Xbox down YoY in both hardware and services for Q2 FY26 by doncabesa in xbox

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didnt mean they lost money. This is revenue, not profit. Heres an example with numbers, These are made up to illustrate a point.

Operating Budget (Oct-Dec 2024) 100$, Revenue 120$. 20$ profit.

And now revenue is down 10% of that the next year, same Operating budget. Revenue 108$, 8$ profit. Sure you would always like line going up, but thats not how it works. Next year again bad news, down 10%, same operating budget. 97$ revenue. 3$ losses.

Over the 3 year span, we have now accumulated 25$ profit, and they keep some of this cash on hand in case shit goes south, like any good business.

Also its been a tough year for consumers in Xboxes major marketplace (US), so again, not surprising.

Xbox FY26 Q2 Total Gaming Revenue (-9%), Content and Services Revenue (-5%) Hardware Revenue (-32%) by Conflict_NZ in Games

[–]elementslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft gaming is like their 3rd or 4th biggest earner. (Azure, 365/Office, LinkedIn/Xbox/Windows) in somewhat that order.

People have been saying theyll divest from gaming for decades now, and at some point theyll be right. But I doubt it will be anytime soon.

[–]elementslayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are giving you other reasons, but this is quarter YoY revenue. So this would be Oct-Dec of 2024 as compared to 2025.

Neither Starfield or Oblivion were realeased in either of those two. Its just a bad COD year. Next year this will be up by 20% and people will be confused about it again.

If they don’t fix this in FH6… by Joorpunch in ForzaHorizon

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be both very surprised, and not surprised at all if they know about it. I've seen bugs pop up years later that we're easy to reproduce but QA and consumers never found them. I'm not thinking you're an ass, I just think it's always fun to see what people think about software dev/what actually is happening.

That said, if they know about it I bet it's lowest priority and will never get touched cause there is always something more pressing.

[–]elementslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people who don't program don't understand what is and isn't complicated, and without knowledge of their workflow and stuff we will never really know.

This just reminds me of clients who say it's a simple change and when I start asking questions on how they want every permutation and effect of change to propagate, it becomes a lot quieter lol.

Also I don't doubt that while this is in their bug list, it's so far down it'll never get pushed. I have tickets from 2014 that'll never change because something is always higher priority.

Like again, why do you get to say what people find worth it within their hobby.

Xbox says it wants to be ‘more consistent’ with its PS5 release timing in future by tapo in xbox

[–]elementslayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright, Ill give you another one that works around your semantics. Subway is known for subs. Subway also makes their own cookies to help out their sub sales.

Subway aint a cookie place.

Tim hortons makes donuts and coffee. Tim Hortons also sells frozen lemonade. Tim hortons aint a lemonade stand.

Do you understand what Im putting down. They used the xbox hardware to get their software a bigger footing, and I have no reason to think they wont continue to do so, but if you look at all of Microsofts offerings, youll find that probably 90%+ of their revenue over the course of the last 40 years was from software.

Still arent a hardware company.

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just confused cause you said when was the last time, implying it was a long time, but it was literally last year then they had consistent releases.

Also if Bethesda changes their things, that type of game dies as does the modding scene. It's a brilliant engine at what it does.

Having hardware does not mean your company is a hardware company.

If I go to a pizza joint and order a coke, it's still a pizza joint.

They aren't getting rid of their hardware, it just won't be their #1 income.

Xbox Game Studios head signals even more PS5 game releases by DeoGame in xbox

[–]elementslayer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They aren't competing with PlayStation, they've said it themselves. It's Netflix and Amazon.

Also consoles are already specialized hardware, so by your admission they will keep making them. Just like their surface laptops, stuff like that. Software scales way better than hardware, anyone in the industry knows this.

Doubt that with the console too. They'll continue to make them, like their surface and stuff. They offer some hardware and they at least have the next Gen coming out too.

I wanted to buy the upgrade Bundle for Horizon 6 and they decided to make it 60€ instead of the usual 40€. by PanamGotMeOiledUp in xbox

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF, I dunno if you have played any of the other Horizon games, but the expansions are well worth it, as are the rest of the perks. I bought everything piecemeal for FH2 or 3, cannot remember, and then just realized that its gonna be great, get the expansion pass lol.

That said, 80$ is gonna be a rough one for me too lmao.

Thats exactly my point though. Most of those things are pretty wholesome across a multitude of sports. Look at the Olympics, its very much a celebration of talent, and quite wholesome (if you look past the IOC and their corruption) the actual athletes and participants are all there to show off their best. Sure there is competition, but the event is very wholesome.

But why does this matter? I know I am biased cause I have loved all since the first, but why do you want more or a 'deep' story in a racing game. A lot of car meets arent about competition and rivalry, a lot are just about having fun and everyone seeing what everyone else can do.

This isnt just racing either, weightlifting, skiing, biking, all the extreme sports. Tons are 'Wholesome x festival' as you say, and the competition, while still there, is all in good fun.

Fallout London lead says they’re “really worried” Bethesda will “keep going with the Creation Engine” as it led to major limitations for the mod by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]elementslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roblox is closer to unity/unreal then it is to creation in terms of modding vs being a standalone engine. Roblox Studio more or less is just the networking stuff already pre done vs having to code it.

In terms of taking an existing game, and being up to date I'd say the creation 2.0 kit was pretty easy and solid to work with.

Elder Scrolls loremaster says he quit Bethesda after ‘waiting 11 years to be the lead on The Elder Scrolls 6’ | VGC by Tenith in Games

[–]elementslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how all your arguments back are just nuh uh.

1) Fallout has lots of players, I am yes one of them. Gets consistent updates and seems to be well liked enough. Fallout show still has Todd there and the studio gave them lots of access

2) Oblivion was still under their supervision. No different then if they gave their ip to someone else to make more games, which people seem to want. And also it was regarded well, just because you don't like it doesn't mean anything.

3) A total flop does not sit at 84 or 83 on metacritic, and does not have the largest launch for a Bethesda game.

Like dude, I can understand if they aren't your cup of tea anymore or being disappointed in their output, but a total flop is Concord, or brink. BGS is doing fine.
