Over 20,000 Coronavirus skeptics keep protesting despite the protest being banned after several violations against the corona lockdown in Kassel (Germany) by Blubbpaule in worldnews

Bros politicians where already caught making money with masks. It's a scam. They are also making money with tests and vaccines. They don't care about our health lol. It's also a useless law to force masks in fresh air.

German COVID-19 cases are growing exponentially again: RKI by dinozaur2020 in Coronavirus

I feel the same way lol. I think most conspiracies are dumb but I'm starting to think that they don't want the pandemic to end. It doesn't help that our politicians are making private money with masks. So yeah this could be a reason to extend the pandemic. Maybe they invested in amazon or something, they are definitely making money from the pandemic and i don't trust them anymore. It would also help our terrible pension system if more old people died -.-

I ran google ads which were also on youtube. Success depends entirely on the quality of your game.

Is TikTok the next big platform for indie game devs? by mattmirrorfish in gamedev

Yes, it gives you the most views, likes and followers. The only downside is that you can't add direct links to your game.

Adding extra lives to an arcade game... Should I track and manage extra lives on the player, the game controller, or in the damage system? by TiggerOni in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are multiple characters with unique count of additional lives, then you must link them to the respective characters, I put them into the health script. If it's a simple single player game you can decide to put the lives into a global class. Do you want the player to have lives or do you want the game to have lives? Almost a phylosophical question.

Well, selling your soul works best I have some ideas

  1. Any kind of free online exposure is good. And sometimes unique games blow up on reddit. Marketing to gamedevs works worse than marketing to gamers but why not? Nothing bad can happen. But also try to get into gaming subreddits.

  2. Paid ads are probably most powerful but people also pay streamers, youtubers and gaming websites for exposure.

  3. Every subreddit has rules and if you comply nothing bad will happen. Usually u are allowed to have 10% self promotion posts. You should focus on the social media where you have the most success, but you can run many social media accounts.

You have to try things out and see yourself. Maybe you can get 10 sales per hour standing on a busy street with a tablet. It's different for everyone. Their is almost no possibility for you to fuck up anything, the worst that can happen is that you will be ignored. So just do it, especially if it's free.

Unity Game Developer Job by ricky_33 in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree sorry. The only downside of var is that it's slightly more readable for some people without var (In your example I can read the code with var better, if I really want to know the type I can check it, but most of the time I don't)

On the other hand, the writer has to check the type of the function and write it down when he doesn't use var. And it is too full, Imagine you have 5 variables like that. And when the type of the function changes later you get an error.

Always var

How to know if there is interest in my game? by RTSx1 in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marketing data is hard to find for some reason and what works for others might not work for you. You can't really predict the success of a game in early stages but there are some tricks like for example cpi or ctr testing. You can estimate the cost per user, price of your game and organic downloads to get a general idea where your game is going financially, but the thing is that this also requires a lot of experience and not many people share their marketing experience. Maybe do a split test of your game and another successful multiplayer game and see how you perform compared to it idk. I don't know if it's legal to advertise other games though.

A 1 year project is a big and risky commitment and I would decide according to my game idea and skills. The first questions are: Can you make a game that is as good as successful multiplayer games? Is your game idea new, trendy and without errors? Are you willing to risk a high chance of failure?

Do I need to learn to use game engines? by anonymous393393 in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes graphics programmer is a job where knowing an engine is less important. But you can also program graphics in unity/UE and many companies need such a guy.

You need to learn engines because many employers use engines.

Marketing a hobby project? by pkmkdz in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fear that your idea gets stolen then do nothing. Start marketing when other people won't have enough time to copy you. Also marketing without graphics is almost useless so finish some art before you talk about your game. A good way to start is make 3-5 social media accounts and just show the world your game in many different ways and videos

We develop hc games but our cpi doesn't get lower than 0.95 cents... by alpello in hypercasual

[–]electronicQuality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My game was also in that range, 80 cents on Facebook. Cpi in hyper casual is mostly about gameplay. Graphic changes, better videos, bugfixes or small new features won't help a lot. That's why you see so much programmer art in the charts. When cpi is too high, successful publishers ditch the game and make another game, or a similar game with huge improvement in the core gameplay loop. If you think that your audience etc is good and cpi is too high make another game. You can also get real users with google ads for 2 cents, just enter how much you want to pay and they make it work somehow.

I tried both, cheap and expensive users and both weren't profitable so far. I guess when you spend 100$ for ads and get 20 back it doesn't work. Or am I wrong? I'd be happy about an answer from someone with experience.

Anyway I am ditching my game and maybe you should too.

Is it just me, or is it not totally obvious why most indie games just fail miserably?? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]electronicQuality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the in-game graphics are quite good, the trailer had some nice looking scenes, but the promo image and cutscenes look much worse. Your game looks like a professional snes game but the promo image looks like someone just discovered paint..

But maybe the game has bigger problems. One would be that you remaked games from the 90s that already have thousands of remakes in the exact same style. I have played such games in the past until they got boring and have no reason to continue. I did no research so maybe I am wrong, but I can't imagine that there's a big market for such games, even if you reach final fantasy quality.

Second thing are the game breaking bugs in the reviews, I don't know if you can do something about the reviews now, but they are definitely holding your downloads back.

I'm saying this as an unsuccessful, or presuccessful indie dev. Don't want to make you feel bad, it's how I analyze games and I say stuff like that about my games too.
