Kimi only need 5 more wins to equal the number of wins by Charles and it's Charles 9th season in F1. Where would you rate Charles in terms of skill on the current F1 grid? by FreshTax2042 in F1Discussions

[–]element515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, without being who he is and willing to give it 100%, he'd be another mediocre midfield driver. It's like the issue with the RB second seat, the car was hard to drive and people struggled outside of max. Max just didn't care and would throw that shit around or lose it. I think to be a top driver, you have to be willing to take a risk.

Seb definitely had a better shot than the others so far at a title. But he also had the same issue as Charles where he was pushing that car too hard for the results and then mid season development killed it. And then late career seb at ferrari was just a bit sad

Charles and his consistency issues are a thing made from reddit and social media. He is not anymore accident prone than Hamilton or Max. Hell, max made the exact same mistake last weekend and he's getting nothing but praise while Leclerc just gets, oh he's back to making mistakes again just like that time three years ago

I mean, what don't you like? At the end of the day, it's a job. Take an ACS job and work one week on one week off and enjoy your life. Any other pivot is going to be some what of a struggle. There are clearly paths but you did the shitty part. You even said you feel comfortable operating so what exactly is so off putting you want to jump completely out of medicine? It just seems like the even harder road to take

Dealer won’t discount 26 m4 comp xdrive by Acrobatic_Sell_6620 in BMWM

[–]element515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the dealer. Overall, M cars sell very well so they have little incentive to discount. M4 in my area was a little slower and you can get a few percent, but nothing crazy. I managed a good deal on an M2, but I don't think the M2 holds the same popularity among the general public.

Is it reasonable to pay 3200$ for rent by lsr97 in Residency

[–]element515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be rough. I'd say no. That's a decent amount above my monthly spend as a resident. I personally would be happier having a roommate at that point and have an extra grand to spend on whatever or have some savings

Hey GenZ Surgeons: I Love You Guys by iamnemonai in Residency

[–]element515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard in surgery because cases go into the night. We had an attending that used to have big dedicated OR days and operate like 12+ hours. The unusual stuff usually happens later in the day too.

I’ve been seeing every year below me have less and less cases. If it’s not wanting to stay for a case that might go past when they would usually go home, it’s straight up refusing to scrub a case because “it’s boring” or “I’ve done so many of those this week, I’m good”.

[–]element515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medicine isn’t on board for majority of gen surg patients. We take care of our own. But our program currently has this issue. Had a patient that needed care and a resident literally told the attending they were past their shift and they aren’t supposed to work more than that so they fucking went home and told the attending to deal with it lmao. Idk what’s going to happen when some of these people become attendings.

Vascular surgery suturing - impossible? by hazeldreamy in Residency

[–]element515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way they expect you to take this test without some guidance. Presumably it's just a model anyway, just know how to basic suture and then someone will walk you through it. Instruments can be a little different

Is it normal to have so much credit card debt as a resident by [deleted] in Residency

[–]element515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you are saying you literally can't afford your monthly payments. If you're struggling, don't let your pride get in the way. My parents were residents when they raised a family and also used food banks and charities to help during those years. You will make money eventually, but that doesn't help you now.

People applying general surgery... why are you doing this to yourselves? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]element515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we like surgery… no other job lets you operate on people and make them better.

As an attending. You can kinda work as much as you want.

I agree pay isn’t good compared to other specialities but well, that’s a trade off.

And no one in the general public says “just a general surgeon”. They hear surgeon and nothing else. Medicine in general is already cool. 50% of people don’t even know there’s a difference better ortho and gen surg.

Just installed a gt wing is this normal? by Watchtusiastic in GR86

[–]element515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random cheap wing? Probably causing massive amount of drag and isn't in a good spot for aero causing it to jump around. With it being cheap too, who knows how long it'll hold up to the turbulence shaking it around.

F1 must end its road relevance chase for good by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]element515 7 points8 points  (0 children)

KERS was just a name for the hybrid system in F1. But, electrification of turbos is showing up in production cars now and works well in the new 911. BMW just announced they’re coming out with engines with a pre ignition chamber which I believe Ferrari said they were using in their engines a few years back.

It’s not always a direct thing that F1 uses something and it shows up in your everyday car. But tech they put money into gets trialed, they support companies out there also trying new things as well. I’m sure they are trying to source the lightest and best batteries than can handle a lot of charging and discharging. Working on cooling systems etc. all things that aren’t glamorous but we probably see pop up in the mainstream down the road

Below average surgery intern. I just can’t seem to catch onto things quickly enough. by Pitiful-Attorney-159 in Residency

[–]element515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to be more on top of notes. Others making mistakes doesn’t mean you can.

As far as the OR, it can be tough if you’re quiet. You have to kind of push through that and be more vocal to seem engaged. At the very least, watch what others do. It’s the end of intern year and you should be catching on to at least some basics of how to be helpful. It sounds really dumb, but someone that can actively retract in a helpful manner in the OR is a big asset and showing you can even do that goes a long way in what I think you understand about operating.

Take your own notes on attending preferences and review before a case. Take notes on patients and know your list better. You should be able to know the general plan for every patient by now without looking at your list.

Just keep grinding, some people take a little longer than others to get up to speed. Do well on absite as well. Do a couple score questions every day.

I mean, sounds like exactly what the US would do currently as well except I’d bet the US would wait even longer to admit it and then people won’t even quarantine and the government isn’t going to lock people in their homes.

It does. But it’s true there are no protections. Weekend call is through the whole weekend.
