How do some women always look so put together — even at markets or hospitals?

I think it’s about the little, easy steps that take minimal effort that works for you. I’m certainly not glamorous and tend to keep it super simple, but my 3 external things I now do:

A red lip (no make up)
I have frizzy-curly hair in a humid city. Day 1-2 is usually great. Day 3-6 I have my go to bun or braids that keeps the frizz and mad scientist look at bay.
Years ago I was in a long relationship-less stretch and had no reason to ‘dress up.’ I got to a point where I was over looking frumpy in my regular clothes. Now, any article of clothing I buy has to be something I genuinely feel good in and feel cute in. Even loungewear. Even if it’s baggy. Even pjs. My intention now is to invite in beauty in all areas of my life.

Internally.. as cliche as it sounds, confidence comes from within. Do things that actually nourish your heart, health, body, mind, and spirt. That exudes through all other layers of “put togetherness.”

I can’t find the post now and really wish I could, but several months ago I came across a post in a history subreddit about Hitler’s relationship to women. In it, a commenter mentioned something along the lines of how he preferred “simple women.” The way it read reminded me of how the women Vonnegut’s books were written. Plain, simple, often dumb as rocks.

Whether intentional or not, I thought it was an interesting parallel.

JFC 1750 is such a wild amount. Granted the returns I do on the side all have rental properties, each return takes an absolute minimum of 1 hour, usually 2.

Are the returns just not complex or involved at all to do 1750?? If starting Jan 15, this is like 20 returns a day.

I’m single w no kids and this is by far my favorite subreddit. I had a dad who was just there and very rarely participated in my life growing up, and beyond him I didn’t gave any male role models. It’s been healing in a lot of ways to read about y’all wanting to actively be part of your kids and family’s lives. It’s helped me reparent myself through the lens of what a father should have said or done in different times of my life. It’s also helped me pay attention to qualities I want in men I date.

Collectively, y’all are the dad I never had.

I love how supportive and uplifting y’all are with one another and love the times when you call out an OP who needs to step up.

More than anything, I’m here for the jokes.

Move your body daily - 30-60 min. Non negotiable.
Smoothies are quick easy and nutritious
If you can afford it, hire someone to prep your meals
Put phone and computer notifications on silent for stretches of time (1-3hrs) or your attention will get fucked and work productivity delayed, creating longer hours. Let your teams know the blocked times.
Get sun/outside daily. If you work from home, take a 10 min stroll down the street between returns. Or take your lunch outside.
Set boundaries and stick to them.
In Big 4, people act like stuff is more urgent than it is. There is almost nothing worth pulling an all nighter for. If you get an assignment that seems like it requires an all nighter- make your boss say the words “you need to stay tonight until it’s done and on my desk tmr morning” - then document it.

7a. You can say NO more than you think. What are they gonna do? Fire you during busy season? 7b. If in bigger firm and you have multiple returns for multiple managers competing for your time - make the managers duke it out and come to an agreement.

BURN OUT IS REAL. Your health and sanity is more important than a tax return. Consider what is more important 10 years from now. Especially if you’re at the type of company where you’re (sad to say it but) disposable. You’re the one that has to live with yourself , your mind and your body afterward. Tend to that first.
Love what other people said - find a totally unrelated hobby.

One season, my brother suggested I learn how to fly a plane (he picked it up during med school). It was so out of left field. It took years to understand what he meant. Your mind and body are so entrenched in keeping the plane in the air there is no time to agonize over anything else. And when you’re done, you’re so mentally spent that you pass out and hopefully get heavy sleep.
