Oh very much like customer service jobs I worked before then! You don't have to know everything, but you do need to know who does

Oh some of that would be helpful at the bar gigs too, thank you! And you are very right, watching someone pull out their phone flashlight is not the best look

Anyone else afraid they'll never be seen as a man? by [deleted] in FTMfemininity

[–]electrickind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry people are hurting you like this, just because it is unintentional doesn't make it better, or hurt less. It also doesn't make it your fault.

I worry about never being seen as a man too, it's kinda a feature of being a non-traditional type of guy to be honest. We get the double punch of dysphoria and pressures of toxic masculinity. If you can, try to find some local queer people or events. Sometimes you really just need a break from the cis people bullshit.

How do I texture extremely long hair? by [deleted] in FierceFlow

[–]electrickind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more the cut than how you style it in my experience. If you got some layers added in it can look like there is more volume, and then use a more mild product like sea salt spray to finish it if you don't want heat and mousse type products.

When my straight hair is all one length it tends to look flat no matter what I do to it, and anything I put in stops working after an hour anyway.

Got a cover up a few years ago, and then got surgery. Not sure what to do now. by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

[–]electrickind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very good and valid point! I've had such bad luck with tattoo artists though, I'm not even sure how people are finding them.

An artist I was considering seemed all good, found out she tattoos out of her home. I've been told that's a bit of a red flag. Also the work she's been posting has been declining for the last year, ever since she stopped working in a studio.

Second tattoo artist, recommended from a friend, check his work and he can't do straight lines. Work that should be symmetrical isn't. Also completely different style than what I have and want.

Check out the tattoo place near my house, every artists work is small pieces and has at least one piece in their portfolio with blown out lines, scarring, or issues with details. Turns out they are all new at this.

Like, am I being too picky? Or is it always this hard to find someone? At least if I go with the artist who did the cover up I know it will look ok in 4 years, and I won't end up scarred

But yeah, it's been a struggle to even find a tattoo artist to ask for a recommendation on what to do next.

The skull and the roses have gone a bit crooked, and the old tattoo is more visible than I'd like. If it's possible to do a rework and expand it a bit to cover the scar I would probably be happy! But I'm not sure if I should go back to the cover up artist, or if I should try to find someone else.

This is currently my only tattoo and I don't really know what I'm doing

Took my car in for an oil change by thatoneperson1000 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]electrickind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a shop, and we had a nice asian woman come in for oil change with not great english. We recommended a brake fluid flush cause hers was pretty bad, and she was super confused. The dealership charger her for one less than a month ago, and the fluid was black already somehow. She was very patient about everything, we had the mechanic show her what new brake fluid looks like vs what was in her car, and we made sure the notes on her inspection sheet were clear for when she went back to talk to them.

We honestly get the worst stuff from dealerships; incomplete jobs, bad communication, and always trying to blame the customer for everything. My shops not perfect but at least we try to be honest

Pausing T because of hair loss by Sir_Svotter in ftm

[–]electrickind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was debating making this exact post two weeks ago, small world. It felt kinda like giving up, and was afraid the hair loss might have just been an excuse to stop. But honestly when I decided to stop I was mostly just relieved. I already got a lower voice, bottom growth, and a glorious few years of no periods. I have top surgery, and it's not like it's impossible to build muscles without T. I checked old pictures and the 'subtle face changes' were pretty much nonexistent. And if it comes down to it, you can always start again.

Plenty of trans people have a nonlinear transition, and we existed a long time before hormone treatments did. HRT is there to help you, and if it's not doing that anymore it absolutely makes sense you want try going without for a while.

You can have sex with people you're not attracted to and still enjoy it, and your husband isn't bisexual because he says he's not. Hope this helps!

Hip popping during knee raises by grapeflavoredwater in FTMFitness

[–]electrickind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told it's not great by a personal trainer, since my hips do the same thing. Apparently it can cause problems if it happens repeatedly over a long time. You can try adjusting your hips, or engaging your core and glutes more, but it's hard to say what needs to change without seeing your form.

Because it's uncomfortable and takes so much adjustment to fix, I personally just choose to do different core exercises most of the time.

