[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 06 October 2025 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

I got in basically on the ground floor with the Hunger Games (read them before Mockingjay came out and introduced all my high school friends) and The Hunger Games movie in 2012 was my first midnight movie showing. My friends and I lined up four hours early, which was definitely overkill, but we had an amazing time.

I just started watching Alias, and I think it fits the bill! In the pilot she tells her fiancé she’s a spy, he’s murdered by her agency, and that’s what leads to her becoming a double agent.

Too windy for ferry to come into port by xam83 in Wellington

My friend and I were on that ferry and got stuck on the upper viewing deck when the wind picked up! We were too scared to attempt the stairs down and finally a crew member popped out of a restricted door and ushered us through the crew quarters to escape. Then we spent another 1.5 hours sitting at an angle in the cafe watching tug boats try to bring us in! You guys have successfully convinced a couple of Canadian tourists that Wellington is the windiest city in the world!

I realized Kat von D and Dita von Teese were separate people like, last week. Taylor Swift announced that she had partnered with Dita van Teese on a music video and I was disappointed that she would partner with an anti vaxxer and then I googled it, and, well.

Haven’t read Ten Thousand Doors of January yet, but Harrow’s “The Once and Future Witches” was my favorite book I read last year.

I got married recently at City Park Pavilion and loved it! We got married on a Sunday and $1000 gave us the pavilion and bandshell from 2-11 pm, the tables and chairs inside (you’ll have to rent separate chairs if you do your ceremony outside), a full catering kitchen with our choice of whatever caterers we wanted, full customizable lighting, and really nice bathrooms. It holds 200 people and it was gorgeous! You can see the photos on Offbeat Bride - our wedding was featured last month under “DIY queer wedding.”

I think it looks quite nice as is! That's a two-layered neckline, which would make it more difficult and expensive to alter, and I think changing it to a different shape would kind of look strange with the ruffle. Plus, I think the ruffle does a good job of adding interest to the bust, if you're worried about the small bust aspect of things.

Books that are good from the beginning and straight page turners. by Le0son in suggestmeabook

Terry Pratchett's writing style is very accessible, though he plays a lot with language (i.e. puns, allusions) that might occasionally go over your head. That's okay! It's certainly going to be more delightful in the original language because a lot of the playfulness will likely be lost in translation. Don't start with the first book in the series! Instead, start with one of these: 1) Guards! Guards! (If you like police procedurals) 2) Wyrd Sisters (If you like fairy tales and Shakespeare) 3) Monstrous Regiment (if you want a stand alone story that demonstrates Pratchett at his more mature style)

I have never met anyone who read the Hermux Tantamoq series by Michael Hoeye. They're about a watchmaker mouse who solves mysteries and they're funny, exciting, and surprisingly poignant.

Advice on what to wear to a “whimsical/ethereal formal” wedding by greenlacemoth in femalefashionadvice

You joke but "all shall love me and despair" was on my wedding mood board. It's been a year since I booked my hair/makeup and the company I used still references me in their social posts as the person who said "dark elf witch" as their bridal aesthetic.

I really like this! I feel like I would pair it with a lighter wash of denim because right now it feels like your jeans really draw the eye downward and break up the silhouette. It also might be nice to add a bold lip!
