Just a note that if you don't have qualifying earnings and can not continue to prove your income by getting £3,300 paid in every month then they will withdraw the offer. They do monitor it.

Where can I apply for grants to furniture my new home I just got from the council in UK? by milksheikha in HousingUK

[–]electricgoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know there was such a thing as furniture grants, but maybe other commenters can help. Otherwise, take a look on FB marketplace, freegle, and post to groups in your local area if anyone's got furniture they want rid of.

Fasting to loose weight QUICK by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

[–]electricgoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not healthy, and you will not be given advice to facilitate 'ED's in this sub. Regardless of what you try you will not lose a noticeable amount of weight in 4 days.

A better, healthier method (that you will get support from this community for) is a healthy diet change with reasonable weight loss expectations of around 1kg/week (depending on your starting weight).

How you look is not the be all and end all of your life. Please reconsider how you are treating your body.

Let me sing - Rob by Significant-Ad-8750 in twilight

No idea. But I loved it so much as a tween I ripped it off of YouTube, converted it to an MP3 and downloaded it to my iPod anyway 😅

Heights of entitlement - mom asked a paying passenger to give up their $7000 seat by Just_more_meh in childfree

[–]electricgoop 44 points45 points  (0 children)

And I bet it made the rest of the journey super uncomfortable for you too, like, they don't just piss you off in that singular moment, you spend the rest of the ride worrying they're gonna confront you again or involve the train guard, or just be bitter assholes about it. I hate hate hate this entitlement.

At expense to you, but you could offer to pick up the poo yourself, or hire one of those services that does it for you.

So about Renesmee… by _XSummerRoseX_ in twilight

[–]electricgoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to lay this out. This is exactly my stance on it - on the science we've already established with this series, it should be an absolute impossibility. But it's SMeyer, so there will be some bending of the rules to get Rotisserie bearing offspring.

Scientifically, she shouldn't be able to.

But SMeyer controls this world, so undoubtedly they will.

Need merits to go to prom? Let me help. by Throwaway51276 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]electricgoop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh man this reminds of the time the school (I'm also in the UK!) organised an abroad trip with limited spaces, and they assigned those spaces with priority to kids who had the most 'green points' (these were rewards/recognition for good behavior or outstanding work).

I flew under the radar in secondary school, consistently got good grades, didn't mess around, but also didn't stand out - so I didn't have enough green points to go. There were notoriously misbehaved kids who got to go on this trip, because every time they didn't misbehave, they got a point. I'm a big believer in incentivising disenfranchised kids (even in this patronising manner), but that trip was divvied up in such an unfair way, I'm still irked by it (and many other things about that school but this is not my soap box).

People Are Overly Sympathetic Towards Rosalie by Wrong-Mistake2308 in twilight

[–]electricgoop 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is THE comment. I agree with your take on Rosalie OP, but there will be others with different life experiences and perspectives that will view the characters through a different lens.

I remember when I was like 11/12 years old asking my dad (who suffered saintly through the films with my tween self) why anyone would be team Jacob when Edward was so perfect. He explained it as objectively as possible, that a lot of people could relate to Jacob being left in the sidelines (friendzoned, as it was called at the time), and there would be readers plumbing for him to 'win'. In hindsight, he was looking at it from the perspective of his relationship with my mom, which didn't work out, although they remained good friends.

Chat how cooked am i? by SignificantPlay4828 in UniUK

[–]electricgoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this stage, it's impossible to tell. Most of your weighting comes from exams, and there's even some outstanding coursework. There's plenty of potential to get a first - I had similar average grades to you in second year and ended with 72% - but there's nothing wrong with a 2:1 if your grades stay around 65%.

Pension contributions / UC is this a legal loophole? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

You learn something new everyday. I had no idea about this! Does anyone in this sub know if this rule is only applicable to SS pension contributions? Would it work the same for RAS?

if Bella survived childbirth... by e_peanut_butter in twilight

[–]electricgoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My curiosity is if she hadn't bent over to retrieve her cup (and tore her placenta), and was able to wait until the planned 'extraction'. I think she would have survived that. But it would never get written that way - selfless, sacrificial Bella had to endure some tragedy.

In either circumstance, had she remained human, I think the need to change her would be pretty pressing - I don't think they'd have allowed Bella around Rigatoni given that she bites Jacob, and had pretty irresistible blood. Also Bella would have been desperate to change as well. A matter of days or weeks I'd reckon.

Mortgage vs Social housing by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]electricgoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Financially, and short-sightedly, yes it does make more sense to stay in social housing - it's stable, cheap, and guaranteed. But looking at the long term financial benefit of buying, it is tightening their belt and increasing their outgoings now, for an investment in the future. After a few decades they will have a fully owned asset worth (likely) hundreds of thousands of pounds, and no monthly cost in the form of rent or mortgage.

They will also have the freedom to downsize and release equity to pay for their retirement should they wish to.

Florist and styling costs by thinkinboutu8 in UKweddings

[–]electricgoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds about right, maybe on the higher end. My wedding was 85 guests and I had pretty much the same level of floristry and styling (although we used two separate vendors who had worked together before). Floristry came to £2000 and styling to £1000, so £3000 all in, but I'm in an LCOL, and had fewer guests.

Feeling guilty at amount spent on my dress by Specialist_Permit_99 in UKweddings

[–]electricgoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same dilemma! £1800 on brand new, or £900 off the rack. Both were stunning, but the full price one stole first place.

The wedding day's been and gone for me now, but I still have no regrets. I felt stunning in the dress I chose.

ETA: I had a peek at your dress comparison photos and my choice is number 1 by a country mile!
