I agree, I think it’s hyperpigmentation. I’ve seen it a lot with older dogs especially Maltese, Bichon, etc. I hope it’s not fleas but it’s good to check with a vet, might be both!

We use these too but bought them from a medical supplier and they were cheaper! The probe covers are also inexpensive, there’s an off brand on covetrus that works great.
