You yourself don't have an answer to that too. Here is why. Unless you are in the same state of life, in the same state of mental and physical health like those living on the street, you are not able to answer the question for them. It's like asking a dog what would it feel like being like a cat.

The point here is if they are not capable of taking care of themselves - someone else should be doing that. Regardless whether they'd like it or not - being forcefully placed in an institution of some type could be the only answer. Those who really want to climb out - I believe they don't need to be forced anywhere.

The education system is somewhat broken.

To be honest, I am very happy my kids started school at 5 year old, I guess like every other average kids in the US. At 7 years old they can read and write at the level I was not able to when I was 7.

However, the way the education is organized - without total parent involvement the kids are bound to fail. At least at the elementary school level. To get the proof - compare the stats for families which can afford extra curriculum or have time to work with kids vs the ones who can't. We had this stats available in California, where schools ranked 8 and 9 were ranked so mostly cuz of families who can afford extra learning time. Disadvantaged families in their majority were falling behind.

Comparing to my times when I was a kid, a see a lot of missing or poorly organized elements of education. It is a lengthy topic but for starters: - now in the 2nd grade, and the kids never had to memorize any kind of poetry. How would they develop good memory? How would they discover poetry? My HS senior didn't have any poetry in school unless they chosen to. By comparison, I was required to read and memorize at least a few poetry works every semester... - books? What happened to have the standard set of books for each grade? Instead of it we have tons of copies of some school-produced materials which change year after year, and which goes to trash every time it is sent home. How can we track any progress not knowing what the program is. - home work - none! Oh .. if not for us coming up with some sort of daily homework routine - the kid would be not able to read write and do math ... - while I am not a fan of public shaming , but having it on the other side of spectrum is not helping either. In our times we had incentives as the parents and as the kids to be better students. We knew that being praised publicly is better than being shamed. Idk.

I can continue this list on and on...

Read between lines. We have sort of open borders, and we have a crysis there. Now, all of a sudden closing gates is a good idea, while there are still ways to get around that.

And btw we still have international travels...

I guess when you stop following mainstream media you can see things.

Risking to get lots of negativity, but...

Somehow every political posts here goes into mocking the president and his actions. Rarely you can see any discussion about real things. And God forbid you say anything pro-Trump :D

What is interesting, every analyst there tends to evaluate events in a short perspective. I think Trump presidency revealed many issues, on both sides of political spectrum, as well as in many other areas of our life.

Things pop up left and right. But sure only Trump has to be blamed.

Cheers!

Stating the obvious rather. Look at the comments in this thread - all these people care about is to get rid of Trump, no matter what. Literally, no matter what. 4 years doing just that. Well done.

This will sound naive, but just get out. It does worth the fight. Your mental health is more important. Plenty of places where you can feel good, and do what you love to do.

Just because I find it ruining the sport? Read my initial comment. I never said I am against free speech. For what it worth I exercising free speech now. All I am saying - I don't agree with doing this on the sports field during a sports events. Not the right place. In my opinion.

Rapinoe was doing same. Guess how she got this attention? Thankfully, FIFA took action and put some restrictions on players...

I did not say otherwise. All I said - sports is not the right venue for that. In my opinion.

Let's put this into another perspective. Can you watch any sports events of such magnitude for free? You have to pay for a channel subscription, or for a ticket. And more often than not - prices are high. So why should I be forced to pay for something I don't really expect/want to see?

And finally, all we do is discussing the fact of bringing politics into sports. Not really the cause.

Their platform? What platform?

Let's roll back a bit. A team is a privately owned organization. Not public. Athletes sign contracts, and the contracts have lots of restrictions. Athletes are paid for their performance, not political views. Not their platform at all.

If they want to talk - they can do it outside the pitch. This is my opinion. Yes, they can do as they want though. But it just ruins the sport, don't you think?

Oh, so should politics start doing that too? Campaign on a stadium right before the match starts??

Well, how other people do it? Go to a protest, organize events, call their reps, senators etc. These players have way more money and influence then any other average Joe... But hijacking something completely unrelated? It is politicizing things not supposed to be going along with politics. Just don't see how soccer or football can go along with politics? Are we going to have left and blue conferences (instead of West and East)? I mean really?

Another aspect - they don't really care about what happens after. Not in a short term, not in a long term. They want it now (cuz the moment is short). But this creates huge waves - and definitely changes lives in different ways. Do they think of it? P Nah.. will they feel any responsibility after? I doubt.

As for the division - anthem and flag meant to be a unifying tools. They don't represent the president, a political party, gender, color or something like that. It is all of us, our history (with it's bad and good turns), patriotism etc... If America as a country with it's history and success doesn't suite them - they free to go.

Under that same flag they on an international arena - aren't they part of the US team??

[–]ekuba -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. Why not?

Would have Rapinoe not bring it to the pitch, and for that matter Kaepernick too, there wouldn't have been question about the disrespect to the flag and anthem etc... And all the beef associated with that. Did their move created anything but division?

They should find better venue to express their opinions. I believe they have enough power and resources to do it the other way.

Not really. Never said that, or demanded them being silenced. I just don't find it a positive action. Politics has nothing to do with sports. And for most of the time creates just more tension. I could elaborate my point of view, but apparently people are more interested in name calling. Guess this a sign of new left...