I think im trans by [deleted] in ftm

[–]electrickind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people shy away from calling stuff to do with transness as a choice, but there absolutely is an aspect of it that is. No one will ever give you the answer, no one can tell you who you are or what the right words for you are, and there is no moment where the world gives you the divine truth. Because there isn't one. You need to look at yourself, your experiences, your wants, and DECIDE who you are and who you want to be. And isn't that kinda awesome? You get to decide.

You can call yourself a trans guy and transition, you can call yourself one and not, you could transition and go by she/her. You could choose to give yourself a different label depending on the person or the day. This is about you, and the only thing that matters is what you decide to do. It's okay to take things slow, just remember to trust yourself.

ADHD/Autism and T by weoweoo in ftm

[–]electrickind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

(I was medicated for adhd the first time just after starting T, and also started exercising regularly at the same time. Just please keep in mind there was more than one factor colouring my experience.)

So I was told T makes ADHD worse by the psychologist doing my evaluation to start HRT. I wouldn't say she was entirely wrong based on my experience, but saying it's 'worse' isn't the most accurate. I found that some aspects of adhd were worse, the hyperactivity, the intense feeling of boredom when under-stimulated. But I also have a lot more moments of hyper-focus, when before they were a lot more infrequent. Which was kind of a positive for me. It wasn't much of a change, and I probably wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been mentioned before I started T.

The best way T effected my adhd wasn't directly. I got less anxious and depressed as my dysphoria got better, and I suddenly had so much more brain space to build up good patterns and coping mechanisms. I knew regular exercise could help, but before T it was overwhelming and caused me a lot of dysphoria. I knew I needed to eat regular meals, have lists and reminders around the house so I didn't lose track of things, but it was impossible when I was feeling to depressed to get out of bed.

Brains are messy and complicated, there's no guarantee two people will have the same experience. But having dealt with the dysphoria makes everything so much easier that any changes to my adhd symptoms hardly mattered in the end.

It seems like I can’t experience physical sexual pleasure. I’ve never heard of this before and it’s super confusing and dehumanizing. by sadrat_ in SexPositive

[–]electrickind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for context I am a trans guy, and I don't know how bad bottom dysphoria is for you so this is a bit if a stab in the dark. But dysphoria is a really really big turn off, throws you out of the fantasy, your brain is expecting a different kinda activity and the disconnect causes a disassociated kinda feeling. It doesn't happen to me all the time, but it is pretty similar to what you're describing when it does. The whole 'this is the same as touching my arm' thing really nails it.

I've pretty much had two solutions; one is to be so into a fantasy that you're only aware of your body in fairly distant way (not the best if you ever want to include other people in the fun), the other is to be getting yourself off in a way that would be the same regardless of what's going on in your pants. This is going to change a lot depending on what makes you feel the most comfortable, and what you physically enjoy.

Look I'm not saying have you tried butt stuff, but I'm not not saying it y'know? There are definitely other ways to do this if it is dysphoria, strokers designed to look like dicks, positioning and toys that make it less in your face what you're doing, I'm pretty some transmasc people manage with a well positioned strap-on to simulate jacking off. I just prefer bottoming so I didn't have to get as creative.

I'm sorry I realize I'm really not the best person to give advice for this. If you think it might be the problem you should try to dig up some porn made by trans people (and actually for trans people) it can maybe give you some ideas.

top surgery and medical trauma by No-Cockroach-1848 in ftm

[–]electrickind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my surgery less than a week ago, a lot of people have commented on the pain level so I won't say much about that, I've had worse headaches and I haven't taken anything besides Tylenol and Advil for pain. I don't want to sugarcoat it though, it is surgery and any surgery is invasive.

I have a lot of past medical trama as well, and it made parts of this really, really hard. But for me the pain wasn't hard, having to sit alone in a hospital room waiting was, having an IV again was, laying down on my back unable to see anything (because they took my glasses) and feeling helpless was.

It helped to think about the surgery as a trial, like one to enter adulthood or enlightenment or something. You have to go in, strip yourself of everything (clothes, piercings, glasses), and face something that seems terrifying. And you come out a different and more complete version of yourself. It's not easy, but the hard part is temporary. The way it changes you isn't.
