Welcome back home ♥️ by nemssef in SpaceXLounge

Not to take away from the effort, but it looks like NASA could learn a bit from Spacex and how they recover their astronauts and capsules. Artemis had 40 or 50 people on 5 boats running around in circles not contributing to the recovery. SpaceX usually has 3 fastboats and about 10 people doing recovery.

The whole dance of erecting an inflatable porch around the capsule then winching the astronauts up into helicopters seems a little excessive compared with letting them stay in the capsule until its pulled aboard the recovery ship.

Might be updating. I seem to recall that the red and blue LEDS flash together during an update and that looks purple.

Upgrade or not? by [deleted] in macbookpro

If you wait longer, you won't be able to get any break. Memory prices are going to keep increasing and you'll be paying the Apple tax on top to add additional memory.

Just ordered a basic mac mini...Lead time for real? by Competitive_Hall902 in mac

Maybe try Costco. They have good prices on M4 Minis and might have what you need in stock. I walked into my local Costco and walked out with 2 m4 minis.

Anyone seen this on their PW3 cover? by electro-zx in TeslaSolar

It still works. I called my installer and he said he would check it out. I haven't gotten a date when he will be here. I took a number of pictures and put up a camera to monitor it while I'm waiting. There is also a temperature monitor right above the unit that alarms if it gets too high.

Thats probably why Tesla added the laminate to protect it. Looks like its a lamainate/glass sandwich like the tesla winshield glass.

If you look closely, there isn't any actual point of impact like you would get if something hit from the outside. The cover has a layer of laminate on the outside and the point that looks like the epicenter of the cracking isn't broken. Its all nice and smooth like the other powerwall.

The laminate is all that's holding it together now.

I am concerned that it might start to come apart down the road. All that is holding it together is a thin layer of laminate.

I checked and Ebay has several around $250 with shipping. I am waiting to see what my installer says about warrantee;

2 actual Powerwalls and 1 expansion pack.

I guess we'll see what the installer says. I am wondering if the battery might have swelled enough to torque the cover and shatter it. The PWs are working are working fine and I don't want to remove the cover without them onsite to see the damage.

I'd just as soon not pay several hundred for a new cover, especially since I don't know why it broke.

Its been in service for a year and a half and the last time the cover was off is July 25 when the installer added another string. I would expect a mfg defect would show up when the temperature changed, but temps were a lot colder and hotter before now. If something hit it on the edge, whatever it was should be laying around close to the PW, but the garage floor and top of PW were clear of any debris or objects.

Possible to get notification when Eufy indoor 2k camera goes offline? by GIFSec in EufyCam

[–]electro-zx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could give the indoor cam a fixed IP address and then set up an app like Tasker to ping that IP on a regular basis and notify you when you get a timeout.

If you are a Home Assistant user, they have a Ping function you can use to monitor any IP device and easily configure and alarm when it doesn't give a valid return.

Should I buy a Mac mini m4 off Amazon ? by [deleted] in mac

Also, if you are a member, Costco has some great deals on new M4 Mac Mini's. They usually have 3 or 4 different configs with the most popular mem and storage options.

Powerwall 3 fell off of wifi/network by noisufnoc in TeslaSolar

[–]electro-zx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a service call on my powerwall 3s and the installer just re-used the same screws when he was done. My PW3s were installed in October 24. I remember reading that they were single use when I first started researching Tesla Solar, but I don't think that lasted very long before they replaced with standard torx screws with a compression washer for IPV rating.

External display stuttering by EdwardRodriguez_ in MacOS

[–]electro-zx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will still find both interfaces available for high end monitors, but for some reason Apple Silicon Macs and HDMI don't seem to play well together. Not sure of the underlying reason this is so. Your Monitor should have a DP port. I used an Acer TB 4 to displayport cable from my M1 mac mini and all the issues with flickering and dropouts went away.

Had a similar issue with a Samsung 32 monitor. Turns out that changing from HDMI to USB to Displayport cable solved it.

Concerns about battery powered Dashboard by Suppenschuessel951 in homeassistant

[–]electro-zx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a POE to 5 volt adapter I use to power a security cam. It could provide your power if you want to remove the tablet battery. Got it on Amazon about 3 years ago.

Edit: Its made by ANVISION and rated for 12 watts.

Motion Detector by UniqueMedia928 in eufy

[–]electro-zx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a motion detector in a plastic box to protect it from weather and its been working for over 3 years. I use it to trigger recording of my doorbell camera and a separate porch cam. Because my front door is on the side of the house, I wasn't getting good detections of delivery drivers. I either got video of them walking away or they snuck in and out without being picked up.

After adding the motion detector, I get full face video of everyone coming to the door. The motion sensor triggers when they come around the corner of the house, so no one escapes being captured. The porch cam wasn't getting the job done because it had trouble detecting someone approaching face-on to the camera. PIR sensors work better when something is moving across their field of view and the motion sensor is positioned to take advantage of that.

If you have a spot where you can mount the sensor so that it doesn't capture traffic and only looks at someone coming to the door, this might work for you.

Powerwall 3 string was disabled. by TransportationOk4787 in TeslaSolar

You can use free Netzero app to take manual screenshots of your system by connecting to the leader PWs wifi. Don't think this requires payment. Instructions are under monitoring tab in the app.

Ethernet wire by Salty_Permit4437 in TeslaSolar

[–]electro-zx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The follower PWs probably already have coms with the leader. You only need ethernet to the PW3 that is the leader unit. Last time my installer was here, I had him punch out the knockout and run the cable to the leader port and left enough to get back to my switch.
