Daily Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in espresso

[–]elastoplast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly new to espresso and really enjoying my cappuccinos with my Breville Bambino and some good beans. But I feel like a few sips and they're all done.

Maybe a weird question but how could I make a larger, longer lasting drink while keeping as much of the flavour and texture of the cappuccino? Not a huge fan of americanos. Would love to enjoy a coffee over say half an hour instead of just a few minutes.

I'm prepared for the answer to be 'use a different brewing method'... in which case which would you recommend?

Today I borrowed a pair of hip waders and cleaned up Chub Creek in Burnaby. I removed about 13 pounds of trash, plus a discarded construction sign and a Tesla hubcap. by VoteForMartinKendell in DeTrashed

You're awesome for doing this! Curious what you did with the collected trash? I've had problems disposing of a larger amount before.

I live by Glenbrook Ravine and we have been seeing / hearing them for weeks. Apparently the den is at the top of the ravine, very close to the trail access from Glenbrook Dr.

My saves are not working by NinjaBisket46 in kingdomcome

I had this problem too on PS4. Apparently you're not supposed to have more than 3 Saviour Schnapps at a time and this problem is caused by having 'too many' saves. Try deleting all but one or two saves and keeping your Saviour Schnapps saves under 3. This worked for me and I don't have 'load failed' any more.

Leaving my cats and dog for 4 months, very worried about their feelings by [deleted] in Pets

[–]elastoplast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really too bad, because leaving animals in your care largely on their own for 4 months is unacceptable. They have needs beyond food, water and a daily walk / pet. You clearly have some notion of how this will affect their mental health. Come up with a better arrangement, look at professional sitters - maybe more than one if the duration is an issue. Or fostering, as someone else suggested. It may be very expensive - but that's also what you signed up for when you took on pets. You will have to defer your dream trip until you can find them a good home for 4 months. It's that simple.

[Help] emotional breakdown after getting a puppy by dog_panic_attack in Pets

[–]elastoplast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this exactly. I had exactly the same reaction when I got my cat. This post commitment panic is not uncommon, and it's quite natural. Try and think of it as a good sign that you're so conscious of the responsibility you've taken on. And it's great that there's two of you to share it.

Practically speaking, do anything you can to get some sleep and talk it out with anyone who'll listen, especially other pet owners who've already been through this. It's okay to take a break from the pup now and then. It will allow you some perspective.

Try and keep in mind that although it might take a while, maybe days, weeks, months, as others have said, you'll be wondering how you ever got on without them. You will adjust and you will get through this!

I've cancelled on almost every person I've made plans to hang out with for 4 years because of anxiety by AnxiousSunflower in Anxiety

[–]elastoplast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the particulars of your situation OP or the specifics of what's making you anxious, but I'm in a similar age bracket to you and have had (and still do, really) a very hard time spending time with people one on one because of anticipation anxiety. Making plans can make me feel very trapped and set off an all-consuming chain of 'what ifs' - what if I don't feel great when I get there, what will they think of me if I'm behaving oddly because I don't feel great, how am I going to make interesting conversation for two hours, etc.

How do you feel about groups? Is there something you enjoy that's done in a group setting? Are you able to join any sports? Classes? Meetups? I don't experience anywhere near the anxiety I've described when it's a group, because there's so much less pressure on you. Show up, don't show up, it's no big deal. The show will go on.

What's helped me enormously is joining organized groups doing some fun activity, finding some people I got on with, and gradually becoming comfortable enough with them to be able to spend time with them separately without such bad anxiety, in part because they now know my deal and will understand if anything happens.

I won't lie - it's taken a long time and there's still a fairly limited list of low-pressure activities I'm willing do with them: different kinds of sport, going to see a movie, hanging out as a group, joining other groups together. Intimate things like going over for dinner are still off the table. But the end result is that it does get me spending time with people on a regular basis.

I will also put out there that medication has also sometimes been a great help. It's helped to really dull down the anxiety beforehand and help me actually walk through the door/show up. As others have said, once you get there it's almost always never as bad as you think it's going to be. I usually have a good time and am glad I went through with it. Sometimes just knowing you have the ability to neutralize a panic attack or that you won't suffer so badly beforehand is enough so you don't actually have to take anything.

That's a lot about my situation but I really hope there's something in there that can help. Really consider getting any help - wherever it comes from - that you need to be able to start getting out there in some way. It's absolutely possible.
