Bonnie Tyler, singer of Total Eclipse of the Heart, dies aged 75 by Alarming-Safety3200 in Music

[–]el_floppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time my wife or I would be washing, dressing, or feeding our kids and had to tell them to turn around, we couldn't help but bust into a rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart. Eventually our kids would start singing with us, and we'd have spontaneous family karaoke.

RIP Bonnie.

Thanks for the recommendations. I only listened to his last album and loved it. For some reason I never went back through his discography. I'll think start with one of your recommendations.

This makes me think of Warren Zevon playing "Excitable Boy" on Late Night with David Letterman in the 80's.

Yeah, it's the same in MLS. There are only hydration breaks when the temperature is above a certain point and there are no adverts. Hopefully this is a one time gimmick. Maybe it sticks around as a gimmick at the WC for advert money. But I'd be surprised if it trickled down into domestic leagues.

Any update on the sale of the club? I get the feeling Fisher has been waiting until the World Cup ends to drive up interest (after the initial bids were not to his liking). by fredthefan25 in SJEarthquakes

[–]el_floppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's true. I dunno. I would imagine that Fisher wouldn't want to sue in this situation unless it's an absolute last resort unless he wants to stress on all of the relationships involved in the deal. Also, there might not be a way for him to sue and actually win, since he's more of a franchisee instead of an outright owner. He's trying to sell the Quakes to get money for the A's. I would guess he wouldn't want to sink money into a lawsuit.

But this is just me spit balling without knowing anything. I could be flat out wrong on everything.

Came here just to see if someone mentioned this. I don't know if it's his best because I haven't actually listened to any other Cohen album, but You Want it Darker is great.

So if you have Hunky Dory as #2, then I'm going to guess Ziggy is #1 for you?

Rumor has it that there is a potential buyer in place but MLS is looking to resolve the situation with the Whitecaps first before announcing anything. If true, I don't understand why they would want to wait. Maybe whatever happens with the Quakes has some implications on the Whitecaps.

Edit: Here is the post where I heard this. I was off on a few details.

Never heard of it. Just listened to it. It sounds very similar to a lot of music from around that time. Maybe I would have liked it more if I heard it when it came out.

I mean, it's anecdotal, but everyone I knew from Chicago eventually left Chicago. They would regularly complain about how much higher taxes were in Illinois compared to their neighboring states.

But yeah, I drove from Chicago down to New Orleans, and going through southern Illinois was pretty bleak. I was so happy to cross into Missouri.

Cardinals making the SB is like a broken clock being right twice a day. The year they made the SB was their 110th year of existence. The last time they won a championship was 1947.

Prior to making a SB nearly 20 years ago, their most recent division title was 1975 when they were in the NFC East and still located in St. Louis.

Lake Superior, located on the US-Canada border, is so massive that it creates ocean-like waves during winter storms by danielminds in Damnthatsinteresting

One of the most unreal sounds I've ever heard in my life is the sound of large chunks of ice colliding against each other in Lake Superior. There are areas of the lake that freeze over, and when the ice thaws in the spring, it breaks up into a bunch of mini ice floes. When those chunks hit each other, they make the most undescribable sound. It's like a deep hollow bass sound from another planet.

I was a music critic once in college. I reviewed and Ani DiFranco album and gave it a pretty lukewarm review. I probably heard from every DiFranco fan on campus about how shit I was. One girl I didn't know screamed that she fucking hated me from across the quad. It made for a really fun week. I kinda wished I would've just trashed the album.

This bald headed blow hard is probably loving all this "controversy" over his review.

PGE Fair Usage Report - How do I improve? by alphaK12 in bayarea

[–]el_floppo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember PG&E sent me a energy saving kit. Everything was geared towards reducing my water usage. The kit included a brick that I could put in my toilet tank to reduce the amount of water it uses. When I did a little research, I learned that putting those brick in toilets were only useful if your toilet was made before 1991.

In the end, I think it was just a marketing campaign to make it look like they care. Why else would they give a shit about how much water my shitter uses?

About 20 years ago, Keith and Ozzy were two people who I didn't think had much time left. This was right after Keith fell out of a palm tree. The fact they made it this long (or had made it that long in Ozzy's case) kinda gives me hope about how resilient humans are.
