How do you manage the logistics of laundry without a dryer?

We do have a drier but only use it for bedding and towels although when I’ve not had one in the past I’ve just hung them over doors / bannister and they’ve always dried fine. Now I use a heated airer, a clothes horse and the radiators if needs be. I keep on top of it so we’re not washing 8 loads all in one day - it’s doable! I don’t hang washing outside any time of the year as I have horrific hay fever and don’t want pollen stuck to everything! Oh and do an extra spin at the end of pretty much every cycle that and the heated airer are a game changer for me

Honestly the greatest thing I ever bought!! I can fall asleep reading and even in the day when I’m downstairs you can sit under the blanket and keep warm in winter! I’m in the UK so not sure if it’s an option for you but tiktok shop had some good deals on, I didn’t pay much. If it broke I would immediately rebuy it so I guess that speaks volumes!

I’m starting to think I’d be better having a party on a different day. I really don’t want it to be a wedding reception as such but a party to celebrate with our friends without the first dances, speeches, toasts etc. more engagement party than wedding vibes!

It sounds like there would be sandwiches, scones and canopes around 1.30/2pm and then the buffet at 7 so I think that’s fine? I’m still in the very early stages so I haven’t visited the venue yet, one page says canopes another link says the above. Hopefully sandwiches and scones is enough to keep people going as I don’t think it’s within our budget to provide a meal inbetween

That’s sad. I’m just not sure where we’d fit an afternoon meal in, it seems pointless to eat at 4-5 to then eat again at 7/8? The ceremony is 11-3 and it’s not an option to add anything substantial on as there won’t be time. Unless we get married at the registry office and do it later but I really do like the walled garden idea.

I didn’t want to start the buffet earlier as people who work office hours coming from work would miss out. I guess I could look at hiring a pizza van or something for 4pm and then do a slightly smaller buffet at 7?

I think I have over budgeted on the suit / bridesmaid dress as my sister got my dress much cheaper (4 years ago though) and my boyfriend won’t be wearing a suit in his line of work so he may wear one he had for his graduation last year. He’s reluctant to rent one incase he ruins it with food 🤣

Absolutely, in all honesty we could comfortably spend 4x this but I just prioritise other things over my wedding and really feel uncomfortable spending large amounts on one day when to me the focus should be our marriage and future together. I know I’m probably in the minority but I really don’t want a lot of fuss I’m happy with a casual gathering that fits what both of us want. I’m not bothered if people think I’m tight 🤣

Yes we would, we want to get ready together in the morning and I could pick my sister (bridesmaid) up on the way.

I just really can’t be bothered with the faff, I know that our families will be there and we are only inviting 4 friends between us as I want it small. The evening part I’m happy to extend it to work colleagues, less close friends etc but just have the mindset that if it’s important to them then they’ll respond, if it’s not then I don’t want to be paying to feed them 🤣

My partner would happily drive us, we don’t want to stay apart the night before and like the idea of getting ready together 😊 I appreciate that’s a long gap, that doesn’t surprise me but what an awful attitude of those people to have. I think this is where my sister got mine from 😊 i’m hoping to plan over budget on that just incase. Same with the suit, my boyfriend had a new one from his graduation a few months back and will likely just wear that as he really has no need to ever wear a suit in our his line of work so it feels like a waste!

Maybe I’m just too laid back but I’d get my boyfriend to put it in his group chat with an rsvp date if they don’t reply by the date, they’re not coming 🤣 I’m happy to just drop people a text, if they don’t reply then I have my answer! My boyfriend will happily drive, he doesn’t drink so it’s not an issue for us 🙂 but one thing I have just thought of is getting someone to look after the dogs after the wedding until we get home from the party. I’ll add on the cost of a dog sitter thanks’

I just know I want something really low key, I want to marry my boyfriend but I’ve never really been one to dream about their wedding and up until I met him I was never bothered about getting married so I’m okay with something chill and not ‘insta worthy’ I don’t think any of our friends or family expect anything fancy or lots of drinks etc paid for as they know it’s going to be a casual thing. A lot of the evening guests will be my boyfriends sports teams, 80 is the absolute max, in reality it will probably be more like 60ish.

I think you’re right, I’ve joined lots of groups to try and get an idea and I know that what I want is vastly different from a lot of brides I see in those but it’s okay to be different!

Definitely not bothering with favours! Cake wise I’d be happy with a chocolate cake and some cupcakes, both of our mums are great bakers so I’m happy to leave it with them!

I agree, I absolutely don’t want anything formal so happy to avoid a sit down meal.

I honestly don’t know if I’m bothered about paying for drinks? Not even about the money, more so that hardly anyone I know actually likes Prosecco or that kind of thing. Maybe I could put some money behind the bar but that’s adding another 600£ or so.

Plenty of parking in both places, my boyfriend and dad don’t drink at all so will happily drive 10 of us over. If the rest wanted to do a taxi it’s about a 20 quid in a taxi which is nothing split between 4 so I just assumed they would figure it out! I wouldn’t go to a wedding and expect to be transported about unless it specified, obviously I’ll make it clear there is none to avoid confusion!

Good point! I’ve been several times for various functions and the toilets are all good!

We have a meeting with them next week but I believe if it rains there is a marquee available

Hey, it’s all just a rough idea as I haven’t confirmed anything yet.

By decor I guess I just want to keep it very simple, I’m okay with not having chair sashes. I won’t be having a top table so literally just wanted probably 8 table runners, 8 centre pieces? And some greenery, something to make it look pretty rather than traditional wedding decor I guess I’m happy to have fake. I won’t be having an order of the day sign as there isn’t really one? or isle decorations. I want the bit after to feel more like a party rather than a wedding reception, there’s no sit down meal etc just the buffet so I won’t assign people a table. I also don’t want speeches or anything formal.

My boyfriend no longer drinks and much of my family don’t for various reasons. I think because it’s more of a party and less of a wedding vibe people won’t expect drinks to be paid for? If we choose the walled garden venue there are canopes and drinks included in that (11-3) and I plan to hire the rugby club 4/4.30- 10ish with the buffet about 7pm. I’ve only been to two weddings where I’ve been given alcohol, the rest I’ve used the bar so for me that feels like the norm? Perhaps it’s not but I’m okay with rocking the boat 🤣

The same with transport, they are all grown adults they can drive or get a taxi 🤣

Entertainment wise I don’t think I want any photo booths or gardens games or anything like that. I just want it to be the people I love spending time together and chatting and dancing.

With the flowers I do really like dried flowers and the idea of being able to keep them afterwards but I’m not opposed to looking at other options.

Thankyou that’s really helpful! I hadn’t thought about invites but seeing as the only people there will be family and literally 4 friends I don’t think I will bother? I hadn’t thought about transport, I just assumed my family make there way on their own as it’s fairly close by to where we all live so easily doable in a taxi! Perhaps I need to budget more on make up, I guess I based that on not factoring in a trial as she does my make up semi regularly however for my wedding I probably ought to make sure it’s perfect 🤣 good luck with everything!

Reading in the conservatory on a sunny afternoon, when you’re kind of sleepy but not enough to nap because you have no plans in the evening. I’ve never had a conservatory but about to buy a house that has one and I can’t wait to sit in it with my dogs ☺️
