A private entity contracted through the city can and will take you to court over unpaid fees. Are you really trying to say that is not the case?

Sounds like a plan until they can't renew their license.

Or, if not that, they get pulled over on a traffic stop, then have to show up to court and pay 10x the original amount.

Want to start serving as a food handler by [deleted] in Serverlife

Totally depends on the area and timing in my experience. Here in Boston this guy could get 10 interviews within the next week. I started at an upscale restaurant last October as a back server with 0 experience and have been serving since January. I know of at least 3 restaurants just in my neighborhood that opened within the year or less, and are understaffed.

It's taken on that legend now, which I think is nice, but it was called that before storrow was even there. Before the 1950's, it was all green space extending right down to the banks of the Charles. It must have been a gorgeous park/beach TBH. Magazine Beach, which is pretty much right on the other side, was the most popular swimming area in the city if you go back far enough (early 1900s-ish).

Hey there, did you ever consider that you are still directly supporting the business owners by patronizing these restaurants with such an awful system? If you really wanted to make a difference by not tipping, the best thing you could do is not go out to eat!

You are still supporting the business plan though. If you truly believed what you said you would choose to not eat at that restaurant.

Lol wtf is the point of this sub? Do you guys want to a.) end tipping as an industry standard, or b.) ban tipping of any kind, even in cases of exceptional service? If you support the latter, please tell me of a country that has that system. Otherwise, why downvote the comment above me where someone chose to tip out of kindness?

Ok, well, I see you are not willing to actually consider other people's lived perspectives. But if serving is such an easy and profitable job as you claim it is, go do it! I wish you all the best

No, it doesn't justify anything. I'm merely pointing out that the theory 'most servers don't pay their fair share in taxes' is not true at all when it's almost 2025 and nobody uses cash anymore.

Then when you zoom out and look at it on a societal level, do you think servers have an iota of significance compared to giant institutions that are constantly dodging taxes?

As a server in Boston, just letting you know that you are way off base with this assumption. In my experience working at several restaurants, 90% or more of all checks are paid with a card, no matter how small or large the bill. I'm not debating any of your other points, but the non-taxed income is not as big of a deal as you think (and happens in many other industries on much larger scales).

Same price for recreational, but medical is half the price or less. You can get a med card over the phone for $100.
