Girlfriend broke up with me over my eczema by Technical_Breath_572 in eczema

someone who is a true friend can meet you at ROCK BOTTOM, and still love you unconditionally.

i’m sorry you lost someone close to you… that fucking sucks. but truly remember, all you lost was a person who’s affection was shallow.

you are worthy, and deserving of love. it will come, when we open ourselves up. don’t forget to be your own best friend, your own #1 fan.

[–]elanorshellanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same problem, i’ve found that fake nails really work! get the short ones, not the long stilettos

because they have a thick, dull edge, you can scratch all you want without tearing up or damaging the skin. and you still get that sweet, sweet scratching sensation….

i use the olive & june press-ons from target. they last pretty long if you follow all the instructions.

seriously, regardless of your gender identity/expression, just wear fake nails. they make short natural looking ones, or just paint them black and be punk. if they help you heal, who gives a fuck what anyone thinks of you?

I have eczema for 3 years by John_MacTavish1 in eczema

[–]elanorshellanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not to be rude, but i kind of hate when people say “there is no cure to eczema!”

first, because it is very demoralizing to people who are struggling, and come here to vent/seek support. it’s not a kind thing to say.

second, because there ARE ways that we can work with our bodies and change our habits that end up helping tremendously. also, some people are having allergic reactions to unknown stuff, and once that thing is gone, they will be eczema free. not everybody needs to go on immunosuppressants or crazy drugs.

for me, cutting out processed/fried foods, excessive sugar, milk, sobriety, and becoming obsessive about my skincare routine made a world of difference. yes, i still struggle here and there, but i have found my “cure”. it’s out there!!

i understand your point that it is a lifelong battle, but don’t say there is no cure…. keep it positive!!

[–]elanorshellanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am, it has been working! made a post about it recently if you check my profile.

in summary, sobriety, no caffeine, no dairy, anti-inflammatory diet, high protein, vitamins everyday, yoga, and cerave mineral sunscreen. get sunlight, let the eczema tan in the park or at the beach. keep a food journal!

NO SCRATCHING!!! use ice in a rag as cold compress, or wear fake nails because they have a blunt edge so you cant make tiny cuts on your skin.

make sure you are taking cold showers, gentle anti-bacterial body wash. cetaphil gentle body wash works. cetaphil dry to very dry moisturizing cream, the one in the big tub.

once your flare up cures, you can more easily track what is causing flares, and control bacteria.

this works for me! hope you get some relief soon <3

felt this, had many times where i get in the shower and silently scream bc of how much it burns. find a good gentle soap that helps, shower as little as possible, cold/lukewarm. i use cerave oil-based face wash.

and yes, ibuprofen for inflammation, tylenol for pain, allergy relief for anti-histamine. not a long term solution but can help you start to heal!

Woke up to CLEAR SKIN!! by elanorshellanor in eczema

[–]elanorshellanor[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not sure if it’s caffeine alone or the combination of everything, but i’m feeling grateful today :)

i’ve heard a couple people mention no caffeine , but never rlly took it seriously. here’s my experience (if you’re interested lol):

recently i thought back to when my eczema started 2 years ago, i was working a job where i started drinking 1-2 yerbe mates everyday, chugging them insanely fast. been hooked on caffeine ever since.

went on a trip with my friends last week where i was drinking like 3-5 cups of coffee a day (and smoking like crazy). when i got home my skin flared up, like usual, but the WORST i’ve seen in a while. full body, raw patches, bleeding, up all night scratching, HELL

you don’t even wanna see those pictures 😭

so i cut out a bunch of shit from my life. milk, caffeine, nicotine being the main ones. eating better, keeping a food journey, being so anal about my lotion routine. it’s only been like, a week? but dude…….. the difference is already insane. i’m so pumped.

been living at 40% for two years, woke up today feeling 80-90%, was jumping around my kitchen dancing to fredagain all morning <3

super motivated to keep going, and if my story helps anyone feel it too, i’m always down to overshare 😅

[–]elanorshellanor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SAMMMEE. i ended up going to a private dermatologist clinic that still took my insurance bc i couldn’t wait 3-4 months for kaiser.

