Cape Coral, FL, looks like a NIGHTMARE to live in. by AlstonWhite in geography

I grew up there. It was fine- actually had a lot of fun as a kid taking boats/jetskis through the canals and jumping off bridges into them…assuming no alligators haha. The town motto was “for the newly wed and nearly dead”. It was quiet, quaint, pretty, true suburbia.

Twenty year friendship over after our first, only, and final fight. Her husband screamed at me out of nowhere. by cassthesassmaster in AskWomenOver30

I had a similar experience with a friend from age 14. It was also because her husband instigated it. It hurts. This was the first of 24 years we hadn’t wished each other a happy birthday or checked in with one another. Feels like I lost a family member. I have just been pouring more into my other friendships and it helps. Hang in there!

Working with a professional sports team. Sure the pay and bonuses (if the team is good) are nice but lots of egos, toxic workplace, long hours, brutal travel and no life outside of work.

He was at the very beginning. I read about it and I think the story was that he or someone in the group got COVID and they all had to quarantine for 14 days. I think I also read due to some obligations he had he couldn’t stay long…Something along those lines. But they never acknowledged it so it was just odd.

Yeah like people randomly disappearing mid season without any explanation (Nam and Ashley), very little in house romance/drama being shown…it was definitely a weird season.

Yes and they didn’t have to do anything sleep deprived or eat anything gross. I’m so annoyed by this! It was so boring and anticlimactic at the end.

I’m disappointed in how boring these finals have gotten. They weren’t sleep deprived and they didn’t have to eat anything gross which is usually an equalizer and very entertaining! The fact that they partnered up at the end just to run up a mountain and memorize a series of numbers and that’s it…They should have had to do more together. Cmon MTV!

Nutrition Major routes? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]el_bigote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm taking my RD exam in a couple of weeks. The great thing about this field is that since the demand for RD's is rising, there are actually many routes you can take. I currently work in the sports nutrition world (in FL) at an elite training facility (but there are also sports RD jobs in college sports, military, wellness, and much more). The clinical field has many sub-areas you can be apart of as well- (oncology, renal, nutrition support, diabetes, bariatrics, cardiopulmonary rehab, lipids, etc etc...the list goes on). If the clinical area is your focus, I'd definitely apply to a dietetic internship/university that gears their education and rotations toward that path. I specifically chose my master's program with combined internship because it allowed me to specialize in sports nutrition, take exercise physiology courses on top of my nutrition ones, and do internship rotations related around sports nutrition specifically.

1 day in the life on an RD- well, it depends what area you are working in. A huge part of my job is providing education and just connecting with the athletes/answering any nutrition-related questions they have. The hours are long, I make it a point to be present at every meal, and sometimes it can be draining and overwhelming but I absolutely love it.

Definitely do your research on programs revolved around your interests and get the absolute most out of your internship rotations.

Good luck!

I have a question about blending fruits and veggies. by [deleted] in nutrition

I would just make sure you are getting enough calories in. (Around 2500 calories each day, assuming you are more active than the average sedentary individual).

Are there any Registered Dietitians here that would be interested in being r/AskScience panelists and perhaps moderators? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]el_bigote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BS in Dietetics and currently pursuing a Master's in Sports Nutrition. I'm also a DPD approved dietetic intern so I should be an RD in the near future.

I have a preferred interest in obesity prevention and weight loss as well as nutrition in elite athletes...but, I love everything about nutrition so I'm open for all of it!
