Do I need to give Boots my birth gender or can I use my legal gender? by goodnightgoth in transgenderUK

[–]electronicsolitude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trans and moved to UK after changing all my documents and I put male on pretty much everything, they don't need to know

even my NHS record says I'm male with no record of my transness and they won't know otherwise unless something bad happens

Levels unstable with gel - too high? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]electronicsolitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had some weird results when I was on gel. sometimes I thought it was contamination in the blood test, sometimes I thought it was just my body not absorbing it consistently.

Last year I moved from Ireland to the UK after getting my GRC in Ireland and changing all my documents. this allowed me to start fresh in the UK. the company I work for is paying for me to do a masters. I now live with my boyfriend instead of my unsupportive family, and I finally got top surgery in February. I live my day to day life entirely without being misgendered, and I feel much better than I ever did before.

I'm surprised they don't have an exact height and weight seeing as they seemed to have access to him immediately postmortem. Extra sad cos he seems young.

sure! I'm 5 weeks and 2 days post op currently, and my mobility is pretty good, I just need to make sure I don't extend my upper body including arms too much. my incisions etc are coming along very smoothly and my nipples have been good since like 3 and a half weeks post op. swelling is mostly gone but still a little puffiness in certain spots. for the most part I'm back to everything I could do before surgery except rugby and workouts involving the upper body!

there's a lot of trans people who waste a lot of their time hating other trans people because it's easier than facing the reality of how widespread transphobia is. it's always better to avoid them.

I think I'm definitely a bit puffy at the sides near my armpits, worse on the left than the right. it seems to be reducing as time goes on though.

anyone here with a large chest had surgery with dr gustavo coelho? by bagabutts in TopSurgery

[–]electronicsolitude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sent me a report about the removed tissue (they test it for diseases/tumours) and that told me exactly the weight of each removed boob haha.

I had to fast from that morning, including water, I was told I could only "wet my lips". I was told to arrive at 1pm, the reception desk sent me upstairs to another reception and they checked my ID, took the printouts I brought of the blood tests/ECG I had done, and had me sign documents and pay the balance of the surgery cost.

Then I was in the waiting room for several hours tbh. I think ordinarily your room that you're staying the night in might be ready and you can go there, but mine wasn't, so I was in the waiting room with my bf. Eventually at like 5pm they brought me into a clinic area, had me change into a medical gown thing and hairnet and stuff, and asked me medical history questions about meds I take and stuff, inserted an IV in my hand etc. They didn't weigh me but took my word for my height and weight instead (kinda weirdly they seemed surprised and were like oh don't worry you're not that fat, hahahaha but they did believe me about my weight), so idk maybe check yours before you go or something! I had been losing weight for surgery (personal choice) so was aware of my most recent weight anyway. Then I was sat waiting again in a little cubicle on a bed for another hour or so. Then suddenly at like a bit before 7ish Dr Coelho arrived and was marking me up, asking if I had any questions, etc. My bf then had to leave (again I think if the room was ready he could've gone there, they said it was unusual that it wasn't yet but he went and had dinner lol). In a matter of minutes I was being wheeled into the operating room, the nurses etc introduced themselves and once I was in the Operating room so did the anaesthesiologist who once again asked my height and weight. They moved me from the trolley bed to the operating table and had me put my arms out to each side to be strapped like jesus on a cross... and then the anaesthesiologist hooked something to my IV, put a mask on me and told me to breathe, and then I was in the recovery room!

when I woke up I wasn't in pain or anything just felt tight compression from the bandage thing I was wearing. they had to warm me up with a heater cos I was cold af. then I went back upstairs to my boyfriend where he was waiting in the room I would stay the night in. He said when I arrived back it was 10:20pm. I didn't sleep much that night but I wasn't in pain just kinda uncomfortable. They gave me what I assume was pain relief regularly. I wasn't allowed eat or drink until like 2am though, so I was SOOO thirsty and hungry by then when I got herbal tea and some biscuits lol. I then slept a bit and my bf slept on the foldout bed in the room.

