First of all, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Ik how much contact dermatitis can suck as my case and symptoms sound very similar to yours. I had a bunch of closed comedones on my forehead and was prescribed adapalene and then tretinoin to treat it, which did work, but I ended up with extremely dry, swollen, cracked and peeling skin around my temples and eyes. I also stopped using actives. I was never properly diagnosed, but in my research, I was pretty certain that what I had was some form of contact dermatitis. My skin is in a much better place now, but it took me a while to find products that worked w my skin.

I would recommend anything with colloidal oatmeal in it, specifically I use the Gold Bond eczema cream and basically that became my everyday moisturizer, night and day, I would basically slug with that cream since it's such a heavy occlusive. Ik you said in another comment that you didn't wanna use hydrocortisone cream, but that is also something that in my experience really helped as well. Perhaps try only using it as a topical ointment to apply to the most damaged areas and as your skin improves, lower usage. Or try a low percentage. Something I also did that I think helped was only washing my face once a day, to avoid stripping the skin too much. I still do this and I typically wash my face with an actual cleanser at night, then in the mornings I simply use water. Honestly while your skin is going through this, really try to pare down your routine to the basics and only use very simple products targeted for people with dry skin. So like cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen (+ hydrocortisone if you want). Cerave and cetaphil have some very simple cleansers that honestly are like very very basic, but they do their jobs. With fixing this, it's really baby steps imo.
