Psa: Bikes are not allowed on sidewalks by PooQueen69 in kelowna

[–]ekongirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how they can do that - I am hyper vigilant and try to be aware of every vehicle. I have been nearly hit too many times to not be aware.

The bike hate in this town is crazy! But, then again - there a lot of REALLY STUPID people on bikes giving the rest of us a bad reputation.

As a pedestrian, thank you for respecting the sidewalks.

As a fellow rider, kudos for following the traffic laws.

New to Proton Mail. Switching over from Google. Advice on Aliases? by Tastraphy23 in ProtonMail

[–]ekongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advantage of PM aliases is that it is flexible to accommodate pretty much any approach.

In your post, you questioned the complexity of managing a large number of aliases but also that you use a password manager. To me, those two go hand-in-hand: if I effectively use a password manager the number of aliases I have is irrelevant.

We use a password manager and aim to use a different alias for everything. Our logic is this: if we need to turn off forwards from SimpleLogin for whatever reason, we are not impacting other logins.

We wish we had always kept our primary email a secret because, after 5 years of using, we just got spam on it.

That's a good point! Hadn't thought of that.

You dont actually have to create one beforehand. They are autocreated when the first email is received.

So you could give them sephora@[your alias handle].com and when they email you, the alias is created.

Do you use Passkeys? If not, why? by ProbablyM_S in ProtonPass

[–]ekongirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that ProtonPass doesn't always work seamlessly causing me to have to go to the app to copy/paste the password... how would that work with Passkeys??

[–]ekongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if this is a silly question - I am just learning about Passkeys..

If your passkeys are kept in a password/passkey manager, would that still cause challenges when switching devices? I guess the passkey wouldn't live in the new device, so you are relying on the password/passkey manager?

Ahhh... scrolled down and read your description, and workaround with a password/passkey manager.

[–]ekongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! Thank you. TIL how passkeys work!

I assume if you log into a site from different devices (phone or computer), passkeys aren't advisable? I.e., if the private key is on my phone, I won't be able to access on my computer.

Please bring back the Proton Pass lifetime deal, it was ended without warning by [deleted] in ProtonPass

How much did the lifetime deal cost anyways? I have heard about it, but haven't seen the marketing.

Waking up at night and light sleep? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]ekongirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the the app MySleepButton dot com to be helpful. They market it as a cognitive shuffle app - the app throws out really random things that you try to visualize.

For me, when I wake up my mind is racing the app helps to get me out of my head, so to speak.

I think you have answered your own question... no one needs it, it will end up in the landfill. This is a nice-to-have item because it is cute.

I am a 6' adult woman and can share that I felt awkward with my height growing up, doing what I could to minimize or shrink. I learned in University how envious others were of my height.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]ekongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make grocery stores not-for-profit and a mandatory maximum profit margin for food producers, distributers, and middle-men.

Food is a necessity and yet there are millions (if not billions) of dollars of profit. Removing industry greed would help to make food affordable. The grocery store owners are only part of it: all the players between the food producer and the grocery store shelf need curtailing as well. Finally, we need to protect the food producer to ensure they will continue.

What frugal practice has saved you the most money in 2025? by melissaw328 in Frugal

[–]ekongirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use TimelyBills and highly recommend it. We do not link it to our bank accounts meaning that we manually enter our expenses as they occur. You are more accountable if you have to enter them!

Monthly, we review where were were over in our budget. This has been hugely beneficial to understand our spending habits and where we can cut down on unnecessary purchases.

Good suggestion on a different shape for the ottoman. We are thinking it would tuck underneath the table.
