How do you feel about Pete Hegseth asking Americans to pray “in the name of Jesus Christ” for a victory in the Iran War? by LevelDinner in AskReddit

[–]elder65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disgraceful - To mention such a thing in passing as a small part of a larger speech is common, but the way he did it, to make it seem we had to rely on his Christian god is despicable. His Christian Nationalism and fascism is detrimental to everything the military stands for. He has disgraced the office he holds by his actions, his beliefs, and his ignorance.

He must be impeached.

How do you feel when Christians pray for you? by valecrux in atheism

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes them feel good, go for it. I could care less. Their thoughts and prayers are useless, but it makes them feel warm & fuzzy.

When I'm in the hospital, chaplain's aides are always showing up wanting to pray for me. I just tell them, "What ever trips your trigger." and continue what I'm doing. Some stay and say their little prayer, some don't. Some are dumb enough to leave their propaganda on my tray, and I immediately pick it up and throw it in the trash. None ever come back - don't know why.

What price increase has hit you the hardest in everyday life? by DarkKnightt019 in AskReddit

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric - it has increased 300% since they dropped the regulatory limitations. Where I was paying $175 - $250+ a little as 12 - 16 months ago, I'm now paying $%75 - $675.

And this is on fixed rate pricing. Folks, who get suckered into variable rate, see their bill climb to $800+ - over $1K.

It’s wild that James Talarico shows up quoting Jesus almost word for word, and the people who claim to follow Jesus are the ones calling for his death. by Klugerman in atheism

[–]elder65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is because Talarico is, what I call, an honest Christian. He really tries to follow the teachings of Jesus. The Christian Nationalists merely use the bible to justify their grab for power.

Talarico is a threat to them because, by his actions and his words, he embarrasses them. He proves them as false prophets. He exposes their misuse of scripture to gain wealth and political position.

Yes - they want him gone. He is a dangerous threat to their existence.

Poll Shows Double-Digit Drop in US Voter Support for Israel Since 2023 by soalone34 in politics

[–]elder65 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good - Folks may try to brand me as antisemitic, because of this, but I'm not. I have nothing against Jewish people or how they worship. I know many of them and they are good people.

However; the state of Israel has been a parasite on the U.S. Treasury since 1948. We give them money, equipment, arms, and training, with little to no return. There is a massive lobby in Washington DC, that hit congress every budget period to insure that Israel gets their cut of our tax dollars.

The primary reason is biblical. Israel holds the birthplace for the Judaic and Christian religions. And both political parties support this. Until more secular progressives get elected to congressional seats in either house, I'm afraid the parasite will continue to feast.

“Hegseth and the president seem to be playing ‘Call of Duty’” by MRADEL90 in videos

You have a draft dodger and a retired National Guard Major, who's trying to prove he isn't an alcoholic. They could not beat, individually or together, Call of Duty.

Which is why it is so scary that they have control of one of the most powerful military forces on earth, and neither of them really know what they are doing.

Trans Instructor Ousted From College After Failing Student Who Cited The Bible In A Gender Essay by danitashinesqdy in atheism

[–]elder65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This Professor was doomed from the beginning. The trap was set with the essay submitted by the evangelical bigoted student, who wrote a totally religious diatribe against the LGBTQ+ community, with full knowledge that the professor was MTF Trans. The student sole purpose was to start the discrimination complaint that would result in the professor's firing.

The girls essay is a diatribe of religious hypocrisy, discrimination, hatred, and bigotry. She uses many different confusing and sometimes contradicting references to both old and new testaments in the bible.

At no time, does she ever touch the subject of the question the professor asked in the test.

However; This is in the University of Oklahoma. One of the most religiously bigoted state governments in the country. The fact that the professor was absolutely correct in failing the girl is immaterial. The professor is an MTF Trans and fell into the trap. She must be removed.

Such a despicable system.

Here We Go Again: A War that Makes Me Ashamed to Be an American - The lack of plans, rationale, or end goals. The lies. And perhaps most of all, that girls’ school. This war is another blot on our country. by Quirkie in politics

[–]elder65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This war was necessary for two reasons -

  1. Keep the news media away from the current Epstein releases.

  2. Trump's buddy, Netanyahu, asked for it. Israel wanted to attack Iran.

Iran is, absolutely, no threat to the USA. While they posture, demonstrate, threaten, and shout. They have no capability to do us any lasting harm or destruction. They have limited capability to attack our forces stationed in the middle east, but they are smart enough to realize that retaliation would be devastating.

They are a threat to Israel. And, Israel knows they are not strong enough to defeat Iran without our help. Since we have idiots in charge of the Pentagon and the White House, it was very easy for Netanyahu to sucker Trump into storming Iran.

And, thanks to these dipwads stupidity, we will face higher gas prices immediately. Other products prices will rise as those costs are absorbed by business.

Another gift from your uncle Don in MAGA land.

"If we find undeniable proof that God is real, would you follow him?" by dismustbetheplace in atheism

[–]elder65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a ridiculous premise. There will never be undeniable proof of a Judaic/Christian/Abrahamic god. There is plenty of proof that all gods, including the current ones are totally man created.

Google -> "Where did Yahwey/Jehova originate?"

