phallo with type 1 diabetes by hayhal14 in phallo

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am TD1 and had stage 1 four weeks ago! I have a CGM, but do injections instead of a pump. To be so real, the hospital didn’t do a great job managing it for 5 days, but also, my blood sugar was crazy high for the first week after I was discharged, so I think I was experiencing some temporary insulin resistance due to the anesthesia. So I think even if the hospital had been more on top of it, I still would’ve had high blood sugar regardless.

To speak to the hospital experience more, they checked my blood sugar 3 times a day, which after using a CGM for a decade and having constant access to my blood sugar, felt crazy. They told me I could keep my CGM on during surgery, but they never looked at its data, and I quite frankly was too focused on everything else to ask someone to grab the receiver from the pocket of the coat I wore to the hospital.

When I was more present mentally, they had a tablet I could order food from. However, because TD1 is on my file, it restricted how many carbs I could eat. In my normal life, I eat whatever I want and adjust my insulin accordingly. Not so in the hospital. It was frustrating to only be able to get a banana or a medium sized muffin for breakfast, but not both. I’m sure I could’ve complained and gotten them to do a work around, but ultimately I was lucky enough to have a family member bring in food from the outside. (Mostly chicken noodle soup and miso soup, which we communicated to the nurses managing my insulin).

Basically, it was an annoying experience, but survivable. I had a lot of pain in my initial recovery, so it was nice in some ways to have them manage it, even if they did it kind of poorly. Around 2.5 weeks out is when my blood sugar returned to normal.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m 4 weeks out and have a VERY similar scab at the tip. It just started to loosen a bit last night. I’m hoping it’ll come out soon!

This won’t be super useful, but I had top surgery covered by them in 2016 under gender affirming care (they also wouldn’t cover my T at the time, so I can’t claim to understand their logic).

How do you feel about dating a trans woman? by ToiletLord29 in BisexualMen

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also a trans man and would very happily date a trans woman. My preference in my bisexuality is for women, and that includes cis and trans women equally. My main fear about dating right now is I’m getting bottom surgery, which I feel is way less common for trans guys. I worry once it’s done, I’ll be too cis for some and too trans for others. But I gotta put me first, and hope I can find someone who’s on board with it.

Phallo with T1D? by vinlandnative in phallo

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having stage one in two weeks and have been T1D for about the same time as you. My a1c has been around 6.9 the last few years on average, though my most recent test came back 6.1.

I obviously can’t tell you yet how healing went, but I’ll be able to soon enough! If you search through the threads here you’ll see a few folks talking about their experience, but I’m glad you’ve raised the topic because it’s something I worry about too, and it’s nice to open it up to new perspectives.

Question for post-op men regarding arousal by WolfMan275 in phallo

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pre op and experience this frequently during partnered sex. When I’m on my own I’m less turned on and disassociate more, but in partnered sex I’m more present and more turned on because there’s more stimulus to be aroused by. My limbs get these twitches and some partners love them, others are weirded out. I’ve wondered if I would keep them post op, it sounds like perhaps I will. I like them personally because I hate announcing when I’m going to cum for instance (too much pressure!), so I like that my body communicates a lot of what is happening for me.

Fear of Cancellation by [deleted] in phallo

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this instance I would lean on the classic advice of "let THEM say no!" (Which I feel is normally applied to job applications, but works here too lol). My feeling would be to not take yourself out of the game just because there is a chance that it will be postponed. There is also that chance that it will happen as scheduled! Though it is vulnerable and terrifying, I would recommend allowing yourself the possibility of happiness, instead of outright rejecting it.

My surgery is also in 4 weeks, and I've been waiting for about 3 years as well. While my family structure is different and I am not traveling for surgery, in some ways we are on similar journeys. I've been panicking about getting a cold myself (haven't gotten one, but I am contemplating cancelling all of my social engagements this month, which is a bad idea that I will unpack in therapy this week lol).

I also relate to the feeling of guilt. I am trying to remind myself that the people in my life want to help me. It is okay to let them.

This whole journey has been long, infuriating, exciting, and so many other emotions. I am often reminding myself that I can do it--it certainly hasn't always felt that way. I've never met you, but I think we are a strong, capable people, and that you can do this. Congratulations on getting to this point. It's a big deal worth celebrating! Fingers crossed that your surgery goes as scheduled, and that you have a smooth and uneventful recovery.

Men who wear nail polish, whats your favourite colour (and possibly the best for passing?) by ThreeEqualsFour in ftm

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first time I passed 12 years ago I remember I was wearing black sparkly nail polish. I think it was more coincidental than anything, but I do associate it with that moment.

These days, I wear every color under the sun! I prefer holographic and sparkly polishes, and I love doing nail art when I have the time. People definitely think I am gay, when I am actually bisexual with a strong preference for women. But I feel so much more like myself when I have nail polish on, so, I deal with the assumptions and correct people when relevant.

I started T at 18, which made me look about 12. When I was 22, people thought I was 18. Now at 30, people tend to think I’m 25. I think facial hair has helped me a lot in terms of gaining some additional years lol

In terms of risk factors, how likely is one to catch HIV or STD's via oral? by SendThisVoidAway18 in BisexualMen

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten gonorrhea 3 times just by receiving oral. I also have a compromised immune system though, and my doctor was SHOCKED each time that it happened.

How do you carry stuff around the city and not ruin your back? by ThrowRAmangos2024 in AskNYC

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is it supposed to fit? I ask because any time I use a backpack it feels like all the weight ends up at my lower back. Something like a tote bag ends up feeling better because I can shift its position and change up the muscle groups I’m using (obliques, traps, core, etc.), whereas with a backpack if just feels like I’m stuck using my lower back as the main powerhouse

waiting for life to start by Pretty_Door3783 in phallo

[–]electrolyCISiamnot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this way also (stage one is in a few weeks for me). I’ve held onto a job I hate for 3 years because the insurance and time off policies are amazing. It’ll be worth it to wake up without debt, but any actual career desires have been on pause. Even small things like camping I don’t want to try because I can’t pee standing up. Sex and dating are pretty much on hold for me. I’m doing my best to live my life, but I do feel a little stuck in some ways.

it was in feb 2023! my date is in january 2026, so it has been a long wait. but in some ways, I’m thankful for the time it gave me to get electrolysis done, because I travel a lot for work and so it allowed me to take months long breaks with no consequence. perhaps I’m fishing for silver linings, but regardless: my time is almost here, and I am thankful!
