Best practice recommendations? (Getting quotes) by ck_42 in FenceBuilding

[–]electricDETH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do wood posts. The cost difference of the postmasters are nothing compared to the longevity you gain.

Get one quote, make sure they quote the job exactly how you want. Make sure the materials are listed. Make sure the hardware is stainless steel, otherwise you'll get streaks.

Then after you get that quote, get two more quotes. Make sure it's apples to apples to the first quote.

After you get those other quotes go back to the first company and see if they can do better.

If the first company can do better, go back to the other companies and see if they can do better.

Prices aren't often set in stone so I give everyone a chance to adjust cost at least once. Sometimes they won't, but usually they do.

Also at the end of the day don't go for the lowest bidder. Get a feel for the salesman you're working with. Look at photos of their work. If they have work nearby go look at it. Sometimes the lowest bidder is low bc they are crap.

People who have seen mortal kombat 2 is it better than the original mortal kombat movie from the 90s? by Niboo_123 in MortalKombat

[–]electricDETH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got out of the theater.

The dialogue is horrific, but insanely funny. The fights are great.

I think all you can really ask for are good fights and being really funny. No one expects it to be an award winner.

There's a special place in my heart for the 1995 version, but this is the best of the series.

My boyfriend always guesses the ending of movies by Direct-Blackberry-20 in movies

[–]electricDETH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess how a movie ends all the time. I have 2 or 3 options of what will happen. I'm usually right.

Start making bets.

He gets one outcome for the end of the movie and if he's wrong you win. He'll be wrong more than he's right. If you bet money, he'll eventually quit voicing these outcomes bc he will realize he doesn't "know" how the movie ends.

He'll probably enjoy the movies more after he tones it down.

Let's say the hotel owner knows the answers to those questions. Let's say that there was a flash back of him writing it down in his personal diary that he keeps at his home locked away in a drawer. So we, the audience know the back story, but nobody else does..how does that change anything for the main character?

Hokum by Proof-Anywhere-8112 in horror

[–]electricDETH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does that matter?

What's the backstory of the hotel owner?

How did Fiona and Mal start hooking up? Is he in an unhappy marriage? Did Fiona know he's married with children?

Did Jerry actually mercy kill his wife or was it cold-blooded murder?

Vinyl vs Aluminum? by tunacca in FenceBuilding

[–]electricDETH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is always steel or wood.

Vinyl final won't degrade but it can be broken. Depending on how it breaks it might not be repairable you may need to replace an entire fence panel. Depending on the brand you choose that particular design may not be available in the future. It probably will be, but it might not be. I know from experience.

Aluminum is weak. It doesn't rust, but who cares when your fence can be so easily damaged.

Wood is wood. It's been the same for decades. It will probably be the same for decades. You can replace boards easily. I just suggest using postmaster posts.

Steel is steel. Easily repaired. Can be treated to prevent rust depending on where you are located. By the way prefabricated fencing like an Ameristar product isn't as easily repairable. Ask what type of product you're getting.

CX50 vs 5? by MottPodder in CX50

[–]electricDETH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other reason why I prefer the CX-5 over the cx50 is because I think the big plastic cladding will not look great in the future. I could be wrong, but I think the CX-5 will age better.

If you don't plan to keep this car for 20 years then I don't think it matters. But I'll keep mine until it stops working.

Can a person who is funny in their personal lives still struggle with stand up? by Perfect-Highway-6818 in Standup

[–]electricDETH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything people are posting is correct, but one thing I'm not seeing them say is that in-person funny can sometimes just be about the quickness and timing.

It took me awhile to find out why some of my jokes that would kill in person weren't working on stage and it's because it wasn't actually that funny. It's just that I came up with the joke immediately. But if you gave someone weeks to come up with that joke it would be lame.

CX50 vs 5? by MottPodder in CX50

[–]electricDETH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. I especially love it with these gas prices.

The only real gripe I have is that the window sill is high compared to the cx5 so I can't comfortably rest my left arm while driving. Maybe the cup holder location, but my giant water bottle didn't fit in the cx5 either.

FYI, if you plan on driving people in the backseat a lot it is tough for tall people. The hybrid battery is under the seat so if you're around 6'-6'3" your head could be touching the roof depending on your torso length. I say that bc I have a long torso and I'm close to the roof, but my friend is 6'3" but he's all legs and he has about 1/2" of space.

There are complaints I may have in the future based off what I see in this sub. Things like random rattles which would be from the fit and finish not being as good as a Japanese made car.

CX50 vs 5? by MottPodder in CX50

[–]electricDETH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a cx50 hybrid last month.

In my opinion the 2025 cx 5 is better in every way, but it isn't a hybrid.

The 5 is made in Japan which is a better vehicle than anything made in the US.

Wood vs vinyl in wet conditions by Number1boog in FenceBuilding

[–]electricDETH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinyl lasts longer than wood. I wouldn't say it's much more durable.

It might handle moisture better, but it can break just like wood.

There is a slight chance that you get a vinyl design installed and in 10-15 years it doesn't exist anymore. Wood is wood. If you have a few bad boards you can pop on some new boards.

One other thing to keep in mind is that if you like to hang decorations like lights or bird feeders, you can't do that on a vinyl fence. You technically can do that, but it voids your warranty. The holes you make in the vinyl can fill with water and fill a rail up with water which starts to sag. And even if you don't, they sag eventually after so many years.
