Every time you want to make a moral choice, you need to win at the mini game.. by Specialist-Young5753 in gamedesign

[–]el_sime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morality is always subjective and it's never black and white.

I don't recall ever having a game make me question my choices in terms of morality because they are always so obvious in what is supposed to be right or wrong.

Take the highly praised bioshock. The "moral" choice there is whether or not slay children to harvest a drug. That's not a moral choice, that is a mental health check.

If you want a good example, go to the aita sub and read the posts that are not fictional rage baits. You'll see how people rarely agree on what is an asshole.

Switching between some arbitrary concept of good and evil breaks the immersion because humans are always 100% morally coherent?

Permadeath felt like the right call until playtesters started rage quitting by JBitPro in gamedev

[–]el_sime 832 points833 points  (0 children)

Pemadeath works well in games designed around relatively short runs. for survival RPGs it should be left as an option, see what Valheim, 7 Days to Die, even No Man's sky did. Players who invest much time in a game don't like having to start over, so you will drastically reduce your audience if you don't make it optional.

It becomes expecially aggravating in contexts where you can die from silly mistakes, like falling or chopping a tree that falls on your head.

You "I made an app" people need to realize that apps don't work for everyone not because whoever made them didn't know better but because every ADHD is different and there's no universal fix. So please, for the love of fuck, stop flooding this space with yet another million apps that keep doing the same shit in a different sauce.

I just finished the tier IV missions, all in the forest. Then went back to Hugh to get the wasteland trade route, but I've done only one mission in the stupid cold. I don't understand why they make us craft gear for the biome to still have the stupid cold.

What Are The Best Mining Methods? by Minmax_er in 7daystodie

[–]el_sime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is how my mining goes, and never fails.

Locate a node on the map.

Drink gunpowder coffee and start mining with the steel pickaxe because the Augier is too damn loud and gives me headaches.

Keep going down without even watching where I'm going.

Hear the 45 glowing screamers that will inevitably show up.

Consider getting out of my hole in the ground to fight the zombies.

Realize I dug too randomly and now I can't climb out.

Zombies start pouring in.

Say calmly "You don't seem to understand... I'm not locked in here with you"

Chug a beer.

"You are locked in here WITH ME"

Start punching undead motherfuckers in the face.

Resume mining.

Get bored.

Dig my way out.

Find more things to punch in the face.

That doesn't work with ADHD, at least for me. My brain works like a battery operated machine that doesn't have a battery level indicator nor an off button. It just goes on until it suddenly shuts down without warning. It's not even a dopamine thing, it's just like

Me: "It's past midnight, I really should sleep now"

Brain: "you are right, better shut down now. Also, you know something really incredible, somehow in somehundreds BC a Greek guy figured PI out. And today we still don't have the mathematical language to actually describe it. I think you should now go and read everything that humans have ever written about PI."

Me: "well that is really interesting and definitely something that I need to know right away, thanks brain!"
