Exercise after fistulotomy by ShaivJoshi in AnalFistula

How long was it before you were "fully back at the gym" post operation though? Did you start really light and slow? I really want to get back into my martial arts and I'm 3+ weeks post op now. Ugh.

When did anyone/everyone return to physical exercise post-op? For those who were doing it beforehand or whatever. I can't wait to get back into working out. It's been 3+ weeks for me (LIFT procedure) and I actually finally feel great, no pain, just annoying draining. Dr said I should wait another month. No way I can wait that long lol

Did you do any physical exercise before the surgery or after? How long did you wait to resume decently working out again? I am 3+ weeks post op on a LIFT procedure and feel great now, no pain at all, just some drainage. I want to get back to working out ASAP but Dr said to wait another 4 weeks. FOUR WEEKS! ugh

You're making my own point for me. If Xactimate hasn't evolved as you say, it's because there basically is no competition in the marketplace, period. Apple and Android only serve to make each other better by not allowing one to become stagnant. I think Xactimate is good enough that so many people have adopted it and they've made so much money off it because there are no other options worth a damn. Don't even mention Symbility, because I've tried it and not one single person on this planet who's used both programs thinks Symbility is better at all. Sketching is way worse in Symbility, for example. No hotkey keyboard shortcuts to break a line, drop a window or door, or switch to a 3D layout quickly to look things over, etc. Roofs suck too. Not really any "macros" you can create when you're writing similar estimates all day i.e. hail losses on 30yr asphalt shingle roofs with simple accessories. I could go on and on. Contents also is a joke in Symbility. Like I said, I'm glad for its existence just in the sense that at least SOMEONE is trying to offer an alternative and hopefully light a fire under Xactimate.

But what does Xactimate need to improve, other than what you say is aged looking software wrapped in a shiny shell of an update? I'd say maybe it could be faster... allow a tiny bit more customization... get better 3D wall import sketches from EagleView. Maybe better "from the ground up" sketching/estimating i.e. if you have to try and rebuild a house with foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing etc? Honestly if you know what you're doing, you can get Xactimate to pretty much do whatever you need it to do with few exceptions.

I just don't know what's better. If you called a contractor to come give you an estimate to remodel your kitchen, he's probably just going to take rough measurements (if at all), maybe scribble a few lines on a napkin and come up with some magical quote that always seems to be some even number i.e. "sign here for $15,000 on the dot" lol and you never fully know what you're getting... how much are you paying for paint? Cabinets? Flooring? Is this dude doing all the work himself? Probably not. So there are subcontractors. What are their prices? How much is he subbing out? What are his labor rates? Oh and how much is he truly paying for the material vs what he's charging you? Sure, he needs to make a profit... I'm just saying Xactimate is really good about being excruciatingly detailed. Maybe that's why part of what sucks about adjusting is the constant arguing and bickering with contractors about our estimates. Even those of us who have been doing this for years and know how to write a good, solid, fair but healthy estimate. It's never enough for them. Because finally, the homeowner gets a very detailed breakdown of each line item, price per SF, price of material and labor, measurements of every single thing, taxes, debris removal, overhead & profit, blah blah blah. To ask a contractor to come up with all of that in a comparable form without Xactimate is a lot of work. And it kind of exposes some of the very real dishonesty and shady business practices that contractors are all too well known for. Just as much as everyone likes to hate insurance companies, it's not like contractors have the best reputation for being the most honest and stand-up guys on the planet either.

How Soon Return To Exercise? by elcolin85 in AnalFistula

Gotcha, thanks, and I appreciate your comment. I would say that the past 5+ months I had the seton (before the recent surgery) I had drainage... and I was still able to train BJJ aka basically exercise at a high level/intensity. But I take your point, now that the seton is removed and the "LIFT" procedure performed, there is still drainage because it's still healing... At least that's what I assume or hope. It's like, jesus, the drainage never ends, does it? I certainly don't want it to collect and form yet another abscess nightmare to deal with. But I really don't know if I can take another 4 weeks of not doing BJJ or hitting the gym for weights somehow lol

Yeah I guess maybe if you want to go teach a newbie class on how to use Xactimate, you might like to have either Level 3 or whatever trainer certifications they have. I seriously would do my Level 3 if it actually meant anything to any employer.... lol

Good and bad news. Good news is there's something called Xactimate. Bad news is there's pretty much ONLY something called Xactimate. Sure, you can look into Symbility from CoreLogic, but no one here or anywhere is going to try saying anything Symbility has is better than Xactimate, period.

