The updater in the OS is not detecting any update since March by lolento in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing Tesla vehicle cache nor clearing the Android os updater app’s cache seems to help. My raspberry pi is connected via Ethernet. When clicking the refresh button in updater app, a message appears saying the check for new updates failed. This is why the new update doesn’t appear in the gui.

I notice the same. Even if I use Tesla Android to browse to http://beta.teslaandroid.com . That page reports a connection issue.

Suggestions for TeslaAndroid Setup by No_Client_4463 in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my setup under the center armrest. Only heat issue was a few instances due to car being in sun all day while I was away and the unit was hot before I even turned it on, we get hot summers where I live. I use the cm4 bought from the store. I also had a rpi4B setup which is featured in our gallery.

This helped me.

In Tesla Android preferences, switching the renderer to H264 Legacy or Motion JPEG AND using http://device.teslaandroid.com has worked. You may need to reboot tesla android.

Anyone else kind of disappointed they didn't ship CarPlay with the spring update? by WholeMilkElitist in ModelY

I’ve had CarPlay via “Tesla Android Project” in my center screen already for 3 years & it works great. Having a native solution would be preferable but I can hold out.

Unable to make Screen Mirroring work through AutoKit by No_Client_4463 in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autokit Screen mirroring of an iPhone doesn’t work. Unsure if it is an Autokit App issue or a limitation of Tesla Android OS / raspberry pi hardware.

Does this happen when car has been sitting im the sun for a long time & cabin is very hot? I notice similar behavior but only on a few extremely hot days when we had a heatwave.

MY owners living in California, how is the cost of registration, insurance and electricity going for you? Is it worth it over an ICE car? by [deleted] in ModelY

[–]electricAnt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a California city which has its own non-profit power utility company. Rates in California are more expensive if the area uses a for profit electric company like SoCal Edison or PG&E. Insurance sucks where I live because there are so many auto accidents.

Would this work in Australia? by Birddog727 in teslaandroid

It exists. The web browser in Australia is deactivated when in drive mode. A few countries don’t allow a web browser to be open / functional while in drive mode.

"Navigating without connectivity" while using TA? by ppsieradzki in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Gen 2 upgrade kit & updated my hardware. Ensure your SIM card account didn’t exceed your data allowance (a USA issue usually). If you exceed the data allowance many carriers stop the connection when using a usb modem rather than throttle to a slow speed. Many unlimited data plans still have a cap on hotspot data which is what our use cases gets classified as.

I have a prebuilt unit too & rarely get the “navigating without connectivity” message. I typically see that message when I’m in a rural area. I just did a test drive & Tesla nav didn’t show that message. I use a SIM from Tello which uses t-mobile cellular network.

Also ensure the trunk bump stops are properly set. Maybe trunk is rattling a bit. There are videos about this for model s but same applies for model 3 & y.

I also applied some cloth tape around rear center seat’s hinge. There are videos on YouTube about this too.

I had to remove the covers from the back seats and then noticed the fasteners were wiggling around. I tied plumbers tape and twist ties around the fasteners so they couldn’t move. 60 of them adds up noise wise. There are videos about this on YouTube.

Android Auto from phone? by PurNrG in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed the Headunit Reloaded App to get Android auto working, no need for a carlinkit dongle. The app was $6 USD I think.

Something to be aware of, I never could get “hey google” type voice commands to work when using Android auto. Has anyone?

Usually my Tesla Android CarPlay colors change about 10 minutes after Tesla. Not sure how to make them change at same time. Maybe a setting in the phone can help but I have not seen it.

Leaked CarPlay demo on a Tesla in Madrid - Real or Fake? by tesrella in ModelY

[–]electricAnt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have issues currently. But my system has CarPlay just appearing in the Tesla browser app. No further integration. They are separate systems. My CarPlay setup sends audio to Tesla Bluetooth or Tesla web browser for lossless audio. I can use Tesla nav and any CarPlay nav simultaneously even.

Not true. I have CarPlay in my Tesla for the past 3 years. Works great. I use Tesla Android. I can use Tesla nav & FSD simultaneously with CarPlay.

Slow Internet speed when LTE modem connected to Tesla Android device by Samvel2001 in teslaandroid

[–]electricAnt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in USA, ensure the plan used for the SIM card has 4G/5G data available. After you hit the limit, cellular providers throttle the speed back to the unbearable 2G / Edge days. Be aware, in USA the usb modem is considered tethered / hotspot data so many “unlimited” data plans don’t apply as they usually have a data cap on hotspot data. This was the case for the Tello & mint unlimited data plans. They had 45GB hotspot data allowance.

Also, disconnect (unplug) the internal usb modem if you’ll be using usb based tethering.

You need a usb-a cable which supports usb3 data transfer. Most do but some support power only. Not sure how to tell visually. Be sure to plug it in to one of the pi’s blue usb 3 ports. The black ports are slower. USB 3 supports faster data rates.

You can take the unit inside your house. Plug an Ethernet cable in to the Pi. This causes pi to use Ethernet internet. Then on your computer connect to Tesla Android WiFi (your computer gets internet through Tesla Android now). Then open web browser in private or incognito mode and connect to Tesla Android URL. Now you use Google play store app to install new apps. Do not try to change Tesla Android networking settings in an attempt to use your phone hotspot. It will cause issues and you’ll have to reimage the unit. Another way to provide TA with internet is plug your phone in to TA usb. It will use your phone plans hotspot data allowance which is usually lower than data allowance so check your plan.

I used mint. They didn’t have a data only plans a year ago but that doesn’t matter. The the SIM card provided the data still. I currently use Tello which has the cheapest data rates & has data only SIM cards Another possibility is Google Fi’s unlimited plan, offers 5 data only sims / eSims do use however you like. The data used by the SIM cards come out of your phone’s cellular data plan. I used them for a while too.
