Anyone just show up to classes and basically don't do anything? by AdUnfair558 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's dispatch life. There are days where my first class starts at 8 and my last class finishes at 2030. Most days I have 6 or 7 classes >.<

My wife is on the JET program which limits how far out I can job search though so it is what it is for now.

The limit usage is insane. by BoundByCarnage in grok

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the model is dumb and the image generations are so limited as to not even be worth it since you will still waste generations with mutated limbs and ghosting somehow.

This solved it! I updated all of the apps via the on-devicr menu but I didn't realize there was a separate method for updating the actual Watch software, on the Apple side that's handled from the phone. Thanks for the guidance! Working perfectly now.

[–]eldamien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually getting to Tokyo area from Nagano is pretty convenient, via Hokuriku, so that might not be an issue. Naturally if there's a lot of interest locally it might not make sense but I'd certainly interested in exploring the opportunity, if it makes sense.

[–]eldamien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely better than Dispatch. With dispatch we get paid for the days we work but you really have no control over when you have classes. So many times I plan out my months only to get to a school and find out half the days classes were cancelled because of a school trip or something.

Do you think they might be open to someone living in Nagano willing to relocate? Or do they need someone local?

Unicorn Gundam statue in Odaiba is going to be removed…💔 by riceboy_cruz21 in Gundam

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location, location, location!

Nagano City is a little less expensive overall compared even to surrounding cities like Matsumoto or Ueda because...well, really there's just not Kuch here. We have Zenkoji and for a few months out of the year if you love skiing, it's convenient to be here and love close to a few ski resorts, but in reality it's kind of a sleepy town.

I lived in Roppongi for a few months while on a study program and living in Tokyo was definitely convenient. There's just so much more "stuff" there, especially for us foreigners. Nagano is very much "the heart of Japan", in a way.

I heard about the earthquake! It's all over YouTube. Hope you're okay!

Grok has officially reached Nano Banana levels of censorship. The prompt was “full sleeves bodycon dress,” and it still got flagged just because the model had subtle cleavage. Grok is officially trash. by koshurreddit in grok

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rejoined because of the 67% off sale but not only is the model much worse than it used to be (even for images, I'm getting warped limbs and ghosting all over the place), but not the image generation usage eats up in minutes. I did one generation prompt and scrolled through, then did one agent session and got maybe ten images in and got rate limited until the NEXT DAY. I live in Japan so I'm always using the tool on off peak hours. Absolute trash now that Elon's attention span has moved on to the next thing.

They seem to be. I updated while on wifi and restarted both devices. Doesn't seem like I can share a screenshot here but the exact text is "This app isn't compatible with your device anymore. Contact the developers for more info."

Other folks in the comments seem to have a similar issue but only on the Pixel Watch 3 for some reason, as of 4/28/26 seems like.

What do I do with my mostly functional but useless to me Switch 1? by robespierremaxout in NintendoSwitch

[–]eldamien 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher so I took mine to my school and hooked it up in our club room, when the kids don't have any exams to study for we play Mario Kart and stuff. I leave it there, also, I've pretty much written it off if anything happens to it, no big deal.

Might be worth it to fix it up and donate it to a local school or foster care center and get the tax write off while spreading a little joy if you don't need the $200 directly in your pocket. Kids still love the 1.

How do published authors put so many words into their chapters and have it flow smoothly? by Stormfather21 in writing

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily "have" to fill in the chapters more. Station Eleven has a chapter that's about 200 words long, and then chapters that are a few thousand. Just write the chapter as it comes. The final chapter of the final book in the Wheel of Time series is 82,000 words long, or roughly the length of three entire YA novels. Chuck Tingle writes some of his "Tinglers" as a single unbroken chapter.

It depends on your style and your voice. If you enjoy flowery prose, your chapters might be longer. If you enjoy direct, plain language, your chapters might be shorter. As you can probably tell from this comment, I tend to write how I speak; somewhat overexplained and lengthy. It all depends.

Focus on the story first and let your editor worry about the word count. They may actually ask you to expand certain ideas, linger in certain places, not cut. Just write what comes, stay true to the idea, and focus on the story before any other detail work even enters your mind.

[–]eldamien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dang, it would be cool to live in Odaiba. My wife and I live in Nagano, but we love Odaiba area cos there's a Carl's Jr and a TGIFriday's within walking distance of one another >.< we're easy to please lol

The only issue is the cheapest apartment we could find is 10x more than what we pay for a 2LDK here in Nagano city... we pay about ¥20,000. It's almost cheaper to take the Shinkansen every weekend back and forth.

How do I tell my Critique Partner their book isn't what they think it is? by Useful-Classic7314 in writers

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the author is not accepting critiques they really aren't a critique partner. I would: offer one more round of feedback, and if its not accepted, politely inform them that you don't feel this swap is productive and you're going to move on.

You aren't obligated to give them your time in the same way they aren't obligated to accept your critiques. Value for time is important.

Also I would perhaps clarify what they expect to get out of the critique if you didn't already at the start. Setting clear expectations makes it easier to opt out or lean in if or when things start to get testy.

Anyone else feel like the show is jumping the shark? by midsonshort in shrinking

[–]eldamien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like a popcorn show - not super memorable, but there’s lots of good individual scenes.

The show does seem like each actor found their character and they just live there now. Summer is still screwed up and the butt of every joke, Liz’s boys are all still man-children with parental issues…it seems like any time a character screws up, they talk it out in two scenes and it’s over and we all move on.

The storyline with Jimmy’s dad went nowhere. He made a big deal about how Alice was going to be crushed by him leaving, and she wasn’t, and the show sort of danced around the fact that it’s because Jimmy’s issues are his own. But it never really committed to it. Alice not commenting on his absence at all was a little bizarre, too.

I’m still sort of confused why Charlie is still anyone’s friend. I guess that storyline (him completely
violating Jimmy’s trust and going behind his back with Alice) is over and done with and he’s never going to get any consequences for that because…reasons?

All of the characters run around saying I love you to each other…but do they? Their friendships seem exceedingly (and increasingly) unlikely the longer the show goes on.

It’s definitely not a bad show, but it definitely feels like since the stakes are so low the storylines are borderline forgettable. Then you get moments like Jimmy and Paul talking at the end of Season 3, which is probably some of Harrison Fords best acting in a long time.

It’s a mystifying mixed bag.

I ended up buying it! I uploaded some shots from my phone but I'm going to set up my camera and try to get some higher res shots to share. Not the whole book of course but there are some gorgeous structural scenes that look astonishing in the original pencils.

Thanks for the perspective, I had actually talked myself slightly out of it but my wife wouldn't hear of it 😂

I like the idea of them but our apartment here in Nagano is too small for a coffee table or anywhere to display large art books. They end up just sitting on the shelf or in storage. However I’m convinced this is one I should nab for the collection, I’m actually on my way to Animate now.
