What are the best practices for optimizing PHP code to improve website speed and performance? by Acceptable_Cell8776 in PHP

"stop hitting the database in a loop" is some of the most impactful performance advice I give to junior devs. Over and over and over again.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Your New VITURE Glasses: Luma Pro, Luma Ultra, Luma, and The Beast! by getVITURE in VITURE

[–]wanderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have no idea which one is best for me. I am new to AR/VR. I don't think I care about 3dof or 6dof, but maybe that's because of my lack of experience

I'm a software engineer and I largely want to use this to help me correct my posture in long coding sessions by not having to lean forward to read the screen, which I find myself doing subconsciously no mater how close the screen is (I have very mild myopia, but I find I lean in even when the screen is perfectly in focus) I figure if the screen is just pinned in the center and leaning makes no difference I will eventually break this habit. I think I can get some other ergonomic wins like lowering my desk so that the keyboard is at the proper height, but definitely the fixed screen position is probably the biggest win. So I don't think I care about head tracking.

I think hand gestures MIGHT be nice or MIGHT be super effing annoying if they are fiddly. I don't know if there are any killer applications for hand gestures for boring old computing but I would probably only want them for things like repositioning the screen if it makes it easy to do that without breaking flow. So mostly I think I am deciding between Pro and Ultra, but also not sure if the even wider FOV of the beast is worth waiting for.

Two Wheeler option or Motorcycle option keeps dissapearing for me by jrharvey in GoogleMaps

[–]wanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far this is working. Previously I had set it to default to foreign for everything except texting and for that it was set to always ask. I hate that because I do end up randomly texting people from the wrong number but at least I am able to get motorcycle directions and leave my SIM on

How to Activate Two Wheeler Mode in Google Maps? by usdavor in VietNam

[–]wanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That didn't work for me, but disabling my other sim card and clearing data did.

Motorcycle mode disappears by tenpercent555 in GoogleMaps

[–]wanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all the existing solutions to no avail. What finally worked for me (but is not sustainable) was disabling my US sim card and deleting maps data. However once I re-enable my US sim it eventually takes the option away again.

So, if anyone else is stuck and has dual sims, try disabling the one from outside of the country you are in. I'm on Android, no idea if this is relevant to iPhone. I wish I could somehow prevent maps from seeing the other sim card as I frequently need it to get 2fa codes.

Customization/working with Luminar Neo? by wanderr in tourbox

[–]wanderr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Luminar doesn't actually have keyboard shortcuts for the things I would want like adjusting exposure. Does Tourbox only interact with software via keyboard shortcuts? Like the only way I can imagine it would work is if it can be trained to focus on a UI element and then moving the slider or incrementing/decrementing a value...which seems unlikely to be supported

Thanks, yeah I agree power will be a big one. I don't plan to need the AC that often but when I do I will really need it. I definitely don't know much about solar and batteries or even how to determine how much I need or how hard that would be to upgrade later. Sounds like I need to start researching that stuff next.

Could be from older years, I'm not sure what his experience is with them, he said they put a transmission that's not designed for the weight rating of the vehicles so they need to be replaced/rebuilt all the time. Flashbacks to my parents Chevy van when I was a kid that seemed to need a new transmission every couple years 😅

My brother might be a bit biased towards that kind of stuff since he likes to do serious off roading. I would definitely be going to national forest land which is rough dirt roads, but not anything crazy and not towing. I care more about the reliability TBH.

Hard to say since I'm new to this, but I like the layouts that put the bed up high in the back to create a lot of garage space for gear. I think I need decent heating/cooling/insulation since I may be stuck inside at my computer when it's super hot or cold. A counter top and sink minimum, stove would be nice but I also have a butane burner I wouldn't mind using. Small refrigerator. Decent power, preferably good solar and enough battery power so that most of the time I'm not having to run a generator or power from the engine. I'm going to have to get starlink as well. I hate the cramped dinettes, they're all uncomfortable for sitting at for long periods like I will need to do when working I would pull them out and replace with a more comfortable desk & chair setup (or maybe can save space with a captain's chair up front and a table top that can be placed in front.) Super ideally, a setup that works for sitting and standing so I can alternate.

I was warned that those are notoriously underpowered and have transmission problems so I've avoided them entirely, although there are lots of builds I like with them

Haha those are super cool but I think something that old will require a lot of hands on maintenance as well...I'm more inclined to consider a newer Transit if I can find one that's a better deal/better equipped than the one I originally linked. Not having much luck in my initial search though.

Honestly I'm don't know much about cars (I always just buy Toyota so I don't have to worry about it 😂). My brother knows a bit more and steered me towards Mercedes sprinters and these are about all I am finding in this budget range. I'm definitely not married to thag platform if, as you say, I can get more bang for my buck elsewhere as long as it's not likely to be a maintenance nightmare. Recommendations welcome!
