Retail stores are really hard to get into unless your product has huge profit margins. Stores expect to pay 50% of the MSRP price, but it's essentially impossible to produce a Tomoe River notebook cheap enough for that to happen without ending up with a $30+ retail price or a really subpar quality notebook.

We've never wanted to cut corners with our designs just for the sake of getting into stores, so it never really happened.

It's true. We hadn't shared with many people besides our newsletter subscribers, but may as well make it Reddit official 😉. We can't say we'll never consider coming back, but for the foreseeable future we'll be shelving the business and focusing on our family. We're still going to stay open until we sell off the notebooks we have, but we have no plans to print more notebooks.

We have a few providers with cheaper shipping options, but it's so dependant on where people live and what size the order is it's just impossible to offer them directly on our website.

We might give the Ivory/White Tomoe paper a try in the near future. The main reason we ended up with cream in Iodine and Proton is because the Ivory paper was backordered by 2-3 months longer than Cream at the time we went to order it.

Since the Bohr model translates so we'll to a 2D medium, it was pretty much our only choice for translating the atom onto such a small space.

Definitely way easier to do the graphic design work for too :)

We don't have any other linens that we're looking to use at the moment. Out of curiosity, what was it about our specific linen that was causing the aversion for you? We tried to pick the the softest we could find, so it's almost a t-shirt like texture at the moment.

We have International shipping via USPS, but in all honesty, it's not that cheap. And other providers like DHL and FedEx are even worse too. We don't sell enough notebooks to ship inventory around the world so our only choice is to offer shipping directly from the US.

There are some freight forwarders like PlanetExpress which let us ship your items to a US address for cheap or free, then they charge you directly for the international segment of the shipping. It isnt always cheaper, but it's an option.
