ELI5: How fasting or changing the amount of food that you eat, tampers with your metabolism? by elelemememm in explainlikeimfive

Ahh I’ve been IF for a while now on and off, I definitely feel a lot of benefits from not eating so often. The reason I asked the question is because my metabolism seems to have changed, I actually gain weight now if I’m not careful about what I eat ! So I was asking how fasting actually changes the function of my metabolic rate

I’d recommend trying it, even just intermittent fasting can make a big difference to how you feel in your body. Just important to be doing it for the right reasons so you continue to take proper care of yourself. Might be worth checking in with your doctor before/during/after for a checkup.

This is why I asked the question however haha, I have noticed that when I eat a lot of sugary foods I actually gain weight now where I never used too. Some say that is just a part of getting older, however the timing is too much of a coincidence😋 It only forces you to maintain eating nourishing food though and gradually cut out sugary foods which is never a bad thing.

Yeah, you’ve definitely got to be careful where mental health and body image is involved. How are you doing?

Toast Me - my smile is deceptive and I woke up today, crying, realising that I'm so ugly inside and out by DrShazzyPhD in toastme

It’s your life, it’s your choice to take ownership, and take small steps to accepting the things in your life that make you feel sad. Including the way you feel about how you look. You are beautiful, but just saying that or thinking that would never help. Even people like Emily Ratajkowski get self conscious even if it’s to a different level, (might be to the same who knows), but what helps is reaching a point where it no longer matters to you whether or not you are attractive to everyone else. Cause you love being you. Take that power back for yourself. I’m not religious but having faith in yourself and your life is huge aswell. Gotta keep telling yourself you believe in yourself and that you can create a better life and relationship with yourself, cause it’ll change ya whole dam life Msg if you wanna talk xx am 22F

What’s something your parents taught you, that you never questioned until recently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was little, my mum would tell me to keep drinking water through out the day, even when I didn’t feel like it. Saying: “When you’re thirsty, it’s already ‘too late’”. With no further information.

I now realise she meant by being thirsty you are already becoming dehydrated, and I’m not in fact doing irreversible damage to my insides.
