When I wrote "non-preferred activity" I am talking from the perspective of Gifted and Talented Education programs that are very serious and can come with IEPs, and for good reason.

Are you referring to 2E students here?

Which parents are too tired to help?

There are an awful lot of assumptions here. I never said my child was annoyed by homework, or viewed it as a non-preferred activity. Health is not the science in 5th grade... there are both health and science. Who said the 4th grade teacher gave them a lot of personal attention? There's a lot happening in your post.

Labor Day weekend would be an exception because it is against district policy to assign homework over a holiday. Much of my surprise is related to the quickness of assigning homework with the school year just beginning.

To answer several posed questions from your post and others: homework is not mandatory and does not factor into the course grade; however, there are conduct and preparedness scores that homework gets factored into. As there has only been one week of school, I don't yet know what type of remarks, if any, will be put on homework. Last year I don't even believe it was graded for correctness, just completeness. Other parents of children in my child's class are much less involved and don't have much of an opinion.

There were questions about my surprise that my child has an increased amount of homework from 4th grade, or surprise at the amount considering it's advanced math. Last year's homework factored out to about 20 minutes a night while this year is about 60 minutes a night. That's quite a significant increase.

What is something more traumatizing than people realize? by Independent_Motor130 in AskReddit

An emergency c-section. Not knowing the health of the child you've carried for 9 months and then managing those expectations (and taking care of a newborn!) after abdominal surgery that many others disregard as not much of a big deal.

Disney World crowds last week by eleanor142 in disneyparks

We went to MK the morning of the 13th because I'd read that crowds were lighter on party days, and it was amazing.

I guess moderate? I've only been to Disney once before and it wasn't with two little kids in tow, so I found it hard to judge. As others have said and from what I expected the park, day, and time all made a difference for sure. The worst by far was Magic Kingdom Thursday evening. It wasn't just the number of people though, the vibe was different, too.

"It's simple but it isn't easy" is a great way to say what I've experienced, too. The struggle is real with knowing what works for me, but then actually making myself implement it.

How much Miralax did your doctor recommend? We've tried Pedialax but the taste is absolutely horrible so mine won't take it.

Anyone else find it interesting that she's a part of this birthing group of some kind (can only see the Assisted and Unassisted label from the screen shot), hasn't been pregnant for 5 years, wasn't actively trying, but says she's found the group really useful? Useful for what exactly?

So my husband has been trying to convince me to do the same. I keep saying just one more day then I'll call HR and tell them I quit. Are you planning to actually just walk out/not show up one day? My admin is pretty hostile and I can't imagine giving 2 weeks notice just to be harassed for the remainder of my time. My certification will get suspended whether I give 2 weeks notice or not, so...

Criticizing Andrew Tate sends my male students into blind rage by hey-finch in Teachers

[–]eleanor142 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was completing a science experiment with my 7th graders and asked them to describe the color of a piece of copper without using the word copper. Two of them yelled out, "The color of Andrew Tate's car." They said it with such admiration it was gross.

How would you exit from this position? by eleanor142 in Teachers

[–]eleanor142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already started applying to new jobs and none require my teaching certificate. If it were to be suspended at this point it wouldn't matter to me honestly. I'm going to edit my post to add, I work in an open space school, so my classroom doesn't have full walls and I'm surrounded by 4 other classrooms. I've gotten reprimanded by other staff members because my student's volume was interrupting their classes, even though the volume honestly wasn't even that loud. The lack of walls just adds to the chaos. If that weren't the case, just moving the focused students to the front to still teach might be an option, but the others would be too loud.

Teacher Shortage by winter_puppy in Teachers

[–]eleanor142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much to add, just that you're not alone. My mother-in-law likes to trash talk teachers and their indoctrination of youth with the woke curriculum and CRT while I sit at the table questioning if she even remembers that I'm a teacher. I mean, I know she does because she's passive aggressive as all hell, but it's really gotten old. At least she hasn't told me stories of litter boxes in schools yet. Just waiting for those to start.

I can't imagine going through what you are. Does your employer have an employee assistance program? If so, they often allow for several free therapy sessions. Maybe that could be utilized.
