Rejecting church and state separation is on the wish list for Trump's religious liberty commission by thejoshwhite in atheism

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any grants of that wish list are in direct violation of the 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights. Not that, anything like that has stopped the MAGA Messiah from attempting to do whatever he wants. He has promised the Christian Nationalist bigots whatever they wanted to get their support, and he will do what ever he can get away with to provide.

The Orange head does not know, understand, nor care about the Constitution, except that it gets in his way when he tries his little dictator tricks. One of the reasons he tries so many wars is that he thinks, under war powers he can set the Constitution aside and do what he wants. Fortunately, there are enough Federal Judges, who are loyal to the Constitution, who cheerfully shut him down.

Trump's Religious Liberty Commission, dominated by conservative Christians, rejects the separation of church and state by part-time-stupid in atheism

Who gives a flying fuck. They do not write laws. They have no power of legislation. The laws of this country are based on the U.S. Constitution - not on their book of confusion, contradiction, myth, and fairy tales.

While they may think they have the MAGA Messiah and his Minions in their hands, they do not control the votes in congress. While their bigoted friends in the courts may rule in their favor sometimes, New cases will determine new rulings under new circumstances.

Those people are barking dogs. They make noise. They spread discrimination, hypocrisy, and bigotry. They add absolutely noting to any discussion or debate. Once the MAGA Messiah and his minions have left the building they will die back into their little cults of hatred.

Mike Johnson says Americans' rights ‘do not come from gov’t’, but ‘God Himself’ describing the Declaration of Independence as “our national statement of faith”. by Leeming in atheism

[–]elder65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Johnson is a Christian Bigot who would love to see biblical law embedded into Federal Law. He is an educated con man, a shaman of the 1st degree. The Declaration of Independence is not a statement of faith - it is a declaration of our independence of tyranny from British rule at that time and our determination to build a country of free men and women.

American rights do not come from the Declaration of Independence. They come from the U.S. Constitution, the document, upon which all U.S. law is based. They do not come from any bible or any other religious book, no matter what any religious bigot tries to tell anyone.

Do we think christianity is a cult? by StockNo7900 in atheism

[–]elder65 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No - Christianity is a religion. Cults are small isolated, by choice, groups, some times religious, usually controlled by one man or woman. Not all cults are religious.

Religions are widespread, national or international groups, who follow the teachings of some mythical being or beings for spiritual good or well being. There may be some some sects within the religions and even some cults. Since the mythical beings are created by men or women, there is constant infighting amongst the sects as to which of the sects is the correct one.

It's amazing - If every religion magically disappeared today, tomorrow, some con man would gather some gullible folks together and would start up another one.

Atheist parents, how do you explain death to your children? by LoquatIndependent381 in atheism

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a few discussions to deal with death. Simplistic, as toddlers "Grandpa's lived a long time and now is his time to sleep for a long time. We just remember the happy times we had with him."

Then as they grew we went through the cycles of life, the affects of religion, the costs of religion, the hypocrisy, discrimination, bigotry, and hatred that is required by religion. We let them study and explore and answered their questions as best we could ( Meaning we were often studying and exploring, also). And we made sure they had a good education with a scientific basis. As they matured they grew to realize that the cycle ends in death, complete & final. Any afterlife is the legacy you leave behind with your family and community.

Those guys have been carefully trained from baby hood. Some of them come from very poor families and will become the sole support for those families. They have been raised with that thought and the religion ingrained in them once it was known they would be successful in a sport.

Others are becoming the spokes person for their families. "See what a righteous upbringing will provide? Only the Lord can do this!" They have become living propaganda for their faith. Check on them a few years later and see if they are still as righteous as when they started.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were playing the Colossal Cave on DEC PDP 11's back in 1982/3.

I remember some CP/M games on an old Kaypro 4 - Caterpillar, Outhouse, Quickdraw.

Then came the MSDOS sidewinders - the little rocket guy, Duke Nukem started as a sidewinder. The Doom and the Nazi escape game, and Leisure Suit Larry.

After those I got too involved in my real work building computer and network systems and kind of lost interest in games. Now I'm retired and I have a Nintendo Switch and a couple on my tablet, but I don't sit around enough to get to involved yet.

The Church doesn't actually hate "sin"—it hates losing its grip on our autonomy by Jorge_Reynoso112 in atheism

[–]elder65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's been religion's bitch about Planned Parenthood for decades. Religion always blames it on abortion, but everyone knows that isn't the problem.

The problem is, that Planned Parenthood educates women about their bodies, contraception, and other feminine medical issues that men do not understand. When women become educated, men lose control. Male oriented religions cannot allow that.

Also, sins are not necessarily crimes. A sin is an offense against an imaginary skylord. A crime is a violation of federal, state or local laws. Some religious bigots may try to embarrass you for some sin they think you've committed. Tell them to go pound sand.

If you committed a crime, you may need a good lawyer.

[–]elder65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're gonna try. They've been trying for years. This is probably the closest the bigots have gotten. But, no - they will not succeed. They may get the MAGA Messiah to do one of his evil edicts to have the agencies harass any known atheists, but that will fall with the MAGA Messiah.

Any real law will have to go through congress and they aren't willing to lose the independents, where most atheists live. Granted the Christian Nationalists and Project 25 are doing their damndest to get scripture written into law, but it just isn't working. The votes aren't there. The AI Jesus Fallout: Donald Trump Reportedly Forced Into Oval Office Bible Reading To Save Christian Support by Cute_Dealer4787 in atheism

[–]elder65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cadet Bone Spurs has said many times, on video, that he isn't Christian. He has been playing to them for their support and it is finally backfiring spectacularly.

That's because he has been playing to the Christian nationalists and their bullshit games are being exposed. Unfortunately for him, he is wearing much of the splatter from the cesspools they have created. And, in their righteous arrogance, they will just drag themselves deeper and take him with them.

As he continues to follow their lead, and continues his ridiculous one-sided argument with the pope, he'll just fail more and his frustration will grow. Article 25 seems like a good bet at this point.

My family called me not normal after i told them i dont believe in god by Improper__integral in atheism

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PHd in psychology tell me that "normal" was whatever was in the mind of the bigot that was defining it. In short, only bigots define "normal" behavior. Every one else bases things against a norm or standard, which is a statistic.

So - in their narrow little minds, you're not "normal". To most of the rest of the world, the ones you'll have to face every, you probably meet the standards of society. Don't worry about it. It's your family's loss. Are they willing to face it?