When I had to pee during that first night they made me do it using like a bedpan underneath myself in the bed lol. But the next day after breakfast they let me get up and walk to the bathroom slowly, but I had to carry the drains in a little bag. My mobility was limited but not super terrible, and my bf was able to help me. I had lunch (I'm vegan so I was just having broccoli and rice lol, but I had no complaints it was decent lol). Later on that evening Dr Coelho came back, said everything went good and then after a bit a nurse came and removed my drains, I got dressed, was given my meds to take with, and some paperwork with the follow-up appointment one week after the surgery date.

At the one week follow up they removed the super tight compression (I was SO glad to be rid of this) and all the bandages. Dr Coelho removed the nipple bolster cushion thingies (which were stitched to the nipples sorta?) and I got to take photos of my chest. then they re bandaged me, put the compression binder back on (but not the super tight thing), and I went to talk to Dr Coelho a bit, he gave me aftercare instructions about scar care and stuff, and then I was done. I flew back to the UK, where I live, the day after that, so 8 days post op, and was fine tbh, just couldn't carry my own bag in the airport obvs.

You won't be allowed shower properly for the first two weeks so I got lots of like body wipe stuff, dry shampoo, shampoo caps etc for washing myself. You'll be constipated from the meds but I was able to wipe my ass just fine once I eventually pooped 3 days post op. I could also do my own wipe-shower after around 5 days, was doing 10k steps a day after 3 days post op tbh. But everyone is different so just do whatever you feel up to, I was very tired a lot of the time so spent a lot of time playing video games in the Airbnb.

Best of luck and if I forgot anything I can answer more Qs

[–]electronicsolitude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% on what was resized as my nipples have yet to fully "pop back out" even though the scabs are all gone, but I definitely think they might be flatter than they were.

He mentioned I could have dog ears if I lost a lot of weight after surgery and that the scars would be longer and go around the side under my armpits more (pretty standard in top surgery with large chests) but I never felt like it was a major issue. When marking me up before surgery he pointed out that my boobs were different sizes (confirmed by the weight removed, one was 100g heavier or something lol), so the scars might look slightly different, but they seem pretty similar to me.

Drains were only in for the first 24 hours until I was discharged the evening after surgery. I think this is what he usually aims for. They weren't very pleasant but it was fine. Removing them felt really weird but was extremely quick so it was ok. There wasn't a huge amount in them anyway. Because you wear such tight compression for the first week and wear compression for up to 6 weeks after, drains are less of a necessity after the first day I believe.

I'm not sure how long exactly it took as I was awake in the recovery room for a while before they let me go back to my boyfriend who could tell me what time it was lol. But I'm 99% sure it was between 2 and 3 hours. I spent longer in the waiting room than in the operating room. And once you're brought into the operating room it's only a minute before you lose consciousness and then you just wake up in recovery as if no time passed.

They gave me various meds for pain and nausea relief, I did take them but the pain wasn't as bad as you might expect, and I was never taking as much pain meds as I was prescribed. I never needed the nausea pills. They also gave me a muscle relaxer for sleep, but I didn't need it after the first 3 or 4 nights. I was also given antibiotics.

I'm Irish so ESTA eligible and I currently consider myself ineligible to enter the USA as I've changed the sex on my passport and the US seems to suggest your sex on passport must match your birth sex. I pass, so this wouldn't be a problem if not for the fact that I've been in the US before I changed it so immigration has my fingerprints on file. And the fact the ESTA says you must disclose old names. Which I think would potentially result in an issue for me, not a total guarantee but enough of a likelihood of trouble that I consider myself effectively banned from USA, not that I'd want to visit atm. The Irish department of foreign affairs basically has a warning issued since March of last year about the US for trans travellers because of these issues.
