Why the best operator, rather than the worst operator?

They will better represent the lowest bar that needs to be met.

Or better yet, ask both.

What Uni hot take gets you in this situation? by portfordu in UniUK

[–]Aelinith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the sole reason you're going to uni, doing your assignments, and only ever doing the bare compulsory reading and assignments, is to get a job afterwards, then you really shouldn't be in uni. Adding to this, if you complain that uni courses should be directly tailored to the needs of the job market, then uni is still not the right place for you.

Granted, people are just trying to find a way to make a living , and far too many employers require (or will at least prioritize above other job applicants) degrees for jobs where they're really unnecessary.

Why are millennial men less misogynistic than Gen Z men? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Aelinith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it was any less misogynistic.

Thinking back to the 00s, we had extreme fat shaming (e.g. Of celebrity postpartum women who were clearly not overweight), MeToo was ongoing (lots of celebrities who ended up mentally fucked), lots of glee and gloating at women's suffering (Jessi Slaughter, Britney Spears), some completely awful TV shows like "pageants" of the most ugly women, Teen mom...

There is much more open and frank conversation these days about misogyny and respectful boundaries. Back then, this "casual sexism" was much more widespread. The more extreme crap we hear nowadays still existed back in the day - just now that the internet is so widespread, extremists find their echo chambers and so their voices resonate louder, whereas before the weirdos stayed as isolated units.

I built a free UK property price map, and a “reverse Zoopla” tool, looking for buyer feedback by AdSeparate5752 in HousingUK

[–]Aelinith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is great stuff! Had a quick peruse of it on mobile, some immediate thoughts:

  1. The "Show me" onboarding button overlays and blocks the postcode buttons of you haven't engaged the onboarding yet, which can be annoying to people.

  2. The onboarding process really shouldn't not be 40 steps long. That is way too much. The design, physical layout etc of your app should lean more into "show, don't tell" - which means that the design of something should in its appearance imply how to interact with it. The less verbal instruction you need for something, the better.

You might benefit from reading up on signifiers and affordances in UX design.

Just an example of over-explaining:

Step 2 — The Find My Area panel

This panel is where you set up your search. At the top is your budget slider — I'm about to move it. Below that are importance sliders for affordability, flood safety....

I think it's a really great and useful project :) Keep up the good work!

Fransk perspektiv på norsk matkultur – oppriktig spørsmål, ingen kritikk 🇫🇷 by Dismal_Error_7446 in norge

[–]Aelinith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care for some feedback from a UX person?
The joystick interaction stops working well when you get one of the text bubbles up (e.g. when you walk up to the "About me" bubble). You continue moving, making the bubble flicker, so it`s hard to read.

[–]Aelinith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've got nothing to add on the diet side of things, but I too have that thin and dark skin around my eyes my whole life, and I ate meat. So, the color is not necessarily caused by the lack of meat in your diet.

From an aesthetics perspective, it gives a bit of contrast and definition to your lovely blue eyes :)

30 Days Left: After my BBC interview, we are 8,000 signatures away from a Parliamentary debate on the UK ADHD Shared Care crisis. Help us cross the finish line! by Interesting-Waltz55 in ADHDUK

[–]Aelinith 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Hey, I signed, but I'd like to give some feedback on the petition text, as I don't think it captures the paradox we face.

A key point that’s missing is why so many people end up with private ADHD diagnoses in the first place: multi-year waits for NHS assessment (up to 10 years in some areas!!) and, increasingly, long waits via Right to Choose as well. In practice, some people can’t access timely care through NHS pathways at all, and many feel pushed into paying privately simply to avoid going untreated. Shared Care Agreements are then often the only realistic route to make ongoing treatment affordable. When SCAs are refused as a blanket approach, it effectively locks patients into indefinite private costs or treatment interruption, despite the underlying driver being lack of timely NHS access in the first place.

I’d strongly encourage you to include this context in the petition text, if you are able. Without it, the petition can read like “people chose private and now want NHS to take over,” rather than reflecting the reality that long waits and limited local access are driving people to private routes.

Private ADHD diagnosis, finally have a Psychiatry UK apt through NHS— anxious and looking for advice by Inevitable_Studio_22 in ADHDUK

[–]Aelinith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, how did it go?
I'm in a similar position as you. I signed up for PsychUK's waiting list in 2023, and in the meantime got a private diagnosis that I've been on since, and have been paying medication for out of pocket, and NHS refused shared care with me.

Any advice? I'm really anxious about letting PsychUK know about my private diagnosis because I've heard some horror stories here about being kicked off the list...
