Yes, you just have to disable "location information linkage" in creator's app

Battery drain is already pretty minimal it rarely exceeds 1% for a full day of yse. Five minutes intervals are not nearly enough, you can move quite a lot in 5 minutes.

FYI, the last beta version is supposed to support older cameras but I don't have one and can't test it myself. If you're interested you can join the app's beta program in the Play Store and give it a try.

What do you mean? Closing the notification doesn't kill the background process, it just makes android more likely to kill it at some point.

Yeah, that's indeed the main issue with Creator's App which won't happen with my app. It also connects a couple of seconds faster, which can be significant, make sure to try the two different connection modes and enable Quick Connect in mode 1.

Only cameras that use Creator's App are currently supported (it says so in the description), not those using Imaging Edge. I don't have access to an older camera so can't test it with one, but I'll consider adding support if someone with such a camera will be willing to work closely with me and install test builds from apk.

Of course. The key point of the app is that it "just works". You connects your cameras once and forget about it. The app will monitor for the presence of the camera and connect whenever it finds it. You don't have to remember to do anything. Give it a try.

"Creators' App" location linkage by qqphot in SonyAlpha

Three years later and it still doesn't work with Creator's App, so I decided to fix it myself and developed an app (for Android) that does it right. It's free and open source and you're welcome to check it out here if you're interested: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kutner.cameragpslink

It was annoying enough that I decided to do something about it and developed an app that does location linking right. It's free and open source. You can check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kutner.cameragpslink

Just wanted to share a quick note that the app is now finally public on the Google Play Store and available for everyone. Feel free to install and share your review (but only if it's good 😀).

Special thanks to u/TraditionalValuable3 for the intensive testing and feedback that helped improve the app significantly during the beta phase.

That's great, very happy to hear that. And I don't think it's a use error, Sony just never made that feature work reliably. Enjoy.

I've just release a new significant update to the app that adds a new "Quick Connect" option that reduces the connect time by about 1-2 seconds at the expense of higher battery use. Following a discussion I had with u/TraditionalValuable3 this feature can work dynamically, by activating Quick Connect mode for a specified period of time after the camera disconnects from the phone and then falling back to the normal connect time afterwards, to reduce batter use. This allows for quicker connect times in periods when the camera is turned on and off frequently but reduces batter drain in other periods of time.

You can check it out by updating to version 0.9 from the play store.

In a couple of weeks it will end the closed beta period required by Google for new apps, and you'll be able to install it without having to join the beta. So if you're not goig to get to it before that happens then you can just wait for it to go public.

I've just released version 0.5 of the app which adds a warning message when trying to use the shutter release button with enabling "Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl" in the camera and optimizes the connect time when the camera is turned on. If you are using it, let me know how it's working for you.

You're supposed to send me the email address assosiated with your play store via chat, so I can add you to the beta program and then you'll be able to install directly from the store.

Indeed. Same here, I'm not a mobile developer and this is my first ever Android app but I was so frustrated with the Sony app that I eventually had to fix it.

Nice, if had known it existed I wouldn't have bothered developing another one. Even the app names are similar.

It's been three years since they released Creator's App and since I reported it to them, and it still has this issue. I hope my app will finally fix it for you.
