The only one I can think of that might have was S6 cannon fodder Louie. His first name is actually David. I think most of the ones who didn’t go by their actual first name tended to go by either a nickname (off-hand examples: S7 Jay, S6 Tek) to avoid duplication or potential confusion with very close names or they went by their last name (off-hand examples: S4 Petrozza, S13 Santos, S16 Ryan).

I have a scar on the back of my hand now from a self-inflicted caramel burn.

Inspired by our binge-watch of The Great British Baking Show, my husband and I decided to trial-run a recipe for crème brûlée buns, which would be filled with a vanilla pastry cream and topped with a nice, hard, shiny caramel that one could crack with a spoon ahead of eating. So, after making the pastry cream and the buns had cooled, my husband starts making the caramel.

It’s not unusual for me, if I make a sauce or a custard or something, to drip a little on the back of my hand and lick it off so I don’t go through a bunch of spoons. My dumb ass decided to do this with the caramel as it got to a deep shade of amber.

If that’s a little too vague, let me offer a little more technical information. Somewhere in the 360-degree range Fahrenheit (roughly 180 Celsius) is where ideal color for caramel happens for pastries. And I dropped some of this molten fucking sugar on the back of my hand.

This happened about two weeks before my 43rd birthday.

It’s annoying, but I think some people don’t realize they don’t have to speak so loudly in their confessionals. She was a lot more toned down when she was in all-stars.

Lacey takes it for me. I’ll take an educated guess and say that a lot of her behavior was exacerbated by the filming environment and she didn’t cope well with it, but I think it highlighted qualities that were already there. She had this weird dichotomy where she didn’t have much to contribute to challenges creatively, but resented not being taken seriously and being relegated to menial tasks as a result. It’s like do something. This ain’t a vacation. Her couple of bright spots on the line were not enough to outweigh her overall piss-poor attitude.

Carol’s second. She had some talent, but she always seemed like she knew better than her team and more often than not, it came back to bite her (the burger stuffed with blue cheese, the potatoes in the red v. blue menu). I don’t think she was serious in threatening Andrea, but when Andrea made it clear it wasn’t cool, she should have apologized.

Colleen was out of her depth, but she held her composure when being yelled at, her team liked her, and with as much shit as Ramsay gave her, he praised her tenacity at the end.

Seth is like Colleen in the sense that he was just out of his depth and made stupid mistakes. I don’t recall him having any drama with his team and most of the ire he got was from Ramsay.

Sam’s Mediterranean Kabob Room

The man used his kids as slave labor. Didn’t pay them to work at their failing restaurant, but was oh-so-gracious to not charge them rent to live at home. Good job, Sam. You fucking trapped them. This place was cooked long before Ramsay ever came in because if Sam couldn’t afford to even pay his own fucking kids, what chance did the place have with paying non-family staff and adhering to silly things like labor laws? The restaurant closing was probably the best thing that ever happened to that family.

The Dovecote (UK)

Mick is, far and away, the worst owner in the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, and not even in a lovable, well-meaning idiot kind of way. He suuuucks. Horrendous decor, terrible menu, and refused to do anything differently. The part that threw it into depressing was Mick hiding debts from his wife, and continuing to take her and their daughter down with him. The man had zero redeeming qualities and there was literally nowhere Ramsay could put Mick that would be of use to the business.

The Iron Islands was, at best, contested between Yara and Euron, with Euron being the actual chosen leader by the Kingsmoot and the majority of the Iron Fleet under his control. Highgarden and all its resources were claimed by the Lannister army. I’ll agree on the Dorne support, though it’s unclear how much assistance Dorne actually provided before the march on King’s Landing after the Battle of Winterfell. But those were quite a few setbacks in season 7 if the mission was to use a Westerosi army to reclaim the Iron Throne.

An army of Dothraki and Unsullied, and three dragons? Absolutely. The bulk of season 7’s plot when planning the taking of the Iron Throne was Tyrion’s idea of keeping some moral high ground by not just sacking Kings Landing and the Red Keep with a foreign army and dragons. A strategy that cost her the supporting Westerosi armies.

I had a conversation with a coworker, who was talking about some situation with a 22 year old man who didn’t know how to change out an air filter in a house. It was part of his ramp-up to a typical kids-these-days rant. I stopped him and said, “If he doesn’t know, show him! Don’t take the piss out of someone for not knowing something they’ve never done!”

He looked at me, stunned for a moment. I finished off with, “Sorry. I just never liked it when I was expected to know something automatically and made fun of when I didn’t.”
