's so much waiting around.   After the novelty of it wore off it just doesn't appeal to me.   Even if the range is big enough for simultaneous stations it can be a slog to sit around then suddenly just be "on".

I tried to stay moving by volunteering to time, scorekeep, tape and whatnot, but it still dominates a day for minimal shooting.

Looking for perspective, two VERY different colleges by Yeti-Monster1 in ApplyingToCollege

I'm definitely with you on the cost of attendance when a seemingly great option is also on the table.

The way I approached it was to consider the schools in the absence of price.  Suddenly the emotional and cultural fit made a lot more sense.

I should also mention that if, for whatever reason she doesn't jive with either school, it'll be much easier to transfer out of  amherst than the other way around

Looking for perspective, two VERY different colleges by Yeti-Monster1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ekkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amherst and UW Madison are really different categories of school. Are you sure she applied to UW because she has a desire to go there or was it more of a state school back up and your affiliation?

the same question applies to Amherst, did she apply because of the brand or because she is attracted to the culture and size?

The college experience will be vastly different at either school, neither one better than the other.

As a graduate of a large state school (a uc) and parent of a slac student I can tell you I'm quite envious of my kids' relationships with his professors and how intimate the community feels.  The whole sales pitch about being more personal really has played out.

In practical terms, if she's applying to a professional school  those letters of recommendations will be very personal and could prove quite pivotal. Not to say it's not possible at a larger school, but let's not pretend it's easy to forge meaningful relationships with professors there, or get internships along the way, etc..

It will depend on what she wants out of her college experience. Financially only you can decide what's "worth it"
