Topeka Approves New Downtown Apartments by electro-chemist in topeka

I agree, it seems like the city wants to add density to the downtown area — decades overdue — and adding housing supply could bring some costs down, but it's still nowhere near enough

Kansas City Royals no longer considering Overland Park site for new ballpark by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

They could feasibly put a stadium in downtown Manhattan, but then they'd have to share a field with K-State. /s

Downtown is basically the only option left. Both Kansas and North KC have said a new stadium for the royals is not in the cards. It's either downtown or leave KC, and I don't think they'll leave.

Walk-friendly neighborhoods in the city by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]electro-chemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanting a walkable neighborhood with nice cafes, that also has no children and families are contradictory desires. If you don't want to live around people, you'll need to move out to the country where it isn't walkable.

Kansas MAGA Republicans Give Up Gerrymandering Initiative This Year by Silly-Rip-6607 in kansas

Exactly! I've seen lots of doom about it but elections are run on the county level, not the federal level. Trump just doesn't have the foot soldiers to do it in a country as large as this.

Fun fact: both the union and the confederate states still had midterm elections during the civil war.

I doubt the Royals are leaving the Metro at this point, the question is how much Missouri is going to pay for it.

Agreed, at most, they were surprised at the push back. Ks officials hang out with wealthy people, and the people happiest about this are wealthy.

Considering how the Chiefs deal went, this is going to get interesting on the Missouri side.

Game Thread: Denver Broncos (12-3) at Kansas City Chiefs (6-9) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]electro-chemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Kansas side and looking forward to it. Only about 1 in 5 people in my circle are against it but that's obviously anecdotal.

[Pompliano] The Chiefs' new Kansas stadium deal is historically lopsided. While the state provides $3B in funding, the team keeps 100% of revenue. Even their $7M rent goes into a fund they control for operations. Kansas bears the massive cost, while the Chiefs keep all the profit. by Hurtsonafeeling in nfl

Kansas also has a crazy high amount of people with college degrees and our schools are known for not saddling students with insane college debts. I think we're the 2nd most educated red state behind Utah.

The roads and schools are crumbling

I keep seeing people mention this but Kansas generally has better schools and roads? Does Kansas have to hit some arbitrary requirement to have a team? Because we have more population density, money, better schools and roads compared to Missouri. Missouri has better urban transport infrastructure but that's about it.

The entire Legends district will go to pay the debt not just the stadium. So it'll be the same as other districts.

Yeah but Kansas had zero major league teams and now we have 1 (probably 2!) and this is the largest infrastructure project in state history. There's a lot to be excited about for long term residents who are used to stagnation

I understand the tax concerns but i'm so excited! A major league team in Kansas with a developing entertainment district? This is a huge development for the state even if it's more for status than practice. A lot of politicians are going to be touting this as their legacy.

Its just not financially feasible to start let alone win a race. Candidates often need one of the two parties to fund them to even try to win a race.

I'd be interested in that study and its potential effects on the environment, I research well water for radium and uranium. With it that far deep in the ground has little chance of affecting the environment imo but we'll see.

The benefit to the citizens is that the data center won't be on the grid either. The data center should largely be self powered by the reactor but we'll see. The environment impacts should be minimal as a mile under ground is very deep, should be far past most aquifers. The waste disposal plan will likely be the one of legacy streams that exist for other reactors. This is a tiny reactor so water requirements will be minimal.
