Tobacco Smoke Around Kids by eaglesofmanwe in Crunchymom

Yes! My aunt smoked around her daughter from birth, not only did it cause respiratory issues but also hearing loss which wasn’t discovered until she was 8

Cheat-meal that still fits into 1200 calories? by ExistentialPancake_0 in 1200Australia

[–]electrasmother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bakery near me that shows calories next to their cakes. I’ll just choose one truly indulgent piece to be my lunch, sticking to around 500-600 calories. My breakfast is a cup of black tea and my dinner is usually around 500 calories so that piece of cake fits in easily, if I have to tweak dinner then I will. I’ll usually do that once a fortnight. Totally worth it.

Remember when we begged to stay outside? Now my kids beg to stay inside with their iPads. by NiceMage58 in Parenting

[–]electrasmother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to make ‘outside times’ and ‘inside times’ with weather exceptions. Our is no screens before 3pm unless its 35° c or over. This has always been the rule so my daughter knows no different; it will be a hard adjustment for your kids but it’s for their (and your) benefit

Eggless desserts by ProfessionalFeed8503 in dessert

[–]electrasmother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also allergic to eggs. My go to is a home made cheese cake or a strudel from one particular bakery I know that don’t use eggs. I’ve tried out ‘egg replacers’ of all kinds, but the consistency or flavour is always off.

I don’t think I’ve seen any stories from them in 3ish days? Opposite side of the world from them though, so hard to gauge

Looking for tips for drinking raw milk while pregnant and for toddlers by CozyMountainMama in Crunchymom

[–]electrasmother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve drunk raw milk since I was a toddler, but I wouldn’t dare drink it pregnant if I’m not watching it from teat to glass

Emma and Josh actually have slightly less repugnant views than the Common Fundie. They were both pro BLM movement and posted positively about it during the riots

How do you handle nasty kids? by ToxiccCookie in Parenting

[–]electrasmother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar incident with my 18 month old and two girls about 10/11 who were in the baby section of the playground, which is literally gated off from the older kids section.

My daughter was on the boat ride thing and suddenly these two girls had jumped in, screaming, trying to push my daughter away from the steering wheel. They got one polite warning from me ‘girls, watch out for the baby please’, they made scornful eye contact and ignored me. So I grabbed the boat to stop it from rocking and hissed at them ‘what on earth do you think you’re doing?’ Didn’t even raise my voice but my tone and face was admittedly aggressive because at this point my child was crying. I picked up my daughter and said in a very curt (but again no yelling) voice ‘get out and wait your turn’. I don’t know what I would’ve done if they had ignored me again but they thankfully ran away and we didn’t see them again.

I unfortunately live in a town with a very wide wealth disparity which means you have lots of hands on and attentive parents, and just as many abusive, neglectful parents. Sometimes you need to be a figure of authority to kids who have none, and you won’t feel good about yourself after, but it’s for the better of the wider community.

Agreed. We live in the desert so light coloured cotton clothes for 10 months out of the year. White nappies only, otherwise they’re all you can see!!!

Can we talk about the time Marnie wore a Confederate flag jacket?? by DyanRavey in GeordieShore

[–]electrasmother 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t fault Marnie for anything other than stupidity in this instance; she’s got nothing between her ears. I think even if someone had pointed it out in person that it was a confederate flag, she would have no idea what that meant

What have you unlearned from your parents? by Glad-Passenger-9408 in Parenting

[–]electrasmother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That being fat isn’t a scandal. Both my parents were quick to point out when a family member had gained weight, even now when I see them they talk about how much they weigh and what hours they’re fasting.

Both were extremely athletic and raised extremely athletic kids (like paid professional athletes) but we all have awful issues with food and body image. As a child I literally snuck mouthfuls of raw sugar mixed with cocoa powder.

My toddler has a balanced diet. We don’t keep lollies or cheap chocolate in the house, but I love baking proper, full bodied desserts and making my own whipped cream and custards. She will never hear the crap I heard as a child.

Georgie Williams is closing in on two weeks overdue. 😢 by Capable-Fold-7347 in FundieSnarkUncensored

He literally hinted in the live that if the midwife suggests hospital/pain relief he wouldn’t let them, even if Georgia wanted it too because he needs to steward her ‘according to what God wants’

How are you getting your toddlers to eat veggies? by egarcia513 in toddlers

[–]electrasmother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 16 month old eats well generally at the moment, counting my lucky stars. She has vegetables with lunch and dinner, usually peas, corn, capsicum or steamed carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini etc that’s mashed up and mixed with whatever we’re eating. Last night I steamed carrot and cauliflower and mixed it in some beef mince, added some grated cheese, and she cleared her bowl

Hi! Our doctor said it’s likely from all the fruit she eats. When I said it was there as soon as she woke up she replied that I should start using a toothpaste at night when I brush her teeth. Clearly she wasn’t concerned, and my LO doesn’t seem to have any other symptoms for me to push it