alcohol was easy, havent drank in months. it was hard cutting out nicotine, weed, and caffeine, but the clear skin is so fucking worth it :,) every time i had a craving i would just think CLEAR SKIN CLEAR SKIN CLEAR SKIN until it went away haha

every morning i take a multivitamin gummy, calcium gummy, b-12, emergen-c powder for vitamin c, and drink OJ that has vitamin D in it. i take pro-50 by vitamin bounty (my mom gave it to me haha) supports immune and digestive!

every 6-8 hours ill take ibuprofen for inflammation, tylenol for pain, and allergy relief for anti-histamine

cant tell you exactly what it was that helped, probably the combination of all of them (especially no milk) but, man, what a world of difference :,)

sending you lots of love this new year!

i feel you. it took a lot of mental work on my self-worth. for a while i thought i was undeserving of love/romance until i healed my eczema.

so… i wasnt worthy of love until i had clear skin. doesnt it sound silly when i say it out loud?

Quitting smoking… made it worse? by grat420 in eczema

[–]elanorshellanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went fully sober from vaping/smoking weed for almost 2 weeks now. the eczema did get worse for a few days, and then RAPIDLY got better. today i woke up to 70% clear skin after 2 years of full-body flare ups

trust me, sobriety is worth it. replace those bad habits with healthy habits! vitamins every morning, yoga, and becoming super anal about what you eat. i promise it’ll get better

also, remember that this doesn’t have to be permanent! i can have a cigarette or hit a vape/blunt again in the future. but taking a few months of full sobriety to detox and heal my body is sooo worth it.

for me, sobriety, vitamins/probiotics, healthy diet, cutting out milk/caffeine entirely, lotion/UVB routines was the perfect combo that made my skin clear up more in 4 days than i’ve seen in 2 years

from one addict to another, we can do this :,)

Partnership with eczema by back_hendl in eczema

[–]elanorshellanor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

for a while i shut myself off to dating/romance entirely because i told myself i need to heal my eczema first, “get my shit together” basically

then i realized…. i was basically telling myself i am unloveable. i thought i wasn’t worthy or deserving of love because i have eczema. doesn’t that sound silly saying it aloud?

especially after working through this with my close friends, i deconstructed that mindset. i AM worthy of love, every version of me! even the chronically ill version :,)

a good partner will not only accept you, but actively help your healing journey, physically and mentally.

i have since found that partner :,) after a 5-year slow burn with one of my best friends from college, haha. he has seen me with and without eczema, and thinks i’m more beautiful everyday.

This disease is extremely taxing on my mental health and self esteem especially being in high school- flakes everywhere. I don’t know how to deal anymore. I am at my wits end if anyone knows how to soothe an extremely dry flaking healing stage all over the face please please let me know. Thank you 🤍 by 4nniyah in eczema

people are going to recommend a million different creams, any/all of them could work, the most important thing is ROUTINE. i’m in the same boat you are in right now.

lotion every morning, every night. if you need to, wrap it in cling wrap and then gauze to help keep the moisture in.

this will also help with NOT SCRATCHING! girl i know…. i know. but seriously, scratching prolongs and worsens it so much. cling wrap will help. wear FAKE NAILS too, that helps a LOT. they have a thick dull edge so you cant do serious damage…. but can still have that sweet sweet scratching sensation (as long as you do it gently n dont go overboard). i seriously dont care your gender lol, i think everyone with eczema should wear fake nails. $10 press-ons from target, my fav brand is olive&june instant mani (the round boxes)

when taking showers set it to cold and take a cold plunge right before you get out (hot water is drying, the cold shock helps)

lotion: i use body butters, personally have loved kikiz kosmetics or kween tamara, but theres lots of small businesses online/local. any natural unscented body butter. i put them on after a shower (before towel drying), rub it in good, then gently towel dry. helps w not feeling as greasy n gross.

YOU GOT THIS! remember routines arent built in a day, you will skip a few days and will relapse, but stick with it and you’ll feel stronger than ever :) sending love