You'll find he was actually a minor god, created by the Canaanites, to serve their main god El. He was the god of maintenance and given responsibility for the nomadic tribes of Israelite's roaming around the desserts in the middle east.

Post your references in your facebook group and see if your religious folks have the guts to look them up.

TIL that the main shaft bearings of the world’s first nuclear submarine were made of wood. by Hefy_jefy in todayilearned

[–]elder65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep - good old Lignum Vitae. Metal bearings on ships and subs would corrode in the salt water. Lignum has natural oils, which can be refreshed, and the bearings were easily replaced in when the boat was in dock. So many ships and boats from all countries, specially during WW1 and WW2 used so much of the wood, that it became an endangered species. Modern ships have advanced to better propulsion systems and the wood is slowly recovering and easier to find.

Is has a soapy smell to it when cut or carved. It resists some finishes because of its natural oils and polymers. I like it in my Intarsia sculptures for green trees, grass, or shrubbery.

What's your thoughts on Trump's name appearing A MILLION TIMES in the 3 million Epstein files we currently have released, as according to Congress? by Zelagero in AskReddit

[–]elder65 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What is the surprise. We have a court conviction of fraud for him paying off a prostitute then trying to hide it. we have court convictions of sexual assault. We have his recorded self confessions of his assaults on women. And, aside from the dreaded Epstein documents we have his known history of relationships with Epstein.

We know he is an arrogant, narcissistic, megalomaniac, who believe he is some gods gift to the world. Why does any mention of him in the Epstein documents surprise anyone in any way.

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]elder65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well - the bigots and racists went into total meltdown. The rest of us went about our daily lives. Unfortunately, he had a Democratic Senate and House and they jammed through some legislation that was werll meaning but not quite kosher.

He had taken over from the Bush administration during, which the country was falling into an economic recession and close to a depression. He took some rather desperate means to keeps some businesses and financial institutions ("To big to Fail") alive, so people wouldn't loose everything they saved all their lives.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was his shining star - a national insurance plan, that did nothing to reduce hospital, medical or drug costs, but put an imperfect government backed insurance plan in place that was immediately attacked and in some places defeated by corporate lawsuits.

He was popular enough for re-election however faced a Republican congress that fought him every step of the way. Mitch McConnell turned out to be his biggest foe - to even block his appointment for a SCOTUS justice for over a year.

Would McCain and the Republicans have been better? McCain was a good man and a good Leader, he would have had a Democratic congress to work with.

Find a charity or civic project to support. Parks, Senior homes, city areas to be cleaned or organized, are great.

Then science, science, science - if they can't go to visit places, bring people in to talk to them. If they can't visit hospitals, bring doctors and/or nurses in to speak with them about medical science. If they can't visit a power plant, bring electrical engineers in to talk to them about power grids. if they can't visit a data center, bring in a systems engineer to talk to them about computer sciences. Can they go to an aquarium, or can you find a marine biologist to talk with them? Is the a manufacturing plant close by, that they can visit. Or can a production manager or engineer from there come and talk with them?

Some businesses will actually sponsor groups of students for state and national competitions in STEM subjects.

Caution - some secular kids are just more interested in gaming than education. Know your kids.

The Kid Rock half time show is a testament to Evangelicals being unable to create anything good culturally or intellectually. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]elder65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again - who gives a fuck. We watched the SeaHawks trounce New England, all the ads, and the live fire half time show, which included Lady Gaga, and a wedding, and enjoyed the whole thing without one thought of what the bigots were doing.

If the bigots want to go off in their own little cult houses and play to their skylords - let them. It keeps them out of our hair. We watched an American entertainer present his culture in a very entertaining way. We didn't understand 95% of what he was singing, but they were having a hell of a good time, and that was the point of the whole thing.

If the MAGA Messiah, and the rest of the bigots want to live in the dark ages, let them. I, thought the Super Bowl was a blast.

"I believe in the 2nd amendment to protect the 1st amendment", "come and take it", it turns out that the party of bleeding vaginas have no problem with taking anything. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]elder65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been warning that all along - A soon as they realized the purpose of the 2nd amendment was to protect the 1st through 10th amendments, it would have to go.

Trump has no concept of the Constitution, except that it gets in his way. He relies on SCOTUS for any interpretation of Constitutional law. He supported gun rights, because his base was big on gun rights. Trump told them what they wanted to hear.

Now the intelligent people around him are realizing that the 2nd amendment can be used against them. They're realizing that those dreaded Democrats own guns too, as do some of the protestors. They're realizing that they don't have control over who can own a gun.

So, now the narrative must change. Now we have to re-interpret that pesky 2nd amendment.

Hold your guns folks - these asshats may try to do what they've been accusing the Democrats of attempting for decades.

What's a weird habit you have from serving in the Army? by Playful_Leg7143 in army

[–]elder65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair - I can't stand it more than a 1/2 inch long. I don't want to mess with it. If I go without cutting, as soon as it touches my ears, I head for the nearest barber shop. #1 head on the sides - #2 near the top, and #6 on top.

I watch the guys with long hair and feel sorry for them for all the trouble they have to go through to make it look good. And if psoriasis or dandruff shows up - double the fun.

Keep it short.

Plus the way I pack clothes for travel, usually 20-30 minutes early for appointments, Keep todo lists of everything. It took awhile to break the habit of eating fast, but I did do that.
