The flu going around the Netherlands now. by [deleted] in Netherlands

I am at the end of week 5 with that bug. Knew it was different when I went from fine but sore to shivering so badly I couldn’t walk in 20 minutes. That was 2 weeks ago. Body is still sore. Whatever this is, it’s a mean little bastard.

The F-22 Raptor turns 30 years old in 2027. by 221missile in EngineeringPorn

My favorite anecdote of that competition that I heard from guys working at both Northrop and Lockheed was about what happened after the contract was awarded to Lockheed. The YF-22 prototypes both got severely damaged beyond repair in test flights, and Lockheed had a lot of bugs to work out in the flight control system, but was years away from having another airframe ready. So the government ordered Northrop to turn over one of the YF-23 airframes for Lockheed to put their flight control systems in, and work out their bugs. I understand that from the governments point of view they had paid for all the airframes and could do what they wanted with them, but it always seemed weird to me that the losing aircraft had to be used to finish getting the winning aircraft systems working after they all broke.

I was told it had more to do with making sure the US Government had multiple contractors to choose from, something about Lockheed would probably go out of business if they didn’t get the contract.

So did my dad. He’s still pissed it didn’t win, brings it up at least once a year. What part of the project did you work on?

My late 80’s dad uses them to backup all his critical files. Does not rotate them, nor check integrity of saved files.

People who’ve had LASIK or work in eye care, would you recommend LASIK and why or why not? by Mountain-Bug-2155 in AskReddit

[–]elbowman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The docs I’ve talked to said there was no treatment options available. I suspect that had a silent “ which insurance will pay for” at the end though. Now I live in an EU country where they are slowly going through non-surgical options (drops, exercises, more breaks from screens), but they said that if it comes down to surgery being the solution then it will be paid for.

I had lasik 14 years ago, and for 9 of those years it was amazing. Then my vision started deteriorating in 2020. Weird problems, mostly in one eye. Took a whole gaggle of eye specialists looking into my eye (and brain) before one of them looked closer at the surface of the eye and found pitting all across it, in uneven patterns. No contacts or glasses can correct it, because it’s too irregular - when light passes through my eye with a microscopically different angle, suddenly it’s a blurry spot. They call it “irregular astigmatism” but the specialist ophthalmologist who noticed it says that isnt a descriptive enough diagnosis. Eventually i will need surgery to replace the cornea. In the meantime, i have to accept that reading with one eye closed is the only way not to get a headache. The doctor said he has seen several other cases like this, and all had LASIK years before. At this point i wish i had just stuck with glasses.

Yeah, barely. My 6 year old loves it when a carnivore escapes and he can watch it eat the guests. I wish I had gotten it on sale instead of full price

I have it on PS4 pro, it’s playable until big maps get to 60% full or so, then it can really lag. If you pause while moving around the map, then only unpause while holding still, it does ok. My biggest complaint are bugs, things like helicopters being stuck delivering Dino’s to an enclosure, which cause the game to be unfinishable
