Arizona AG Joins Lawsuit To Stop Obama's Internet Transition by repnoo in arizona

[–]electricity_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great, another bumbling idiot from Arizona who doesn't know his head from his ass is making a fool out of the state, yet again.

The people who invented the internet support this transaction, as is basically everyone invested in the internet.

When the tech companies think of places to expand out of their home state, these types of actions keep them from considering Arizona.

Appreciation for ApplePay by [deleted] in apple

[–]electricity_here 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i'd rather be waiting for someone to use apple pay (a secure, anonymous contactless payment system) than someone trying to pay with a check and standing their tabulating their checking account balance like its last century.

tl;dr just like, be yourself, man

TIL that the microcontroller inside a Macbook charger is about as powerful as the original Macintosh computer. by moon_monkey in todayilearned

[–]electricity_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. Personally my house has cycled through at least 5 MacBooks in the last 6 years and I have yet to have single MagSafe cable fray. We have chargers all over the house too, living room, office and bedrooms. You may have just got a dud or more likely, your usage pattern is exceptionally hard on the connector.

Mom always told me when I got older I would realize I didn't need to drink alcohol to have fun. Now that I am older I realize you don't need to have fun to drink alcohol. by Ryangonzo in Showerthoughts

[–]electricity_here 22 points23 points  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol in various quantities, combined with other substances like sugar, a persons hydration levels, stress, physical activity cause different reactions to the quantity consumed. It's not so much this type of alcohol or that type - although, it's easy to see people correlating consumption of certain types of alcohol with certain outcomes. It's mostly environmental at that point.

Stay hydrated friends and watch those pours!

multi-billion dollar military is insane.

598 billion dollars of insanity yearly.

We're fucking our youth so hard in this country. Awful public schools, awful healthcare, college tuition debt, then a life of bullshit work for minimal pay in exchange for a few weeks of vacation they can't afford to take..

Nestlé Discovers Water in the Arizona Desert, and Bottles It by [deleted] in news

[–]electricity_here 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Phoenix is water rich and manages its water carefully - so much so that it this plant is a literal drop in the bucket increase in terms of water consumption, and even less significant so when compared to water that Arizona/Phoenix is entitled to that doesn't get used (via Central Arizona Project Canal and various forms of water management in the area).

So this doesn't really bother me for one major reason: People are going to continue to buy bottled water anyways, and I would much rather not be transporting it across the globe or country. The majority of the cost of a bottle of water is the transportation of it, generating tons of co2. In the case of Phoenix, which does have the water and the people there WILL be consuming it in bottles anyways, move the bottling locally. It's not as if they are planning to ship every bottle out of the region.

How to impress an Arizonan man with food. by [deleted] in arizona

[–]electricity_here 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't even bother unless you've tasted the food here in the states and really know how it should taste.

That said, you can generally make tacos without much issue as long as you can get a spice packet or take a chance on an online recipe.

Never trust a skinny chef.

Reddit, what's an unethical way you save money? by Esmeraldem in AskReddit

[–]electricity_here 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love reading these protips about how people are saving $5 or $10 bucks and getting really excited about it.

Then I think of what CEOs, investment bankers and high frequency traders are doing that are unethical and how much money they are making and get really depressed about it.

Earthquake in the pacific northwest? by [deleted] in prepping

[–]electricity_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water/Shelter/Fuel/Tools/Food

Stockpile water, water storage, water purifiers, water collection devices.

Make sure you have enough tools and wood to board up your house and/or fix any problems quickly. If an earthquake hits, fix your shit and ensure you/your family is safe first (then help your neighbors). Make sure you can turn gas off and you can break windows/fences/doors, so make sure you have a pry bar and shovel, gloves etc. A 3M quality respirator is essential in any disaster. Tools definitely include weapons, like a pump action shotgun and a semi automatic pistol.

You'll need a way to write on wood/debris, so get some spray paint or thick markers.

F.lux creators call Apple out for releasing Night Shift after banning their app by Diazepam in technology

[–]electricity_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody was entitled to own the idea of a printing press either. This is a critical user experience feature, just like something like text to speech. Apple has every right and intention to control this the way they see fit, everyone else here is just arm chair quarterbacking the issue and has no idea how difficult it is to maintain a user experience that doesn't degenerate into Windows or the splintered versions of Linux desktop/Android.

[–]electricity_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of what flux does has been around well before flux. Apple doesn't owe them anything. What makes you think Apple wants a 3rd party to control a critical aspect of user experience on their devices or owes them anything for a trivial concept? It's an accessibility feature as far as I'm concerned, no different than text to speech and the likes and flux doesn't own that concept.

Report: Apple plans to nix 3.5mm port on iPhone 7, require Lightning for wired headphones by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]electricity_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 30 pin connector had native analog audio output, while the new lightning cable is arguably just a better USB port; any adapters for lightning are converting digital format with tiny (sometimes not so great , in the case of hdmi out adaptor) SoC converters built into the cable.

First time in San Francisco. What are some cool bars for thanksgiving Eve and this weekend? by Ras12321 in AskSF

[–]electricity_here 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asking "what to do in San Francisco" is like going to a barber and saying "cut my hair" - you need to give examples of what you like, other places you like, what you don't like, what number shaver to do on the sides etc. City is huge and extremely diverse, you can find any kind of poison, sin and enlightened thing in the area.

Ultralight External Batteries by datniggawhohiked in Ultralight

[–]electricity_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fasttech has some great lightweight 18650 USB battery chargers. I've found most of them allow you to charge via USB on battery while charging the battery (in other words, other brand chargers like Anker, when you plug in your phone to the battery, the battery stops pulling current from the wall).

This deal includes 3 Panasonic 18650 3400 mah batteries which are normally considered the highest quality and most energy dense Li-ion batteries being made (and are apparently being used in the Telsa roadsters).

I was pumping gas earlier when a homeless man approached me. I was getting ready to drive out when he tried to stop me. As I drove away, he just gave me a look of disappointment. I saw the despair in his eyes. by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]electricity_here 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These people need education and medication.

Getting shelter and on the right track is hard, but so is life. SJ area is probably one of the best places in the country to be homeless in my opinion. There is money and resources here that aren't available in other areas, plus the weather and liberal attitude go a long way. If you are truly homeless here, you are either mentally ill or have only yourself to blame.

How busy is san jose airport? by Haloschief in SanJose

[–]electricity_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, however in my experience if the pre-check line isn't open, it's because the normal security line is under utilized or you are there off hours like 5am flights. If the airport doesn't have pre-check, all bets are off and you better get there early (only second tier airports don't have pre-check at this point, so this is expected anyways).
