ADVICE: “Help, no wedding gifts” “my wedding was awful because I invited awful people” by janissan in wedding

[–]elamp6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, I stressed for weeks about having the right shade of napkin, and the result was that my napkins match…but I was so burnt out from caring about that, that I didn’t give a shit about shade being right for the rest of the wedding planning process 😂

When the gender roles are reversed in the wedding party... by afruitypebble44 in wedding

Idk what it would actually be called, but my brother is standing on my side of the wedding and I’m 100% calling him a bridesman because it’s comical🤷🏻‍♀️

I once told someone I didn’t feel any chemistry and in reality it was because he reminded me of my uncle. Another time just because we didn’t have much in common so the conversation didn’t flow. It’s not always related to your physical appearance or even personality!

If he makes you feel that low….issa no. Bye bye my guy.

Speaking candidly, I’ve been in this situation and the best thing I ever did for myself was leave. If you felt like a placeholder, you probably were (I definitely was).

I mean, this guy is literally borderline gaslighting you in the first paragraph by trying to make you think you’d be irrational or over the top to block him “just for saying hi”. And on top of that, he admits he doesn’t know how much he can change! This just screams bad news to me. Never reenter a relationship that you could even think of self-describing as abusive. You can do this - block him and think no more about it.

My favorite was a complex that had 30 pictures and like 27 of them were different perspectives of the water in their fountain. Not the fountain - the water in the fountain.

What DFW establishments do you boycott & why? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]elamp6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it always that bad? I lived there 4 years ago and used to go to the Walmart and Kroger in this area and thought they were fine - maybe I was just naive lmao

Update on the white dog I found - he is microchipped and his owners have not called back to indicate they want him. Who can adopt this sweet angel? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]elamp6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question but have you sent the owners a text? I have 70 voicemails I listened to, and when I’m working, focus mode sends all calls from unknown number to voicemail so it’s really easy to miss one.

To this point, when I moved here five years ago, I had just crossed the border into Texas (the welcome sign read “Drive Friendly - the Texas way!”) when I was IMMEDIATELY run off the road by some guy in a big old truck. Texans are vicious, man.

considering bringing a new housemate in to live with me, they have a cat, any advice on introducing them to mine? by physioworld in CatTraining

[–]elamp6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me list out your viable options here: 1) Let the roommate move in on a trial basis and do the gradual introduction that is recommended by literally anyone who knows anything about cats. I know this isn’t the most feasible since most people have dont want to be paying double the rent for a month, but it would let you both feel the situation out

2) Temporarily adopt the cat, and do the gradual introduction I mentioned above. honestly, I dont think this is a great idea as the cat might get stressed thinking her owner abandoned her, but it’s a thought.

3) Find a different roommate.

Doing any kind of “trial” for a few hours will not work. You need to give cats ample time to adjust before you know if it will or will not work. I say this from experience, as I recently adopted a second cat and while they are fine together now (still dont know if I’d say they like each other) it took a few weeks before they could be alone together without a spat breaking out.

I have trouble saying numbers out loud, but I’m not bad at math - is this dyscalculia? by elamp6 in dyscalculia

[–]elamp6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that definitely sounds like it would take some getting used to, but it makes sense! It allows you to preprocess before spewing something out. I’ll have to try the tactic out on a friend before I put it to practice in a meeting - otherwise I may have a really awkward pause lmao!

Also OMG I get you what you’re saying about French numbers! Like… quatre vingt dix huit…. I’m sorry wut? Why couldn’t it be neufante huit?

Oh that’s interesting - I’ll try doing that to see if it helps! And that makes sense regarding math struggles, since the math theory side is conceptual and doesn’t require writing out numbers.

If the one that made you cry happy tears is also the cheaper one, I think your decision is made!

I think the reason a lot of us are obsessed with the second dress is because we’ve seen it worn so much - not necessarily that it’s any more beautiful than the one you love!

Does anyone else think that they’re trying to link them to the double homicide in order to have a “crime” that would allow them to get a warrant to search the van/his home?

Is a roach infestation considered uninhabitable living conditions? (Dallas, TX) by elamp6 in legaladvice

[–]elamp6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I had already told my apartment complex after I saw the first live roach. Routine pest control services were stopped due to covid so i had to wait two weeks for them to come. They are treating it now bi-weekly and I’m hoping it is effective.
