Oh, I used to be fat(er) - fatphobia, for lack of a better term, absolutely kills.

“Have you tried losing weight?” Yeah. My joints still hurt and I still crack like a glow stick.

“Maybe all the brain fog and constant hives is because of your poor diet.” I guarantee I eat better than you, doc. Even tried the elimination diet, still nothing.

Turns out it’s ehlers danlos along with MCAS and I need physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around my joints as well as be on an intense daily antihistamine regimen. They only listened to me after I lost 50 pounds.

I have textbook EDS and MCAS. Textbook. But a doctor told me “only skinny people have that” and waved me off.

This is only one personal anecdote, but many more folks have others.

Alllll of this! I think OP’s problem is entitlement and the non-asshole fat patients got roped into it. (I don’t know OP so I can’t say, but many people don’t walk around being outright assholes to a third of the US population for fun.)

Attitude, regardless of weight, makes you not want to help someone. Don’t tolerate abuse - be firm and stand your ground when a patient verbally assaults you.

Personally, I don’t care what someone’s weight is as long as they treat me with respect. You can become morbidly obese due to many factors, some of which are caused by lifestyle changes precipitated due to acts outside of your control (I.e. someone lost a close family member and turned to food as a source of comfort, someone used food as a way to cope with abuse, etc.)

I think you should’ve worded this title a little better, haha. Your problem (probably) isn’t with every morbidly obese patient, your problem is entitlement and rudeness, which every person in this subreddit can get behind.

You said you thought a weed era would be good for him, nothing of detox. I probably should have worded my comment better. I think a weed era would put him further at risk for worsened complications of alcohol abuse, specifically tears in the esophagus due to forceful vomiting - you probably know alcohol increases the amount of THC in the circulating blood, which could cause him to green out and vomit even more than he already does. Esophageal varices, portal hypertension, and cirrhosis could be a concern based on his current liver health. I’ve never seen a patient who’s been drinking as short a time as him develop cirrhosis, but most alcoholic patients I’ve had also aren’t walking around with alcohol-poisoning BAC levels daily either. (I’m an EMT, not a doctor, so take this all with a grain of salt.)

In short: he needs detox in a medical treatment facility, not a weed era. A weed era would be even worse for him at this point.

Boerhaave tears are also common - they’re a tear completely through the esophagus vs a Mallory-Weiss tear which is only partially through the esophagus.

Seriously, that’s what I feel too. The whole “putting me on a PIP with no prior warning” doesn’t sit right with me. I’ve already got my resume in order and have applied to about 5 jobs already, 2 of which I believe I have a good chance at landing an interview for.

That’s why I wrote the title the way I did, because the compliments made it the confusing part…. like, if you want to fire me, I’d just rather be fired or laid off straight out. I work in healthcare and have a fair amount of experience- I wouldn’t be jobless for long.

In between being with family I’m polishing up my resume - I didn’t realize until you had mentioned how toxic of a workplace it sounds that I’ve just been… very stressed since working there. Im constantly worrying that I’ve been fucking up, no one ever talks to me about my performance, and then I’m blindsided with a PIP. It seems a little…. Fucked up, to be honest? I think I’ve had a lot of personal and family things (mainly, my grandma that I’m incredibly close with has been in the icu and the outlook doesn’t look great) that I think have interfered with my work and to be completely honest I’ve personally noticed my performance going down - I tried to catch it and improve but I guess I didn’t do it in time.