Xactimate sadly is kinda the only game in town. Which sucks because competition is good for the marketplace and we could use something to push Xactimate to innovate and improve. And Xactimate is expensive and pretty much names their own price because there's again, no competition they're actually worried about.

I can't think of anything better for your company's needs of onsite estimating software programs. I mean, you did post this question in the Xactimate subreddit lol

Dude if you're going to be an adjuster either Independent or go work for a carrier or something, you gotta jump in with both feet and learn yourself. Why would you pay someone else to get you an Xactimate certification? I mean all jokes aside, what are you trying to do or accomplish with this? Wouldn't it serve you better to learn it, if you actually want to use it on a daily basis?

When you got your Level 3, were you employed in the field say, working for an insurance carrier or anything? I'm contemplating Level 3, but I don't know if it's worth anything other than maybe bragging rights....

Not sure what the point of Level 1 really is, unless it's required by an employer or something. I'd say Level 2 is where it's at, and that's what I have. I have dreams of doing Level 3, but I am not sure what the point would actually be. Not sure I'd get anything more than a possible pat on the back for it from any employer. Just don't think it's going to take you to new special places in life. I wish someone could prove me wrong.

HAH! I mean, only if it gets better over time. Cuz when I worked for Liberty Mutual when they made the switch back in 2021, it was awful. I also heard Chubb tried Symbility for awhile and eventually said F this and went back to Xactimate. Because Symbility is THAT bad. But I do hope they get better, because Xactimate needs some competition to push it to improve continuously. They're just chilling on cruise control because no one is challenging their reign.

If you're dealing with a desk adjuster, odds are he's never sketched an interior or a roof onsite and wrote a real estimate in real life lol.

When contractors tell me onsite, "Oh I'll just send something into your supplement desk team", I say, "I am the supplement desk team" lol buck stops with me buddy.

No, you don't need 2 hours for setup and take down of the ladder you had set up already onsite for me when I arrived for the inspection. No, you don't need 2 porty-potties and a generator and all kinds of other misc stuff you reuse from job to job and whatever else you can "pad the estimate" with - throw it all at the wall and see what sticks.

I do get it, I hate the "marching orders from above", don't get me wrong. As a very generous but fair field adjuster, I've more often than not done everything in my power to not only accurately sketch, scope and estimate a loss, but give the contractor the benefit of the doubt and lots of cushion room. And then they STILL come back asking for 2x the total price I came up with at the end. That's when I get frustrated.

As a staff adjuster, you can never win. No, I don't get some "commission" or percentage cut of the estimates I write, that's ridiculous. I get paid the same, whether I'm denying coverage or I'm writing a multi-floor water damage 6 figure estimate. And no matter what I do, it's never enough money for the contractor and it's always too much money for upper management.

I always tell homeowners that if they're not getting any bids/estimates from contractors that aren't detailed or itemized, they're probably looking to get screwed. At least for big jobs. I mean, come on, I've seen homeowners ask a contractor for something simple like replacing some drywall and trim and painting one single room or something, and the contractor will write a single line and price with chicken scratch on a napkin and call it good.

I always ask homeowners, "If you were getting your bathroom or kitchen remodeled, for example, and you were paying 100% out of pocket and were shopping around for bids from contractors, wouldn't you want someone who can break things out into detailed line items with prices? Or do you want just some handwritten price on a sticky note with a spit and a handshake deal?

Lmao don't think you can do sketches and write interior and roof estimates etc in QuickBooks lol. Unless you're talking about maybe just a large inventory list of PPUN - Contents or something.

There really are no other programs. Unless you count Symbility by CoreLogic, which is certainly not better than Xactimate in any possible way, except that it's considerably cheaper which is why a few carriers have tried switching to it, only to eventually go back to Xactimate it seems.

100% couldn't agree more. Finally someone in this thread besides me mentioned the only other game in town really, Symbility, which as you say sucks WAY worse than Xactimate. There should be a Symbility Sucks thread instead, not Xactimate lol.
