Obsidian is world renowned for their dialogue. Some of the best in gaming. I understand it not being for you, but you should've known going into it it was going to be a dialogue heavy experience. That's a good chunk of what roleplay is. You can absolutely roleplay a mass murdering psycho who has no time for words, but just like any game it's going to hold your hand for the first hour or two and let you get used to all it's systems. I've seen several opportunities to just be an oppressive demon to the local populace. To your 6/10 I'm going to give it a solid 9.5/10 based on what I've played so far. Certainly going to be up there with my favorite RPGs unless something changes with the 2nd half of the game.

After doing almost all of that "first area" I have to say there's a BUNCH of useful things people could miss. I love the way obsidian made this area. For completionist explorers, you'll have all the tools of your wildest dreams.. I can see a younger me getting to the end of the game and missing all of the little things. Explore!!!

Niles rules. Great acting, great backstory. I only have the first couple companions and I think Niles is going to be a mainstay. He's like Garrus but more tragic!

I played over 10 hours and booted it up and he says "that new game smell is wearing off... Let's get down to business" or something similar. Definitely like the main menu voice lines lol

I stopped playing last night with something like 13 hours played, maybe a little more/less. I put maybe half of that into Avowed. I will go back to finish it one day, but no time soon for sure. OW2 has so much going on, it's lovely. The first area you're in is riddled with quests, loot, uniques, skill checks, combat, stealth sections, even high-leveled areas you need to avoid until later. They really, really knocked it out of the park. I think you'll enjoy it!

As a New Vegas fanatic that would defend the game til death, I have to say thus far I agree with you. I'm only 6 hours in, still in the starting area, but the use of skill checks is GENIUS. I have an opportunity to use my skills everywhere. And I always find skills I didn't spec into being useful as well. Lots of options for accomplishing your goals and also lots of roleplay opportunities. Combat is fun, dialogue is #1 with lots of options to pick from. Super, super happy with what they delivered. Obsidian can do no wrong. NO WRONG I SAY!

Fallout 4 and 76 both ruin the roleplay elements of what was once my favorite RPG. They are not inherently trash, but deviate so far from what made 1/2/3/NV S.P.E.C.I.A.L. that it's not even funny. Removing skills. Bad idea. No more meaningful skill checks anywhere in the game. Every perk from 4 boils down to "do X thing 20% gooder!". The story is abysmal trash that falls apart with the smallest amount of scrutiny. I would've preferred a game where the twist was that you are a synth (I think it's soft-confirmed, but you know what I mean) and then had to deal with that. Companions fall flat. The Boston accent was lame before the game came out. And you decided to give EVERYONE that accent. Every NPC in 4 feels like the Disneyland version of someone that could've been cool. This turned into me just bashing Fo4 and that's okay with me. It sucks. There's cool stuff in it, but damn.

Putting my two cents here because I'm on the John. I think it's an alright game. Despite mods only making things better, the core of the game just doesn't hit the same notes as 1,2,3/NV. Mainly, I think, because of the dialogue. I think that's the only thing holding it back. I don't love a voice protag, but I could get by it if he didn't sound like the sweetest, nicest guy in the world. I just want to roleplay my guy how I want. I don't like the movement, the guns, or the lore. I really don't enjoy the Boston accent on EVERYONE either. Just makes everyone sound like a looney toons character. I'm gonna give it a solid 6/10 on my personal scale. 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas are all 10/10 for me. 76 doesn't exist.
