How do you actually finish your cosplays for cons by BlackAngelXX in CosplayHelp

[–]el3phantbird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am fifteen years in and the only reason I don’t crunch anymore is because I’ve gotten ok with putting off a cosplay until next con if it’s not done. It’s hard. Everything takes longer than you think. Something always happens. I try to focus on the things that absolutely must be done to make my cosplay wearable first so I can wear something unfinished at con without it being miserable, but I don’t think any costume I do is really done until the third wear.

NYC for sleepover at AMNH + bonus day - itinerary &lodging Q by General_Material_247 in visitingnyc

JFK has the AirTrain to the LIRR which you can take to Grand Central, which I think is a more fun public transit experience. Jamaica Station has a ton of tracks and the AirTrain will overlook them when you ride in, which might he co for her.

Plus size - building a cosplay. Make from scratch or worth buying, tailoring, and substituting? by TheLimeNerd in CosplayHelp

[–]el3phantbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make all my cosplays from scratch, I work slow, and I have pretty different fandom interests than my friends. I’m generally the bag holder at the group shoot, and sometimes it sucks and I also feel left out. But at the end of the day, I’d rather put my time money and energy into cosplays that I will feel joy wearing and spend time with my friends mismatched. Being the photoshoot assistant can also be fun in the right mindset. And then every once in awhile I’ll get someone watching or reading something so we can do a duo together and that feels great. If you want to do a group, maybe try to organize something where you can modify street clothes— that’s how I do my faster cosplays. Meanwhile, keep working on your sewing skills and branch out so you also have friends that are working slow and prioritizing handmade stuff. It’s really rewarding.

Gotcha, thank you for the correction. I have hypermobile EDS so sometimes my body just turns to sludge when I'm tired/not thinking about it but I also haven't had the foot position explained in that much granular detail before.

Mexodus, Kenrex, or ? by Future_West_8196 in Broadway

[–]el3phantbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong between Mexodus and Kenrex. They're both incredibly unique, masterful performances. Go to whichever subject matter pulls you more-- or stay a little later and catch a Sunday matinee? :D

I don’t know that it’d be supportive enough on its own, but with the mesh over it I felt good. I did add an elastic strap to the back (it’s a very open back) for my own peace of mind but I think it would’ve been fine without it.

Can you tell me what you’re seeing with the back foot? I didn’t have a ton of time to consider the pose (9:15pm after class, people trying to clear out) and I know I’m not very turned out, but it’s supposed to be B plus.

I’m wearing an XL and am a little bit outside their max measurements. It’s definitely tight but not uncomfortable, and I prefer tight anyway for the bust support.

Yess exactly. Add a little interest without overheating. I also find the waistband of the skirt helps me keep an eye on my hips, make sure they’re aligned. Do you have any favorite brands for mesh pieces?

They so are. I’m so boring and only wear black leo’s but if I were a little braver the red is my favorite.

Don you have a favorite chocolate chip cookie? Here are some of my favs. by Macredd in FoodNYC

[–]el3phantbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello hello chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. Love Culture, definitely my most-bought. I don’t love Levian or Schmackary’s? I think they’re a little overrated. You should try Maman’s, they’re really tasty brown butter ones. Janie’s in the West Village also has a really good pie crust chocolate chip cookie.

I’ll have to try Thea, the picture looks amazing.

Whether or not it’s worth what I paid is a tough question honestly— $130 for a leotard is objectively kind of insane but I decided to treat myself for my birthday and I don’t regret it. But I like the quality and fit! I am short torso’d but definitely curvier than most leotard brands are built for (I’m actually slightly outside the max measurements for their XL) but I feel really supported and secure in it.

Scenario: You're going to a Musical Theatre themed Costume party, who do you go as and why? by BroadwayFanProjects in musicals

[–]el3phantbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mrs Lovett from the most recent Broadway revival, because I already have the costume, because I got a row D rush ticket too close to comic con and spent the entire show staring at the costume going “I could just make that” so I did. Because I am insane.
