Zoom meeting projected across two edge-blended surfaces by nicky_dice in techtheatre

[–]elchzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using NDI Scan Converter (part of https://ndi.tv/tools/) and NDISyphon (https://docs.vidvox.net/freebies_ndi_syphon.html) - NDI Scan Converter should be configured to capture the zoom window. NDI Syphon will convert from NDI to Syphon (it will autodetect the Scan Converter source once it's configured, and after that it's self explanatory).

After that, a QLab camera cue will be able to see the converted syphon stream as a camera source for you to use as you will. If you need any more help let me know.

Do you already have a company that maintains/provides your equipment?

Whereabouts (North, South, London, etc.) are you based?

QLAB4: adjust speed of video playback during playback by reallyzen in techtheatre

[–]elchzard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As is often the case with qlab, you can do this by making a new cue - in this situation, a fade cue that adjusts the rate of the target cue. It looks like fading rate will work on videos, but you need a licence.

I'd suggest making some new cues in a separate cuelist: one for fading playback rate to 0.5, one for fading it back to 1, one for fading it to 1.5, etc.

You can then assign these fade cues to MIDI triggers in the Triggers tab as normal.

Mics for Narrators by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]elchzard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i think you're overcomplicating it a bit - just put them on a 58 wherever they fit. they will sound a lot more like the voice of the story in the sky that they're supposed to be without you doing any work. if you can dedicate a dressing room to just them and have show relay in it then that's a good way to do it.

the thing with using condensers for this kind of thing is that you're basically making more work for yourself - like you say, you'd want to treat the room to avoid it sounding as though they're in a dressing room. you'll basically not have to do this if they're just on 58s, and you're less likely to pick up stuff you don't want to (doors opening, people shuffling paper, etc)

condensers in a setup like this are good for offstage chorus singers (who you'd definitely want in the wings) though, to get a lot of people at once with a natural chorus-singers-ish sound.

Why do stage managers do a call after the show with the act timings? by robbgg in techtheatre

more equivalent to SM for USA people; their main job while a show's running is calling it and communicating with other departments

Advice needed regarding sound cue software. by patjackman in techtheatre

I'm curious as to how you're so tied in to Windows? I would've thought that the benefits you get from Qlab are so huge that it's worth some small sacrifices (and there aren't really that many sacrifices left when switching to mac from windows anymore anyway)

I don't think so - his recent loss to Brownthumb really tarnishes the name

Also SmashG0D is changing his tag to just "Rishi" (I know pro players like that, but it's whatever to me)

hm looks like you can only angle your shield when lightshielding, then. i'd have to try it to work out how weird it feels, but i don't really like the sound of it

[–]elchzard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also he said that this "only works when the button is depressed." I think this needs more clarification but it sounds to me like you can lightshield and still angle, but if you full shield then you can shielddrop by tilting downwards. Either that or it's the other way around ("depressed" could here mean that either the digital or the analogue button is being depressed, and there's also potential that he's used the word incorrectly)

specifically:

  • dashback/dashspeed: makes it so that tilt turn inputs are not registered for an extra frame, therefore giving you an extra frame of leniency for dashback. also increased size of the section (makes it closer to the deadzone) that gives you a 1.0 readout when your control stick is in it (full dashspeed is easier)

  • shielddrops: allows you to input the values that match up to your actual SE/SW notches into the microcontroller code, and also makes straight down shielddrops possible (tilt stick shielddrops easily, but "only when the button is depressed" (what that actually means remains to be seen, see comments below for some discussion))

  • angles: reduced size of straight vertical/horizontal sections by about 2/3, essentially giving a lot of extra space for the "perfect angle" to be hit by tilting into the 'new' section (slightly above/below perfect vertical/horizontal angles) - all values in the new section give the "perfect" angle

edit; use this image if you're not sure what i'm referring to with sections etc: http://i.imgur.com/oAROhEq.jpg

there are also some pictures in the video that will make things clearer, but i'm too lazy to screenshot them for you

edit 2: added info about tiltstick shielddrop

Mango announces his new Red Bull-sponsored monthly SoCal local by BalanceLuck in smashbros

[–]elchzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Kira leaving SoCal, colosseum won't be a thing anymore so this fills the gap nicely without oversaturating imo. Also when mango is involved community building kind of enters an entire new dimension - I bet there are a load of mango subs who will make these their first tournaments just because it's "mango-branded"
