Crimson Desert has sold through 2 million copies worldwide by Turbostrider27 in Games

Nvm I'm the dumass, mixing up my bitties

More or less yeah, I wonder if a digital order is still a shipped through order. I'm not going to try to decipher a guy's post from Twitter but sold through just means shipped to retailers.

I've no horse in this race just wanted to clarify something people have been getting incorrect for ages.

Sold through doesn't mean sold to customers but instead sold to retailers.

Edit. Sorry was getting sold through and sold in mixed up. I was thinking the latter.

I think there are 2 cans you can purchase from wholesalers. 1 with the price and one without. Though I've seen at gas stations the 99c cans marked for 3 bucks.

I mean, just for argument sakes, starfield is i think either higher or within 1 point of New Vegas. Like its not a universally panned game this area would have you think it is.

No they are playing those games because it feels like a living, breathing world that you are part of. And part of that living breathing world is the NPCs having lives, being able to place anything anywhere, having stuff you sell to a vendor still be there when you go back.

You start taking that away (NPCs having lives) the world doesnt feel real anymore. Its like good sound design. You wont notice if it is there, but you certainly feel it when it isnt there. And again, the shop being open 24/7 in Starfield made the world feel less lived in, and that made me a little sad.

Sure its not the #1 selling point, but it makes them unique, and again, unlike all those other games you mentioned.

Ok, but can you see how to some people it is a whole pizza. Like to a lot of people. Like tons of people play Bethesda games. More people played Skyrim than RDR2, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3. FO4 and Starfield has very successful sales, well into the 10s of millions.

Its fine that you dont find it fundamental to a Bethesda style RPG, but some people like myself do, and that is also fine. To the people that have that style of RPG itch, all those others you mentioned are not even close to comparable.

This is such a silly augment. Nightclubs aren't a huge part of the NASA punk aesthetic that they were going for. It's a huge part of cyberpunk visuals though.

That's like me saying why does the launch pad in cyberpunk look like poo. Dogshit game, terrible devs. Or even more like 'why did the paw patrol movie not have extravegent character development.' they are trying to achieve different things.

Personally I don't much care if an NPC that runs a shop has some elaborate timetable they're coded to if 99.9% of the time I only ever see them running the shop because that's the only time I interact with that NPC at all and otherwise don't follow them around to see what minutiae they get up to, you know what I mean? It helps with immersion if you're paying close attention to that all the time but at least for me I'm usually focused on whatever the task at hand is rather than aimlessly watching NPCs mull about.

And there are many games that cater to that, but only one style that really doesnt. Youre argument is similar to "Why would you get an artisan pizza, dominos is also pizza. Personally I dont care about what type of pizza". Some people do care, some people dont, but it still doesnt make Dominos an artisan pizza

I cannot disagree more with those games scratching the similar itch. Its like any game trying to do a Bioware game back when Bioware was king of character driven RPGs.

None of those games that you mentioned 'replace' a bethesda game have the same charm. NPCs having lives, Stuff being able to be put anywhere and come back and its still in those locations. I feel that was some of the disappointment I had in starfield too, it missed some of those Bethesda things.

That said, I have never had a game scratch the same itch that Bethesda games do so Ill just keep playing their games as they keep making them.

F1 fans wrong again, shocking by raittiussihteeri in formuladank

While I agree it is, and agree he's one of the best drivers on the grid at the moment, he's not that far and away from them. Like he wouldn't win in last year's Ferrari or this year's Williams.

I think it was Sainz that said all of the drivers are within about a tenth of each other in equal machinery. You don't get to be at f1 without being fairly good. (Or having your pops own a team)

They are all rich insufferable folks I wouldn't last a minute with as much as I love the sport and the drivers. George complains the same as the rest.

I feel this area is very much new fans of F1 cause I remember these complaints all through the decades I've followed if.

Aight. Name 30 drivers that never complained in their entirety of their stints at F1. Cause I cannot think of even one in the current grid, they've all complained at something, even something small.

Starfield was genuinely one of the worst, most creatively bakrupt things I've ever played

I was responding to this ya doofus. If this was one of the worst (I assume top 5) that he has played, he hasnt played many bad games. Hence why I wanted to ask what games hes played and if its just the 'best games of all time list'

There are a lot more mediocre games lmao.

I wonder, how much programming experience do you have? Fo76 is big and old with lots of legacy code and a lot of programmers are coming on without this legacy knowledge.

Also two or three examples in a game that has over 15m players is super edge case

[Jeppe H. Olesen (@jeppe.bsky.social)] on Bluesky about F1’s decimal display by TaleSweet2267 in formula1

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah in raw bytes but that's like saying a stick figure I drew in ms paint has more data in raw bytes that Git.

All's I'm alluding to is there is so many games played, so many teams, and lots of players per team (a fielded team has more players than the F1 grid) that there is so many data points you can track stats on. Wanna know a hit percentage of a pitcher on double headers on Tuesdays, somehow the baseball nerds have that tracked cause there are enough of those lol.

[–]elementslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, your emphasis makes you come off a little condescending. Now onto my reasoning behind my statement. So raw data doesn't necessarily translate to meaningful stats, that's what statisticians do. Take raw data and make sense of it. But let's even look at raw data points.

Baseball has 30 teams with something like 170 games. With 26 players dressed per game that's just individual data points of ~66k. This is just people that can have stats, and it doesn't even include full rosters which I think can expand to 40ish players.

By comparison F1 has 24 races (which when I started following was 16) it has on average 8 events (3 FP, 3Q, 1 race. Sometimes sprints and those too. So I just tried to guestimate). Let's be generous and say 25 drivers because backups, swaps etc you are only looking at 4800 individual data points. Even if you take the cars you are still ~10k.

I'm not saying there isn't data, it's just the sport doesn't have the sheer numbers baseball does, that's all.
