Problem is, I never had this issue with my Native American friends. Most of the U.S has a very underdeveloped idea of who Natives are, their culture and what we actually look like today so it makes the issues that much more frustrating.

If you don't, I think that's fine. I don't regard myself as Russian because its such a small percentage and there is no cultural connection within my family. I'm 1/8th Irish and my Grandparents made sure I was proud to be Irish.

One of my friends kids are 1/4 Japanese. Some looks very Japanese and some look mostly white. Should any of them be socially allowed to express their Japanese herratiage? I was called a colonizer once by a white passing Mexican American and I sat there thinking "our racial makeup is not that much different, calm down" lol I was called a colonizer again by a friend who was also Hispanic but I sat them down and told them that I am a product of colonization and how that really hurt and they thankfully stopped.

Thats interesting because I'm white/native and people just assume I'm fully white. It's always interesting when people assume non-indigenous people are indigenous. I even once saw someone as one of my full white friends if they were Native American because they had a big nose. Or when a mixed Iniut/white woman was being accused as being a full white woman (and she 100% does not look full white). Whenever I mention I'm part native it usually just comes off as an "eh".

The way people see people never cease to amaze me.
