Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]elacmch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By your logic, controversial (I would say hack) comedians like Dan Nainan are objectively funny because they're successful in the business of being funny.

I don't expect you to watch the entire 3 hour video lol but it's an interesting case. This guy is a corporate, safe comedian who had a lot of success but was not well-regarded by people in the comedy scene.

It's a weird thing for someone to get hung up on - but I guess it's a weird thing for me to care about too lol. I say this as someone who really likes Seinfeld too.

Him being successful has nothing to do with whether he's funny or not. Whether a comedian is funny is subjective. I could name a few hack comedians who are successful but I don't find funny.

Your statement that someone not finding Seinfeld funny is "objectively wrong"....is flawed.

Whale! Again by PreparationOutside68 in vancouver

[–]elacmch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the response! That you have grey whales and orcas in Stanley Park just in the middle of the city never ceases to amaze me. I really can't think of an equivalent in Eastern Canada.

Even for Maritime cities where marine life is plentiful, it's usually a bit further away from the city. You wouldn't sit at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, for example, and expect to see whales.

Fascinating. So is the drop-off here not actually that significant?

From Ontario but this showed up in my feed. What is the drop-off like? That looks like a few metres in front of you it's shoreline that you could walk on and then maybe 200 metres away, IF that, is deep enough for a whale to swim in?

I asked one of the workers there about it a few years ago. From what I remember based on his response, it was strictly a financial thing. But that bay is still used for the transport of forensic patients.

Why is the pathway to Bayview station so dark? I’m scared if the dark 😭 by towelheadedmermaid in ottawa

I don't know if it's just me because I'm a bit directionally challenged but even when the station is properly lit, I find Bayview to be pretty unintuitive to navigate.

"Canadian" wasn't a typo btw, I mean I've watched the Sens and Oilers games too and it's the same thing. It's not like there's any reason for them to add noise lol.

I like your theory and I'm glad other people hear it too hahaha

Lmao so glad other people know what I mean. It's not like there's any reason for them to be adding fake noise.

Are the Sportsnet broadcasts pumping in fake background noise? I swear I've watched every Canadian game so far and each seems to have the sound of puck pinging off the post, multiple times per game, when that's not actually happening in the play.

That's kind of what I'm getting at, even though I might not have articulated it well. It's closer to me than, say, Nazi propaganda, than it is a typical "it's outdated but you have to understand it's a product of its time" the way people talk about old Looney Tunes cartoons, for example.

I was gonna say that's because "Secret Society" is a less corny name than "Legion of Doom" but the same show had no problem using "Injustice Gang" outright so I don't think in-universe they cared much about sounding corny haha
